Obama delays Hawaii vacation over Senate vote

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Obama was already on his Hawaii vacation at this time last year."](CNN) - He was already relaxing on the beaches of Hawaii last year at this time, but President Obama said Tuesday his annual vacation to the Aloha State won't begin this year until the Senate passes the health care bill.

"I will not leave until my friends in the Senate have completed their work," Obama said Tuesday. "My attitude is that if they're making these sacrifices to provide health care to all Americans then the least I can do is be around to provide them any encouragement and last-minute help where necessary. That's the deal."

A final vote on the Senate health care bill is currently scheduled for 7 pm ET on Christmas Eve, though it could come earlier in the day if Republicans yield some of their debate time.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday the president's actual vacation plans won't be determined until the vote has taken place.

If you bloggers don't pay taxes, you shouldn't have a say or a vote on what goes on in this country. To the hard working tax payers, Merry Christmas.

Remember when Christmas time was a time for family, friends, relaxation and recreation? Companies use to offer the week proceeding or after off. Probably will be working Christmas day next year. Fits in with all the other losses we are seeing I guess. Very sad!

wow, how wonderful of obama to delay his vacation so he can babysit the incompetent harry reid.

president obama: go to the House of Representatives website, select the representative from Wisconsin's 1st District, and see the man who will dethrone your socialist regime.

then go have a pina colada with bill ayers and jeremiah wright, do an interview about how stylish and faboluous your wife is, and give another speech that your most loyal supporters are already getting bored listening to.

democrats: you really should have picked hillary.

The Republicans only want it their way. What a bunch of cry babies and all republicans who vote for them. They couldn't find a solution and fix it for eight years of Bush and Chaney but with a new President, blame it all on the new administraton. Their memory is as short as their noses!!

@ Baffled at the Hate....Sounds like you make enough money to pay for your health care. So pay for it. America was founded on hard workers like you and your wife. It was not founded on people waiting for Obummie bucks or Obummiecare.

Randolph Carter, I'm no expert but...If you're "unemployed by Obama", perhaps you should consider going back to school, relocating or switching careers instead of lounging around all day waiting for your unemployment check to come and complaining to a bunch of strangers on the interwebz. After all, we should all take personal responsibility, right? Have a nice day!

So what should you do if you are "unemployed by Bush " and all your benefits have run out? No more waiting around for that unemployment check that stopped at least a year ago. Still no job or if you have a job it is at a reduced pay. What should you be doing now that you can no longer pay COBRA and now have no health care. What do you do when you 're denied food stamps and can't feed your family? You know food stamps is a program for shiftless, lazy people after all. Using your tax dollars....Where will you live now that your house has been foreclosed on? Why would you assume that people might just be lounging around, never been laid off or without enough funds to pay your bills right? , Merry Christmas.

  8. But Americans do not want this bill........

by 60-30, Americans say NO to why is it being pushed?

Do Americans not know what they want or what is good for them? Do we need some ivory tower bureaucrats to tell us what we need? Do they actually think they are smarter than we are? If so, they will all be voted out.

The President and the Democratic Congress better be careful what they wish for as the saying goes. The polls keep showing the majority of Americans don't support their healthcare bill especially when the tax increases and Medicare cuts start rolling in 3 years before any of the supposed benefits kick in. Maybe when they get booted out of office, the can work as magicians as they're pretty good at making OUR money disappear.

I imagine a lot of folks have postponed or cancelled their vacation because they no longer can afford to go. But our president is a trooper. He'll hold up his vacation for a couple of days. 'Course he doesn't have to worry about travel commitments, he has the whole fleet at his command. Maybe he could line up all the aircraft carriers end to end and just drive to Hawaii. Nothing's too good or too Showy for our guy. Obamie, you're the best.

I wish everyone "born" or deserved to be vacationed in Hawaii like OB?

I'm glad to see all the support given to our President by the people who just learned to vote. We understand it will take a while before you fully comprehend whats going on, Just make sure you use the fully paid abortion benefits package you'll be receiving as you wouldn't want your children to suffer for their parents mistakes.

