Obama: No interest in occupying Afghanistan

WEST POINT, New York (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Tuesday the United States has no interest in occupying Afghanistan.

Announcing the deployment of 30,000 more U.S. troops to the country, Obama said in a message to Afghanistan: "We have no interest in occupying your country."

"We will support efforts by the Afghan government to open the door to those Taliban who abandon violence and respect the human rights of their fellow citizens," Obama said. "And we will seek a partnership with Afghanistan grounded in mutual respect - to isolate those who destroy; to strengthen those who build; to hasten the day when our troops will leave; and to forge a lasting friendship in which America is your partner, and never your patron."

NOT GOOD ENOUGH. When we voted this brilliant man into office, we voted on CHANGE & HOPE> This is NOT that. I am deeply disappointed in this decision our wonderful President has made. I truly hope this doesn't turn into a Vietnam. If need be, we will take to the streets as we did then when Johnson kept sending more troops to fight an endless/unwinnable war.

I wish Bush had seen fit to invest our time, treasure and blood in Afghanistan ... captured BinForgotten ... instead of putting this country on the back burner and invading Iraq.

He didn't. No matter if it was McCain or Obama – the problem of Afghanistan was passed on as a huge challenge ...

This means we have no interest in continuing to pay Karzai and his drug lord brother as Bush did. Thank you President Obama.

I completely support Obama's decision to provide more support for our country's effort in Afghanistan. Make no mistake about that.

But didn't he also say the same thing about owning General Motors?

And isn't he saying that the federal government has no intention of taking over the health insurance industry with a Public Option?

I'm just saying. Sometimes this stuff just plays out...
