[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/11/19/giuliani.jpg caption="Rudy Giuliani said Friday that the United States was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office."](CNN) - Echoing recent comments from former Bush administration officials, Rudy Giuliani defended former President George Bush's record on terrorism Friday, saying the country was not subjected to domestic terror attacks when he was in office.
"We had no domestic attacks under Bush; we've had one under Obama," Giuliani said on ABC's Good Morning America.
Democrats and other political observers were quick to question Giuliani's comments, wondering how the former New York City mayor would classify the attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as Richard Reid's attempted shoe-bombing in late 2001.
"Giuliani seems to have forgotten about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and shoe bomber Richard Reid," ABC's George Stephanopoulos, who conducted the Giuliani interview, wrote on his blog.
Giuliani's comments are similar to those of former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino and former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, both of whom have said in recent weeks no terrorism attacks occurred under Bush.
"We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term," Perino told Fox News last November.
In December, Mary Matalin - a former senior adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney - made comments that seemed to place the 9/11 attacks under President Clinton's watch. "We inherited a recession from President Clinton and we inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation's history," Matalin a CNN analyst, told John King on CNN's "State of the Union" last month.

Yeah there were no attacks. Can't think of any.
Your opinion anchor's should be able to think between the lines and stop jumping on the literal meaning of statements to use as headlines. Could you not see that the true meaning was, or for you should have been more clearly stated as such.. 'in response to the terror attacks of 9/11 and the resulting learnings of the inadequacies in place prior to 9/11 and the shoebomber. President bush put in place several measures which kept americans from being subjected to another terror attack while he heald office.' Has Obama taken those things that were already in place and tried to take them further or make them better.. what do you think?
What the heck are these people smoking? Do they really think that we don't remember Bush standing on the smoldering ruins of the world trade center?
Rudy has forgotten the twin tower bombing of September 11, 2001?
Gee, kind of makes Sarah Palin look smart.
Are there any intelligent Republicans? Please, please identify yourself.
To be a repuke is to have no shame. dana perino, mary matalin now this idiot. They truly have lost their minds.
CNN doesn't want to let me post that Rudy forgot about the DC sniper, who spent 3 weeks terrorizing the entire beltway area. I guess proving him wrong is not ok with CNN. If that's not domestic terrorism, then nothing is. Had it been a foreign muslim sniping like that, you'd all be calling it an act of terrorism.
I disagree totally with Rudy, we were attacked by left wing idiots in November. Obama in Guantanamo anyone?
Umm... wow. Just... wow.
As a 22 year long registered independent, I sure would like to get some REAL moderates into our national dialog.
The current system is irrevocably broken. Dems seem to have no backbones, and the GOP seem to have no brains.
Together, they make for one awesome scarecrow though.
I know they scare me.
This guy would make the Stalinists of thirties proud. And so would the the rest of GOP and their teabagging extemists.
They think the rest of us are stupid and uninformed.
As Dostoevsky once said, "reapeat a lie enough and you will begin to believe it."
if sarah palin was a man this is what she would look like rudy the panty
waste
Smug imbecile!
Folks,
Just hold up a flag which reads:
REMEMBER FLORIDA!
That should give him the hibbie jibbies...
Typical spineless media who chooses not to raise question anymore.
It's all infotainment anymore.
Giuliani forgot that the 9/11 attack was under Bush because like many 9/11 rescue workers and volunteers, who inhaled large amounts of dust and debris during the cleanup and are now sickly and dealing with major health issues such as breathing problems and loss of memory.
It is so annoying to see Republicans making "talking points" and spreading their obvious and blatant lies.
Increase funding and support for 9/11 rescue workers and volunteers and decrease the number of lying idiot Republicans like Giuliani
I COULDNT AGREE MORE: 911 IS JUST a product of our imagination. At best 911 happened either ex post under president Clinton or ex ante under president Obama. Republican=Inbecile, brainless, cretin, stupid, idiot you finish it
Not only was 9-11 under George Bush but what about all the attacks on women's health clinics and other acts of domestic terrorism which were commited against Americans by the right wing lunatic fringe durint the Bush administration ?
BTW for "stephensonbillings" ........ sir, the September 11th 2001 terrorists were Saudi Arabian citizens, not ONE was from Afghanistan.
Please, GOPers if you are going to post get the facts right.
Yeah Rudy and there were no terrorist attacks when you were mayor either, so what made you think you could be president again?
@ svs...... I am a registered Independent, there are many of us posting and discussing national issues. Peace.
Don’t you dare trivialize the deaths of 3,000 plus people, you SOB!!!
He's right. Bush was out of the office and at a school when 9/11 occurred. Idiot.
And the press just gives them a pass for lying. The same way the gave Dick Cheney and George Bush a pass when they lied about WMD in Iraq and lied America into a war. Our news media is now a joke. It's a shame.
Oh Rudy hopefully the media will someday make you go away like the other republican village idiots Bush, Chaney, Palin, and the list goes on and on. Oh by the way Rudy when McCain (McShame) was asked how many dining rooms he had he said "you will have to ask the staff". Oh Rudy do you not remember 911 and Richard Reid? Signed a republican that did not vote for the village idiot that is out of the white house now and will probably not ever vote for another republican again Jim Hall Kansas City, Mo.
Domestic Terrorism – A terrorist attack in a country by citizens of that country – IE: Oklahoma City bombing. Or IRA attacks in Ireland, etc.
International Terrorism – A terrorist attack in a foreign country by citizens not belonging to that country. IE: 9/11, Shoe Bomber, etc.
Mark the article (and the hundreds of comments) up to the ignorance of the people.
Guliani and Matalan are just practising the Joseph Goebbels "big lie" theory. Make up the most far fetched tale you can and repeat it as often as possible and people will begin to believe it. Typical Republican strategy.
I am amazed at these stupid idiot republicans. I watched the interview and could not believe my ears. I could not believe that the dumb person interviewing him did not correct him. These people hate President so much they would be happy that an attack would occur during the Obama administration. It is sad they would love to see people killed so they can prey on the fears of the American people.
