Schmidt calls Palin claims 'total fiction'

Schmidt told CNN Palin's claims in her book are 'total fiction'.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – John McCain's former presidential campaign manager Steve Schmidt is the latest McCain adviser to cry foul over accusations Sarah Palin has penned in her yet to be released memoir "Going Rogue."

Excerpts obtained by The Huffington Post characterize Schmidt in an unfavorable light, particularly in reference to the prank phone call Palin received from someone pretending to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy. "Right away, the phones started ringing," Palin writes. "One of the first calls was Schmidt, and the force of his screaming blew my hair back. 'How can anyone be so stupid?! Why would the president of France call a vice presidential candidate a few days out?!'"

In a telephone conversation with CNN's John King, Schmidt said how he is described and portrayed in the book is "fanciful. [And] total fiction."

In the excerpts, Palin also claims Schmidt tried to put her on a strict eating regimen, and in a conversation with Randy Scheunemann, a McCain foreign policy adviser, he had blamed the campaigns problems on Palin's "postpartum depression."

"Schmidt started in again, telling Randy what an awful pick I was - the "postpartum" problems, the wardrobe "scandal," "legal exposure" for Todd on Troopergate, whatever he meant by that," Palin writes according to the published excerpts.

In October, during The Atlantic magazine's First Draft of History Conference, Schmidt predicted to CNN's John King that he would be portrayed as "anti-rogue in the running of the campaign."

Of course Sarah Palin will make tons of money, of course her book will sell more than anybody else's books and it is because of its content: It is the best comedy ever written. People will buy it for its comedic relief and for being an easy reading book. Easier to read these kind of books to entertain ourselves than books on scientific research for example. As somebody else mentioned it before, her book should've been titled "Going Rouge" not "Going Rogue", maybe Sarah just misspelled the title, oh well, even the best spellers make spelling mistakes.

These campaign insiders don't want to get called out for what they really are. Liars and cheats. Schmidt wouldn't be so desperate to play CYA unless he knows what is about to be said about him.

jed November 14th, 2009 4:54 pm ET SAID: Her book sales will leave Obama's ghostwritten (Bill Ayers wrote Dreams of my Father) pack of lies in the dust.

CHRIS SAYS: ROFLMAO!!! Do you have any proof to back that up or like Sarah, you just making things up as you go along? Now knowing Sarah (who's grasp of the English language is well known to be shaky to say the least), we know she had a ghost writer.

The whole rightwing worldview is based on fiction. It is a deluded fantasy world where rightwing ideology wins out over science, facts, and anything having to do with the Enlightenment. It should be no surprise to anyone that the rightwing queen-bee produces a comic-book-like tome of fiction. And all this child-like crying of "foul" by her goofball supporters against the media and everyone else who recognizes their queen for the idiot she just plain pathetic......more deflection by neo-morons that can't see and smell the heap of failure that they helped excrete on the rest of the country.

Loraine at 4:43 PM: "Who takes care of her young children while she goes off gallaganting around the U.S.?"

Who took care of Obama's young children when he went out to campaign?

Surprising that such a grossly sexist and irrelevant question should come from a woman. What is it about Palin that so frightens liberal women?

    Let's see:

    – Dreams from My Father was elegant, heartfelt, and written by its subject.

    – Going Rogue is nasty, inaccurate, and ghostwritten in under four months.

How Jed, or anyone, can believe that this mess of a book will outsell the President's memoir is beyond me. I predict that Going Rogue will end up on the remainder table at fine Wal-Marts everywhere within six months.

    Hey jed....
If the RNC wouldn't be buying up all the books, along with talk radio, it would NOT be a best seller. One of those hack rags bought up a bunch and is selling them for $4.95(Newsmax)....a real good book!!!
By the way, she has a ghost writer, too.
You didn't think she could write(or read), did you?

JED– let me say sales are up because of Newsmax bought the majorityof them.,.that's what the do for all right-wing writers...really now-they are selling it for $4.97 what does that say. In the world of supply and demand...let's see..if demand is high and supply is low them the price would be about the suggested retail of $25.00, but it isn' demand must be low, and the supply high-thus the extremely low price....Get real!

Nothing Sarah Palin did during the 2008 campaign is half as bad as what Obama has done since he took office. You astroturfers can holler LIAR and IDIOT till the cows come home, but REAL AMERICANS know one when we see one.

In 2012, the Obamas better book a U-Haul, and you losers can start looking for jobs. Oh, and Steve Schmidt will never be allowed near another campaign, so he join y'all nutrooters.

Sarah on Oprah monday , then about a few million dems will see a reason not to vote for Obama , without having to admit he has the nation on the brink of disaster in only a year . A woman , a mom , a special needs mom , a military mom , , and if the interview is not a cat fight , a diplomat ... Then as the number of her facebook supporters shoots past a million that day and just keeps rising even schmidt would have to admit , she had done what John McCain tried his whole career to accomplish in a single interview , and without compromising principle ...

Sarah Palin lying? Why is that news. Nothings had changed since she was "running". She was lying then and lying now. That's not surprising.

Schmidt has to worry about making a living, which he does by managing campaigns. I think if anyone is stretching the truth here, it's probably him.

I think it's very possible that McCain's handlers despised and loathed Palin. Why is that some kind of stretch? She was a bad choice.

She's the right-wing Barack Obama, and I don't mean that as a compliment. She has no business in the national arena.

Everybody with intelligence knows the whole book is fiction. She just got some stupid publishing company to give her money for a fantasy trip.

And you know the conservatives will use this as their bible they way they used to carry coulter's trash next to their heart.

The liberals get frantic every time Sarah shows up. I have to ask myself, why? If she is so worthless, so stupid, so uneducated, so....
then why do the liberals, whether Dem or Rep, go nuts? If she is so worthless why would they waste so much print, internet and TV time putting her down.

Me thinks Sarah is the silver cross to liberals and they are scared to death of her. Why else all the fuss?

    jed writes
" I see the deranged Sarah-haters are out in force."

As Time reported, Palin's fans (the short version of the word fanatic) ignored the lies and the facts. Sister Sarah ranted about "In God We Trust" being moved to the edge of our coins:,,, ignoring the truth that it was passed by the GOP Congress and signed by Bush ... the crowd was too busy cheering Sarah to even realize the lie ... not hate – not fear – just disgust.

Yes , how can anyone be so stupid as to pick Palin to begin with, then keep her on the ticket when it was clear the nation would be in jeopardy should she ever actually take power?

The entire party is stupid other than it's ability to inspire fear in a minority far right fringe. There is no reason for the Republican Party to exist, and Palin graces the front prow of the great ship GOP as it crashes into the rocks. Glub, glub and good riddance.

Postpartum depression? Didn't know she was pregnant. I thought it was a given that Trigg is Bristol's first child.

Seriously, why is she still in the news? Does anyone of any intelligence actually listen to her??
