Gibbs condemns Israel construction in East Jerusalem

(CNN) - White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs issued the following statement on reports Israel says it will build nearly 700 housing units in East Jerusalem, despite continued American opposition.

"The United States opposes new Israeli construction in East Jerusalem. The status of Jerusalem is a permanent status issue that must be resolved by the parties through negotiations and supported by the international community. Neither party should engage in efforts or take actions that could unilaterally pre-empt, or appear to pre-empt, negotiations. Rather, both parties should return to negotiations without preconditions as soon as possible. The United States recognizes that Jerusalem is a deeply important issue for Israelis and Palestinians, and for Jews, Muslims, and Christians. We believe that through good faith negotiations the parties can mutually agree on an outcome that realizes the aspirations of both parties for Jerusalem, and safeguards its status for people around the world."

A Globalist, Universalist administration cheered on by the arrogant, manipulative "prince of prevarication" and "twister of facts" is laying the groundwork for another world war! 🙁

When the problems are peacefully resolved between Israel and Palestine there will be a change in Middle East for the better. Until then there will always be war.

We need to stop funding Genocide and stop the lobbyists (Jewish) here in America from dictating foreign aid and financial policy. Military Contractors need to divest of these businesses to create Peace in this World. The Corporate/Government marriage needs to be dissolved to assist the citizens of the world in meeting their personal needs. American-led Capitalists Worldwide need to be neutralized by Regulations in order to help the majority populations survive and thrive! This is the ROOT of the Problems we face. Radical means ROOT. We need Radical Change NOW.

Israel continues to undermine peace talks. I don't see how the peace talks can continue if the Israelis keep building settlements.

I guess the world doesn't understand that Jerusalem was torn away from Jews by many different groups including the Arabs of the region. The city was reunited by conquest. If that can't be recognized, then there are many people who would be in different countries because land should be given back.

Think of it this way, Jews and the Israelis haven't stoped Muslims from praying that the Temple Mount (the Dome of the Rock or whatever the Arabs call it) like the Arabs did with Jews and the Western Wall when it was under their control. How can this be fair to let the Arabs/Muslims control any of the city when they can let people worship in their holy places?

Israel must not be allowed to keep any land outside the 67 borders. The building of homesteads on Palestinian land in hopes of keep this land during the negations process is wrong. The settlers may keep their homes but they will not be under Israeli control. They will be Israeli citizens living in the West Bank under Palestinian rule. Just like the Arabs living in Israel. This will be good for both parties. It will bring them closer together instead of the divide and conquer strategy in place now.

The statement by Gibbs is wonderful.
I'll be even happier when President Obama speaks those words with his own eloquent style. This is the position many of our citizens would like to see our country take regarding Palestinians and Israelis.
A writer asked in a recent comment why the media did not state the reason that those sending terrorism here hate us so much. The media cannot dwell on such a matter, its being considered bad form and not PC to say anything that might be thought to criticize Israel or its "meaning," but the men boarding our planes with bombs do not hate us because we fail to read and follow the Koran.

The Israelis do what they want, it's time to cut the purse strings, they have plenty of rich American Jews that can contribute to them

the only way to safeguard Jerusalem as a place where anyone can expect freedom of religion is to keep it in Israeli hands, united, as part of Israel. Mr. Gibbs should be reminded that the Arabs used cemetery tombstones as paving stones for construction of roads, and as construction material for latrines, when they controlled Jerusalem in the 1950s and 1960s. they destroyed ancient synagogues and denied Jews and Christians access to holy sites. is Jerusalem to become like Berlin, sectioned off by a wall and barbed wire, with opposing forces firing across the border at each other?

I believe the good people of Israel understand that building of settlements in East Jerusalem is counter productive and out right provacative.

Religion: The curse of humanity, or just cruel hoaxes by those who wanted to control. Actually both! Religious wars will continue until there is noone left to fight. Yes, that is "gods" gift to mankind.
