Hadassah Lieberman under attack over industry ties

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption=" Hadassah Lieberman is under attack over industry ties."] Washington (CNN) - Sen. Joe Lieberman – whose opposition to a public insurance option has drawn outrage from liberal groups for months – is used to finding himself in progressive crosshairs.

Now it's his wife's turn.

Activists are setting their sights on Hadassah Lieberman, launching a celebrity-studded petition drive to convince the nation's largest breast cancer non-profit to end the Connecticut senator's wife role as a spokeswoman.

The move to pressure the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation came the same day Lieberman's husband angered Democrats by announcing that he would not support an expansion of Medicare to cover individuals under the age of 55. Organizers did not point to that decision, instead citing Hadassah Lieberman's own ties to the health care industry.

Lieberman has worked as a consultant for companies including Pfizer and ALCO.

"We are asking Ellen DeGeneres, Christie Brinkley and other high-profile celebrities who are associated with Komen to demand that no more money raised for cancer treatment be given to Hadassah Lieberman or any other ex-Pharma/Insurance strategists," said Jane Hamsher, founder of the Firedoglake blog.

(Updated after the jump with statement from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation)

CNN has received the following statement from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation:

Hadassah Lieberman is an important and valued Global Ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. As a Global Ambassador, Ms. Lieberman is focused on helping us reach out and educate women outside our borders about breast cancer, sharing our knowledge and experience in a culturally sensitive way that is making a real impact on the lives of women across the globe. We have every intention of continuing our relationship with Ms. Lieberman in our mutual pursuit of a world without breast cancer.

Setting up vigilant groups, wanted posters (Chamber of Commerce), etc. shows where this country is going to It is sad that the Liberals have to use threats and violence to push their point through. . Believe me folks when I say a Civil War is in the brewing. Regular Americans will not put up with this. Why does the Liberals have to use Hollywood celebrities to push their point across. They are just a bunch of idiots! Wake up America! Before it is too late. END OF TIMES IS COMING!

What else could be expected from the radical liberals??? Just another example of the liberal desire to ruin other people and unable to provide common sense ideas of their own.

Joe Lieberman should be stripped of his Homeland Security Committee chairmanship immediately after he votes against health reform. Lieberman is a pawn of the insurance lobby. Why should Democrats reward a non-Democrat for voting against Pres. Obama?

Good God, is this old woman wearing a FUR coat? Probably. Jose and his charming bride just don't get it. The End Is Near. At the right moment, down the road a little, the Dems will UNCAUCUS him, set him free to vote with the Right Wingnuts, where he belongs. Chicken hawks coming home to roost – irony to the tenth degree!

Wow I guess if you can’t bribe someone with a few million dollars in earmarks, then just threaten their families. I just love how our government has evolved over the past 200 years.

All those celebs signing that petition all seem to be experts on our economy and health issues, I can’t understand why Lieberman won’t listen to them.

So no one that knows anything about Insurance or Health Care should be involved ? Thats real smat ladies.

These are not activists, just idiots who contribute nothing but entertainment to our society. They are left feeling empty and unfulfilled because their lifes work is truly meaningless and they feel compelled to fill that void by opening their mouths about something they know little or nothing about.

How dare Lieberman vote the way his constituents would like him to?

Liberals will attack anyone that expresses an opinion or votes differently that the trifecta of tax and spend, Pelosi, Reed and Obama, would want them to. This vitriolic attack on a "non-combatant" is yet another example.

Going after someone’s wife? Really? Is that where the Democrats are right now? Talk about sleazy. "By any means necessary..." right, Democrats?

If you all but declare war on the people who you built your reputation on, you deserve all you get! Again, why are we surprised about Lieberman, he supported McCain. It takes two to work together and one to work against. Keep working against everything Lieberman! When your day comes, all I can say is "No Sympathy"!

Joe Lieberman is on-the-take from the health insurance industry and it is very arrogant of him to oppose Medicare at age 55 and with the the government option. What a scam... what a scam.

It is truely sickening to find out that Sen. LIEberman's wife is working on behalf of the insurance companies. Sen. LIEberman ought to recuse himself from all decision making in as far as the health care bills are concerned due to conflict of interest. This is just disgusting!
