Senate Democrat fuming at Lieberman

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Senate Democrat fuming at Lieberman."]
Washington (CNN) - Senate Democrats struggled to find a way forward on health care legislation Monday in the wake of Sen. Joe Lieberman's announcement that he will oppose a leading compromise proposal Democrats saw as their best way to get the 60 votes needed to pass a bill.

Privately fuming at the Connecticut senator, Democrats wrestled with whether to meet his demand to remove an expansion of Medicare from the bill - a move that would anger liberal Democrats who believe they've already made concessions on a government insurance option.

Democrats "may have to do what Mr. Lieberman wants," liberal Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa said to CNN.

Democratic leaders, who had hoped to file procedural motions this week to end debate and begin voting on the bill, called a special caucus meeting for 5:30 pm Monday to assess their bleak situation.

"It's hit a rough spot," acknowledged a Democratic leadership aide who said there is a "decent level of concern" about the fate of the compromise bill.

Asked if Senate leaders are scrambling to find a "Plan C" - something that could attract Lieberman without losing liberals - the aide said they are "working on it."

Would it be possible to screw Lieberman and his GOP/insurance pupiteers by going straight to the hospitals and offering their services with a hospital plan in which the hospital provides services for a monthly fee that could be subsidized by Uncle Sam?

What the Senator from AETNA, Joe Leiberman, is doing should be illegal. He defintely does not represent the People of Conneticut, just the insurance corporation giants from Conneticut. The man has no moral and ethical backbone.. He is a disgrace!!!!!!!!!

Joe, regardless of what the democrats say, most americans support you and your views. Thgere will be many who comment here who believe you are wrong. You only need to take a look at the polls to know that Joe is right. Keep up the good work Joe, we are behind you

Joe Lieberman reminds of the little girl on the playground that wants to be begged and pleaded with to join the game. Let him be....Joe's a nit-wit.

It has to be very close to ethical violations that say no Joe is so entrenced in the health insurance industry. His wife is a way too involved in the outcome to except this to go the right way. Pretty sad that say no Joe has this much power, once again money rules politics and decisions. Joe is a good plant by the republicans, and proving his effectiveness by pretending to be an Independent. I could never have respect for him since he backed McCain and Palin and not the proff is in the pudding, he is an in the closet Republicadoom !

After the 2008 election, the Democratic leadership allowed Lieberman to keep his chairmanships and seniority in spite of campaigning for McCain. If he continues to consistently boycott Democratic initiatives, he should deal with the consequences and lose those privileges.

Screw Lieberman. Pass it with the "nookular" option just like the neoclowns did with W's tax cuts. Have a nice day!

I am sick of having Joe Lieberman make decisions that affect the country. I can't imagine why Connecticut sends this guy back to the Senate. Guy has no integrity. He say that he caucuses with the Democrats, but every big vote, he goes against them. The Dems are punks. Should throw this guy off of the Homeland Security Cmte chair. I would rather lose than have this guy in any control. Can't stand this guy. Full of crap. When they meet any of his demands, he changes to something else. Joe The Grimey.

The democrats simply do not understand how this bill will hurt this great nation. Fortunately, we have senators like Joe who understand and is someone who is willing to do something to stop this train wreck. Everyone needs to look at the polls and then read the bill to understand the dangers of this bill. We want reform but DO NOT WANT THIS MONSTER BILL

Lieberman is so vile, he would stall heatcare reform at the expense of peoples lives for his ego.

    He sickens me.

Death for profit legislation is the "American" way now... So sad that our once magnificent country has turned into a corporate pig's feeding trough.

LIEberman should be kicked out of the democratic caucus. he is no longer a democrat, he's just a republican their ranks, plain and simple. Just get rid of him and take all of chairmanships as well. Enough of Mr. LIEberman already.

Lieberman is the most corrupt senator of modern times. He takes millions from the health care industry and denies basic coverage to average Americans. His pursuit of useless war in Iraq cost the lives of thousands of Amercian soldiers and innocent Iraquis. He is truly the prime example of the worst in humanity.

What's up with the voters of Connecticut? To date they have elected Sen. Chris Dodd, the man who was in charge of banking reform over the years and the man who got a loan from AIG before he was left in charge of helping design the Wall Street bailout – so unwise. Then the voters supported Joseph Lieberman, whose wife worked for pharmaceutical
companies as a private consultant. OF course Lieberman is going to stall the health care reform legislation. He sees the legislation through his wife's glasses. He needs to go. When was the last time he did a real mitzvah for his constituents???

Lieberman is PIG! He stands for nothing, and believes in nothing, but self-interest. He's a traitor to both parties, and should be shunned by both. The sooner this LOSER is tossed out of Congress by his constituency the better! One wonders just how much his "loyalty" has cost the insurance companies. Bloody snake!

This scumbag Lieberman should have been stripped of his seniority when he bolted the party and supported the Republican ass bucket from Arizona for Pres.
God willing, the good people of Connecticut will vote this weasel out of office and elect a true representative.
How much more obvious can it be that this boring little man is in the pockets of the insurance industry? After all, Hartford is the insurance capital.

How did this guy become THE power in the Senate? What a joke...he wasn't elected to the White House, so now he's going to screw the American people while he laughs all the way to his lobbyists' bank.

A politician who doesn't just abide by party lines, he looks at a situation and decides what is best for the country, wow, he and Lindsay Graham are two of way too few.

Standing up to Obambi's lies, YES WE CAN.
