Washington (CNN) - Sen. Bob Corker said Thursday that his daughter is fine but "really sore" after being pulled from her car and thrown to the ground in a carjacking in the nation's capital Wednesday night.
The Tennessee Republican said his 22-year-old daughter, Julia, stopped the family's 2005 Chevy Tahoe not far from their apartment - just nine blocks from the U.S. Capitol building - to help someone she thought needed directions.
"A gentleman appeared, opened the door, grabbed her by the neck," the senator said. "She kicked to try to get away ... and he threw her on the pavement and drove away."
Corker credited the vehicle's OnStar system with helping to locate it, and the suspects were taken into custody a short time later in a parking lot in Seat Pleasant, Maryland.
"It's pretty incredible how quickly they were able to apprehend" the suspects, the senator said. The two people in the car were taken into custody by police in Seat Pleasant after OnStar determined their exact location and showed that the vehicle was not moving, Corker explained.
The Seat Pleasant authorities were notified by OnStar that the stolen car was in their jurisdiction, and were provided the description and tag number of the vehicle, Seat Pleasant Police Sgt. Leroy Patterson told CNN.
"The officers just searched and they saw a vehicle matching that description," Patterson said, adding that the two suspects were taken to a Maryland station to be interviewed by Metropolitan Police detectives. The Metropolitan department "will handle the actual charges, because the incident happened in Washington, D.C.," Patterson explained.
The senator praised the work of the Metropolitan Police the U.S. Capitol Police, the FBI and the Seat Pleasant Police.
He also admitted that he often thought about canceling the OnStar service subscription.
"I was telling the lady who handles that for me in Chattanooga, each month I was saying, 'I don't want to pay this, I don't want to pay this,'" Corker said, adding that it was a nominal fee.
But he kept the service, "thinking that maybe OnStar would be of some help" someday, Corker said.
"Certainly it paid off tremendously last night," he said.

And if you or I had been carjacked in Washington, D.C. would the capitol police and FBI have gotten involved?
My guess is that the cops would have taken a report and then told me or you that there was nothing much to be done about it. And that would be that.
a 22 year old woman driving alone at night. 9pm and someone she does not know knocks on her window and she opens it?
Does she not know how dangerous the nations capital is?
The height of stupidity.
What college did they send her to?
Better check where Rom Emanual was. Sounds like the ole Chi-Town hustle.
I wonder if she has healthcare insurance.
DC is the bluest area of the United States, this type of stuff is common when 97% of the population is liberal Democrat.
Since she is the daughter of a Republican, the comments about Palin's, Bush's and other republican's families leave no doubt that a majority of Democrats in this country are happy about this, only upset that she wan't hurt or harmed.
You should think of the type of people you align yourself with when you vote Democrat.
They will let them out of jail and the crime cycle will continue.
And maybe the same senator who slammed the US auto industry should thank On-Star for help in retriving his daughters car!
I'm glad she is ok, but seriously, if you don't have enough sense to not roll your window down for a stranger at night, while stopped at a light, (let alone during the day) then honestly, what do you expect. Unfortunately, this isn't they fifties anymore. You cannot trust everyone. She lives in D.C., she should know better than that. DC as the second highest murder rate in the nation. She is lucky she wasn't killed.
A horrible experience but very glad she was not seriously injured and that they caught the perpetrators. My thoughts and best wishes to the Corker family.
My question is why was their special treatment for his daughter? I don't know of another case where the FBI gets involved with a local matter. Yet again here is an instance where Congress is above the people they serve.
I'm gald his daughter is okay, but really this is not national news.
This lady was lucky. It does prove that statistic wise she would be safer in Afghanistan or Iraq than she is in Washington D,C. Thank Liberalism for that.It will get worse when the checks quit coming.
I suppose he's going to blame Obama for not keeping the nation's capital safe.
When did the FBI start investigating car jackings?
daughter carjacked, son carjacked....what is this...is this news....when nation is facing economy problems....jobs are shipped...not a single shirt made in USA....china, and other nations.....do not buy the shirts that say made in india, china, phillipines...only buy that are made in USA>>>>>good luck.......
First of all why would anyone roll a window down when a stranger knocks on it. Second, that's why it's good for citizens be armed for their protection.
Jeez loiuse!! What an idiot!! Why would any sane person, with a normal IQ roll down their window for anybody on foot? Another driver, maybe. But some idiot, in D.C.?? She was asking for trouble.
Yikes! That's a scare.
At least she's okay, that's the most important news. 😀
Certain crimes should carry the death sentence and this is one. When it is determine by the victim and any other witnesses that this crime was committed by the person, then they should forfiet their life in 3 days.
Why in the world would she roll down the window to just anyone???
Just wait, extreme media will blame ACORN, socialism, and the thought of repealing tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. It will be good to hear from these anti Americans at Fox.
We need to ban cars now so the car-jackings will stop.
And Washington DC does not want the law abiding citizens to have the right to protect themselves.
If she'd had a gun, she could have protected herself. D.C. has some of the most strict gun control laws and highest crime rates. Coincidence? Nope. It's so bad, several years ago their NBA team stopped using the "Bullets" name because it reflected on the horrible crime rates. Figure it out! Gun control only prevents law abiding citizens from protecting themselves. Criminals, by definition, don't follow the law and won't care if carrying/concealing a gun is illegal.
of course the senator's daughter works in washington, god forbid she made her own way in this world.
Seriously? She rolled down the window? Are you kidding me?