Many of you who posted comments have not even seen the health care bill or read it . So how can you SICK Tea Baggers comment on something you never read. After looking at those ridiculous Town hall meeting , it looks like a lot of them can use some of this health care .What is up with all the hate ? Now if you really want to get mad , take your anger out on the Bush administration. President Obama is only cleaning up with the former administration screwed up . Ask Bush why did he give companies tax breaks for shipping jobs overseas. Answer that one Tea Baggers

    To GOP 2012....
Were you asleep when GW was president? He spent more time golfing, spent more time at Camp David, and the so called ranch at Crawford. He took more time off than any other president. He done NOTHING for the American people except take down the country financially. President Obama has a huge problem to fix left over from GW.

All the rightwads should just shut up. In case you never developed the brains to figure it out, the President has a very difficult job. The fact that he is forced to use AF1 and be surrounded by Secret Service is not of his choosing, but it goes with the job. The fact that he wants to take a little vacation at Christmas is no more or no less than most of you do, so give the man a break, he works far harder than you do and carries far, far more responsibilities on his shoulders. And he probably gets paid less than many of you rightwads. My salary is higher than his, and I don't begrudge him a little R&R given that his job is much harder than mine. You crybabies will find anything, ANYTHING to complain about him, you're just so wadded up in your hatred and bigotry your panties won't let you see straight. Oh – and you Canadians – even if you are sympathetic to the Left and disagree with the Right, most of us aren't interested in your opinion. Like a familiy matter, we can kvetch at each other but outsiders should keep their noses out.

How many trips has he taken (at our expense) since he took office? Other presidents thought Camp David was such a perfect place, guess not for the Obama family.

the president should consider going ahead to his vacation and delaying signing any healthcare bill that comes to his desk. if he does he just helps prove that like every other politician that came before him, he is more interested in actually keeping the status quo going rather than changing it. harry reid pretty much said the other day that this healthcare reform that the senate has produced is the result of doing bussiness as usual. wasn't this what the president promised he'd push back against? worse yet, if the president supports this bill, he's pretty much saying that he does not care that special deals were made to get it passed. if the president still believes that we can't have washington continue playing the same old washington political games, then he should go on vacation and send a strong message that he will not support a bill that is the product of this ailment that he promised he'd cure.

President Obama is doing a masterful job as Commander-in Chief...

...He follows the Constitution to the letter, allowing Congress to make the laws...

...It's too bad half the country are racist, treasonous, inbred, idiots who haven't got a clue...

...and the media is run by the corporations and is on a mission to further confuse imbecilic people who think being a "conservative" is something noble...

...How else does one explain how the media is making it look like DEAL-MAKING, BROKERING, COMPROMISE and LOBBYING all came about within the past temn months under the Obama Administration?

...I now fully understand why revolutionary governments have purges...

...America is full of right wing, confederate, traitors...

But i sincerely hope that after the Democratic senate passes this healthcare bill...

...the President and his family will enjoy a wondrous, safe, and healthy holiday in the destination of their choice...

The status quo is helpful because you have right now a choice. Imagine if you still went without health insurance and had to pay a "tax" at the end of the year because of it. Is that liberty?
Also, you and your wife may be very skilled workers. With those hours and lack of benefits, I would suggest looking for another job. Right now you have the choice to move up. When the unions are installed at your job, will you still have that choice? Or would you settle for what is negotiated for you by the unions at the expense of the ability for your company to compete. That is the America we are headed for. Is that where you want to be or would you rather have the status quo?

First so many of you understand...
President Obama...hasn't taken vacations at the tax payers expense...what he has traveled to make things better between the U.S. and other countries.

Second: For all of you that hate the fact that President OBAMA doesn't look like you, well get over it...if many of you trace your heritage it would be interesting what Massa was doing while Aunt Em wasn't looking.

Third: He was born and raised in like other President's he is going Home...Grow Up America...your really looking SAD!

I wish the Presidents would stop seeking praise for doing their jobs, even if it interferes with personal plans. This is why we HIRE them to do whatever it takes to consider America's needs FIRST!!!
