Advocacy group drops its support for Lou Dobbs

A group that opposes illegal immigration announced Thursday that it no longer supports former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs.

(CNN) – A political organization that opposes illegal immigration announced Thursday that it will no longer support commentator and former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs.

After being a vocal critic of proposals for federal amnesty for illegal immigrants, Dobbs appeared to soften his stance late last month in an interview with Telemundo, a Spanish-language television network.

Dobbs told Telemundo he is one of the Latino community's "greatest friends."

"What isn't working is a penalty to those who are in this country illegally for whom we can both be building a bridge to the future in which there is legalization and at the same time constructing an environment in which everyone is clear and unequivocal about the need for border security and a regulated flow of immigration," Dobbs also said in the interview.

At the time, Dobbs maintained that his position on immigration has not changed despite what appears to be a more moderate stance.

But the political action committee that has supported Dobbs disagreed, announcing on its Web site Thursday that it now opposes him.

"Americans for Legal Immigration PAC is withdrawing support for Lou Dobbs after years, including the suspension of websites calling on Dobbs to run for President due to the perceived change in Mr. Dobbs's stances on immigration issues," the organization wrote.

"His recent comments on Telemundo and his national radio show supporting some kind of path to citizenship for illegal immigrants is inconsistent with positions of ALIPAC and the views of most American citizens," William Gheen, a representative of AILPAC also said in the written statement.

In a separate telephone interview with CNN, Gheen said that the group continues to respect Dobbs for helping to highlight the issue of illegal immigration.

But, Gheen added that Dobbs' recent remarks have "just blown everyone's minds" and that the group found itself at an "unexpected impasse" with Dobbs at this point.

"We feel like: Who are you and what have you done with Lou Dobbs?" Gheen explained.

Dobbs, who parted with CNN in mid-November, has since suggested that he might run for president or challenge New Jersey Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez in 2012.

Lou Dobbs is a flip-flopping loser. No way I would even consider voting for this guy if he ran.

Lou – don't waste your money. It's time to go behind the scenes...

Lou Dobbs and Sara Palin both speak in sentences so long and so juggled, it's like going round and round and up and down and at the end you don't know what they said! I'm SO sorry, Lou!! I'm crying in my beer! Oh well, "STUFF" happens!! Maybe when you come back in the next life, you'll have a better chance. By then, it will be the 121st Century, and the "cave man" will just be beginning his long evolution towards enlightenment!! Now let me see, would you be a bongo, a baboon, or, . . . . . . . . . . . .!!!!!!!????? For heaven's sake, don't blow any one's minds when you come back in your next life!!!!!

  4. Party Purity will never bring Political Power!

Dobbs dispenses drivel for years and now changes?

I quit watching him about two years ago, that was about the time he could be counted on for non-ending rants dunning Hispanics and no I am not Hispanic I am white.

Maybe if he had had this revelation a while back his show would not have become so predictably racist and boring.

Too late now though, you took a long time to soil your bed now you have to lie in it!

Didn't you realize? Hatemongers don't really have loyalties. They have hate.

You are either with them or against them – and they don't really care why you choose either one.

I'm glad to see that's he has made successfully made the transition to politician. He spent years decrying the federal government's lack of enforcement of immigration laws. Now that he seems to need the hispanic vote, he's the best friend of illegals. He'll fit right in with the rest of the hypocrites that we have to endure.

The next sound you hear will be a bunch of right wing doors closing in the face of Lou Dobbs. Is he stupid or what? Did he think he could actually step out of the Boss Limbaugh thought line. These Republicans are not open to ANY deviation from their goose step political philosophy.

It's a sad day in America when a man of Dobbs' stature can't pass this hate group's litmus test ... shucks, and he's tried so hard for so long too! Sorry Lou, it apparently takes a REAL American to endure with this fine group!

Surprise that he would change his tune now that he thinks of entering politics? He should be cast off by anyone and everyone, for he's no better than any other lying and dishonest politician out there. And you folks thought that Dobbs would be the next best thing to sliced bread. lol.

Dobbs just torpedoed his presidential ambitions. Rush, Sarah, and Hannity will disown him and support a "good" conservative.

The ONLY reason I ever had any semblance of respect for the great – in his own mind – arrogant, Lou Dobbs, was because of his rational, thoughtful and consistent hard stance against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and AMNESTY for these 20,000,000+ invaders of our country... now there is NO REASON to even consider his overblown verbiage...

I happen to like Lou dobbs. If Obama does not get a handle on straightening out this mess called the U.S. I would seriously consider voting for him. He is one of the few republicans I know that don't seem totally bought out by big greedy corporations which I assure you are more a threat to our liberty and advancement as a people than any government progam.

When Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are stupid enough to push for amnesty for 20+ million illegals again at the beginning of next year-–this will seal the deal for the Democrats getting clobbered in the 2010 elections.

Even the majority of moderate Dems do NOT want any form of rewards/accommodations/amnesty for illegals.

The majority of polls throughout the country are indicating--close to 70% want nothing but deportation for the illegals-–and our borders closed and secured!!!

We cannot take in the world. There are millons of people throughout the world who have applied, waited in line-–and are trying to come into our country through the proper, legal process. They should NOT be kicked to the back of the line in order to reward/accommodate illegals--AKA criminals---who thumbed their noses at our immigrtion laws and illegally forced their way into our country!!!
