McConnell: Health care bill a 'legislative train wreck'

Washington (CNN) - Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, said the latest version of the Senate health care bill "is a legislative train wreck of historic proportions."

"If they were proud of this bill they wouldn't be doing it this way," McConnell said, referring to the reform bill fashioned in the Senate, where Democrats hold the majority. "They wouldn't be jamming it through in the middle of the night on the last weekend before Christmas."

Democratic senators on Saturday reached their goal of rounding up 60 votes supporting the health care legislation after U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, who had been the lone Democratic holdout, reached an agreement that eased his concerns about abortion.

"Change is never easy, but change is what's necessary in America today. That's why I intend to vote for cloture and for health care reform," Nelson told reporters. Cloture means the Democrats needed the 60 votes to end debate on the health bill and send it to the Senate floor for a vote.

McConnell said the legislation "will have a profound impact on our nation. This is not renaming a post office. Make no mistake, this bill will reshape our nation and our lives."

The GOP will stand in the way of every bill that will help the people of our country. They only thing they are interested in is profits for the big corporations and staying in power as long as possible to perpetuate those interests. This is the reason the Dems need to "ram it through". If the GOP had the interest of ALL Americans in mind, they would have HELPED not hindered the passage of this bill. They were all united when Bush rammed the Iraqi war down our throat based on LIES. How much in dollars and blood have we paid for that corrupt administration?

Was the Republican plan better? You know, the plan that they put forth and fought for to reform health care before the Dems got in charge? No wait! They didn't! Why? Because the Republicans are OWNED by the Big Insurance companies that are making huge $$$ right now under the insure-em but drop-em if they get sick system.

Well, if anyone knows legislative train wrecks, it'd be the repubublican party – they're actually responsible for proposing and passing a number of them. The medicare drug boondoggle – unfunded, all piled directly to our debt – all $1.2 trillion of it. If that's not a train wreck – a very costly one – I don't know what is.

What else is new? McConnell and all the GOP Obstructionist would rather have 45,000 Americans die annually than give them healthcare!

And the Republicans call themselves "pro-life"! Hypocrites.

Mitch McConnell, like so many of the Party of No, has nothing of value to say here. Just hollow statements. They have nothing to offer our nation.
