Obama delays Hawaii vacation over Senate vote

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Obama was already on his Hawaii vacation at this time last year."](CNN) - He was already relaxing on the beaches of Hawaii last year at this time, but President Obama said Tuesday his annual vacation to the Aloha State won't begin this year until the Senate passes the health care bill.

"I will not leave until my friends in the Senate have completed their work," Obama said Tuesday. "My attitude is that if they're making these sacrifices to provide health care to all Americans then the least I can do is be around to provide them any encouragement and last-minute help where necessary. That's the deal."

A final vote on the Senate health care bill is currently scheduled for 7 pm ET on Christmas Eve, though it could come earlier in the day if Republicans yield some of their debate time.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday the president's actual vacation plans won't be determined until the vote has taken place.

Oh poor baby, maybe he should just stay put for a change, he travels way too much and his family has been to Paris etc all on the US TAXPAYER... TIME TO SAVE FUEL Mr. President. Whoops that pertains to everyone else but him, and every member of congress and don't forget Al Gore...

I am so happy the Republicans are being so called obstructionist. They are not obstructing enough. As for vacations, I think the president and the congress all need to go on a little vacation from DC. They need to stay away so that they quit underminding the people.

Bush the president anymore we are under Obama's closk so when someone express an opinion about president Obama is judging or commenting on his presidency and not comparing to other presidencies.

On anoher topic presindet obama lead a group of developed couires who developed a docu in rk excluding the third world countries of the preparation of the treaty and looking at them down. That is the new diplomacy of Obama same imperialist practices and imposiig his power

Tony in Maine, ya Obama isn't a "party frat boy", did you snort, snort, puff, puff not read his book?

He makes it like there is sacrifice going on here, the only sacrifice this gutless, lying fraud of a president is doing is sacrificing our children's and grandchildrens future.

Gotta hop in my plane and goes somewhere, somewheres warm.

Maybe he can bash the Country while in Hawaii, oops, he actually KNOWS it is the 57th state.

One and done, 2010 is going to be fun sheep.

The President and his family deserve a vacation just like any other family in America. Bush took vacations for his whole 8 yrs in office for all the well he did to this country. Some american need to give the Prez a break he is doing the best he can since being in office for only one year. ( give the man a break)

I'm a supporter of Obama, but don't necessarily agree with him on everything..I have to say the pic in the caption displays an exceptionally poor golf stance/ swing. Stick to basketball mate 🙂

I'd have to guess that Obama's trips this year for the business and betterment of these United States far outnumbers the ones 'W" took in his entire 8 years in office. Call them vacations if you like for Obama's first year...I'd call them repairing the damage done by Bush and Cheney.

I share most of the comments in here about B-llless leader who fail at everything but reading from his teleprompter. After voting for change, and not receiving so far, he should go away for longer than a week.
I am so embarrassed that I even voted for this guy.

The President staying and setting the right example for everyone is one of many of the small and big things he gets right. Finally we have somone in office that is a leader and leads by example.

When did we become such a nasty nation of citizens always trying to blame someone for something we don't like? "We the people" got ourselves into this mess and we will stay here longer if we direct all of our energy toward anger instead of focusing on what is actually getting better. It took more than a year to get where we are so we shouldn't think it will turn around immediately. Whether you agree with our President or not, we should not doubt he works extremely hard 24/7 to pull us out of this mess. If he had done nothing after taking office where would we be today?

Wow I have a message for all you Obabaphobes out there:

I am proud of my President. I am proud of the job he is doing, the example he is setting. I know there are some of my fellow citizens out there looking for him to do the wrong thing and to them I say that is the one area where your president excelled and even though you might not like Obama keep one important thing in mind: At least Obama won the election. Just think how pi**ed-off you would be if McCain had won and then the Supreme court stepped in and gave it to Obama- oh yeah that would really suck wouldn't it?

Time for a little fact checking by those too lazy to lift a finger to research before they spout some garbage about Obama. Gosh this gets old having to put these folks in their place.

The riddle goes like this: which President spent 42% of the 1st 8 months of his presidency in vacation mode?

    Anyone need any hints?

Big deal. Him staying in Washington won't impact the Senate vote, nor will it hurry the merging of the Senate and House bills together. He might as well get out of town.

    "Right" wing zealots:
Other than to surrender to YOUR version of Amerika, is there any way for us to disagree without being disagreeable? To maybe even find common ground and BUILD SOMETHING together, you know our Nation???
The "Party of NO" is getting really tired. I know you think you love America, but how do you do that without consideration and compassion for Americans, ALL Americans, not just your party members/ditto heads/political sycophants? Or don't they count for you?

I am repulsed and appaled by the comments left on this blog. We have a right to our opinions – we live in a democracy. But why does the right wing have to spew this overwhelming vitroilc hate at every move President Obama makes. This extreme partisanism makes me fear for the country that I love and was willing to give my life for.

Good God you Conserva-Can'ts are a miserable bunch of complainers, whiners, yappers and heel-biters! This president has done more in his first year in office to try to restore this country to the greatness we deserve than Bush did in 8 years!!! In fact, ALL Bush did was get us involved in TWO wars neither of which he cared about paying for and bring our country to it's knees financially and every other way! We now have a president who is working his tail off to try to turn this mess around and all you people do is yap, yap, yap, nip, nip, nip, whine, whine, whine, complain, complain, complain!

All you angry bloggers sound really pathetic. Bottom line is this: AARP, AMA, and the CBO have all vouched for the Bill. It is a good bill. Period. It's completely understandable why republicans don't like it though. They aren't responsible for it. It's sad to see grown men and women acting like this.

Can he and congress go on an extended vacation and maybe the American people can prosper. Everything this President does is about redistribution and penalizing those who are willing to work and succeed.

Go on vacation Obummie. You haven't done anything but trot around the globe and spend money while you are here. The health care bill if it does go to conference, will not pass and even if it does will get thrown out in court.
