New group tries to convince Cheney to run in 2012

Washington (CNN) - A new group wants former Vice President Dick Cheney back in the White House.

The organization - "Draft Dick Cheney 2012" - launched on Friday, and unveiled their new Web site. Their aim: To convince the former vice president to seek the Republican presidential nomination in the next race for the White House. But there may be a major roadblock to the group's pitch - Cheney himself.

"The 2012 race for the Republican nomination for President will be about much more then who will be the party's standard bearer against Barack Obama, the race is about the heart and soul of the GOP," said Christopher Barron, one of the organizers of the Draft Cheney movement. "There is only one person in our party with the experience, political courage and unwavering commitment to the values that made our party strong – and that person is Dick Cheney."

The former vice president has been a frequent outspoken critic of the Obama administration's security policy. He recently suggested that Obama was "dithering" over deciding on adding more U.S. troops to Afghanistan. National polls suggest that the former vice president remains popular among conservatives and Republicans.

Does Cheney want to run for the White House? He was quite blunt earlier this month about whether he had any desire make a bid for the presidency in the next election. At an event in Houston for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, who's running for Texas governor, Hutchison was joined by Cheney, who endorsed her bid against fellow Republican incumbent Rick Perry. During the rally, Hutchison yelled out to the crowd "Cheney 2012!" and some one in the audience quickly responded "We need you, Dick!"

Cheney's response: "Not a chance."

Barron says the group hopes to follow up Friday’s Web launch with a more formal structure, which will include building a database and reaching out through social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Barron adds that there is no budget set yet, and that the effort is grassroots at this point. He says the group plans on targeting tea party events and plans on building grassroots chapters in key early presidential caucus and primary states including Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Hurray! Another loonie tune to fracture what's left of the GOP. The only problem would be that he couldn't travel internationally. He likely be locked up for his crimes against humanity.

As a lifelong Republican it seems to me that Dick Cheney would be the final kiss of death!!!

If you believe the national polls of swing voters ( they are the ones who decide ALL national elections) Cheneys negatives are in the stratosphere and approx. 76% of them would not vote for a ticket he was on.

I continue to be amazed at how bent on self destruction my party seems to be. Maybe we should run a ticket of Cheney/Palin and lose all 50 states and get it over with????

Well perhaps Cheney and Bush should have "dithered" a little more over invading Iraq and saved a bunch of lives. What an idiot.

Oh, please put Dr. Death up. By 1012 you can wheel him out like Christopher Pike from the "Star Trek" episode, in a mobile iron lung. The man used the Iraq war to profit his business, outed a CIA agent, lied about it to the FBI, may be the most corrupt politician who ever 'served' in the executive branch. Bush II didn't have the brains to pillage the way Uncle Dick did. The Republican Party's death wish would be capped by the nomination of The Dark One.

Cheney in 2012? That's about as big a joke as Palin for the White House. No way we can return to the culture of arrogance, greed, insensitivity and bowing to the altar of wealth and corporate power that marked the Bush-Cheney years. The only good thing I can think of Cheney is that he supports same-sex marriage. Otherwise, he's a relic of a past we'd like to forget.

This is great. I know that when I find that I've made a stupid mistake the problem is usually that It wasn't stupid enough. Where do I sign up to send all of my money to these people to ensure that these crooks can preach their hogwash from the highest mountain?

Dick Cheney orchestrated 9/11 as his personal "Pearl Harbor" thus he is a genocidal murderer of 3,000 of our own citizens.

In addition, Cheney and Bush orchestrated 9/11 as a means to create a pretext for invading and occupying Iraq for the sole purpose of control, power and money which means both Bush and Cheney are war criminals, having caused the deaths of over 3,000 of U.S. military women and men and over 1,000,000 Iraqi's, most of them civilians, including women and children.

Anyone wanting Cheney to run for president is mentally disturbed and has a disconnect from their heart.

Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckaby, and Mitt Romney. A man everyone who isn't a Republican hates, a woman widely considered about a sharp as a bowling ball, a religious nut, and a competent statesman who made the mistake of being born Mormon. Does Obama even need to run? Looks like he's already got 2012 in the bag.

"only one person in our party with the experience, political courage and unwavering commitment to the values that made our party strong..."
He is also the only one who will never take responsibility for decisions and requires someone to rubber stamp his decisions (a puppet if you will). A big reason why he will never run for an office where he is held solely responsible and the buck would stop at his desk and not someone above him...
