Lou Dobbs weighing White House run in 2012

(CNN) - Can Lou Dobbs make the leap from the anchor desk to the Oval Office?

A radio interviewer on WTOP joked Monday about the "crazy" idea that the former CNN host could mount a White House bid in 2012 - but Dobbs wasn't laughing. "What's so crazy about that?" he responded in the interview broadcast on the Washington, D.C. station.

"Well, I'll tell you this much: it's one of the discussions that we're having," Dobbs said. "For the first time, I'm actually listening to some people about politics."

Dobbs, who amicably parted ways with the network earlier this month, also told former Sen. Fred Thompson that he was definitely weighing a run.

"I'm going to be talking some more with some folks who want me to listen to them in the next few weeks," Dobbs said on the 2008 Republican presidential candidate's radio show. "I just don't even know even what to tell you in terms of where I'm leaning, because right now I'm fortunate to have just a number of wonderful options."

The former anchor's strong views on illegal immigration have made him a lightning rod for criticism from Hispanic groups, and a popular figure in some conservative quarters.

My advice to Dobbs is this it is far , far ,easier to complain about the way the country is run than to manage the asylum.

Dobbs would be great as President. He has more stage presence than Obama, more intelligence than Obama and actually understands basic economics. What a refresher that would be.

Gosh, I suspected he was a bit arrogant, but this is way over the top.

Lou Dobbs for President sounds CRAZY. He was so indepentant that we always wrote him off as a crazy like Glenn Beck. He never had a good word of support for our President. I wouldn't vote for Lou to run the local animal shelter.
Thank goodness that CNN gave him the boot. Time for Lou to retire.

Maybe he can ask David Duke to be his running mate. They have a lot of similar views on race.

Well, if Lou Dobbs run for President, then I'm going to get my 14 year old sister to run for Vice-president! What a joke!

That's amazing. The "Le Pen" of American public life (cf. the French you love to hate) apparently believes that demagogic national chauvinism is a ticket to political success. Bring it on!!
Palin/Dobbs (or Dobbs/Palin) on an indpeendent-type ticket would utterly destroy the GOPhers.

Please do and then he can see just how much he is hated by a lot of people. He won't get the African American vote, he definitely won't get the Latino vote, he won't get the liberal vote, most of the dem vote and he won't get most of the young vote. I would love to see Mr. Dobbs make a fool of himself. It's one thing to spew your hate from behind a desk and another to be accountable to the American people for spewing your hate. Please run Lou, please!

Yeah!! As a 5th generation Texan, of Hispanic descent, I would be thrilled to cast my vote for Lou Dobbs. I'm probably one of a few Hispanics who has the guts to stand up and say ENOUGH with continuing to let all sorts of illegals into this country. I work 7 days a week, 10-14hr days (with no overtime) and I'm taxed to the hilt to pay for them. Majority of those illegals make low wages, meaning they don't pay any taxes, and in fact, they get tax credit $ back!...because they use stolen social secuiry numbers and they get the Earned Child Tax Credit $. Enough! I'm sick of paying for all of them ruining my country. And I challenge true Hispanic AMERICANS to stop playing the victim role (like most blacks do today) and stop putting your hand out for handouts, and put our country first or we will end up becoming a 3rd world country. You laugh now...but it will happen if you don't have the guts to protect America. If you can't see this, you are really Stupid and ignorant.

Lou, please don't believe everything that you hear. Don't be fooled, you donot have what it takes to be a President; better yet, you can for Prez and Sarah can be your VPrez. Go for it!!!!

Great. Yet another fear mongering paranoid conspiracy theorist who thinks he should be running the world.

Can't wait to see how he tries to spin his anti-immigration stance to win the Hispanic vote while not alienating the lunatic fringe on the right. That would be something to watch.

Beyond being angry about illegal immigration, what else does Lou Dobbs stand for and think about? I don't know and almost never watched his show. I would hope if he is planning on running, that he would have many other people running along side him for offices in the House and Senate.

    What a joke?

The only ailment that this country is facing that Lou Dobbs has NOT blamed on illegal immigration is global warming, but if there was a plausible way to do it, he would.
