Obama unveils $2.3 billion for clean energy jobs

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - President Obama unveiled a program Friday that will provide $2.3 billion in tax credits for the clean energy manufacturing sector, a move aimed at creating 17,000 jobs.

The funding, which comes from the $787 billion American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, has been awarded to 183 projects in 43 states, the White House announced.

"If we harness ingenuity, take the talent of our workers and innovators, and we invest in it, we'll forge a future where life is better in our country over the long run," Obama said.

The projects selected must be commissioned by February 2013, and the government expects about one-third of those will be completed this year. The program provides a 30% tax credit for those projects.

This is what should have been done instead of bailing out wall street and the banks and insurance companies...

Jobs first, bonuses for CEOs and lobbying NEVER.

That's $135,294.12 per job. How many of those 17,000 jobs will have that kind of salary?

Enough already........please stop this man from spending money we don't have!! Send him back to school to take a few business courses. Talk about living beyond his means, what does he think America is...a blank check for him to waste?? I don't think we can survive another 3 years of this clueless fool.

This kind of investment should have happened years ago ... but back then, the oil Prez and VP were in the White House, so I guess it isn't surprising ...

I may be wrong, the (president and our government is clueless,) why there are no jobs in America today.

Number one reason unions don’t get me wrong unions are good in many ways, because unions helped me in a big way.

But when it comes to unions getting pay increases for the employees so they can go up on their union dues, and it keep snowballing with more pay and benefit increases it gets to the point where the company just cannot keep up with the pay increases and health insurance and other benefits and all of the other hassles, They have to go through to stay in business.

So they close up shop and move to other countries; where there are no Union’s LAWYERS and health insurance, and all of the other LAWYER issues, and I cannot blame them.

Now these new businesses that the president was talking about will get unions and the same things will happen. UNIONS and LAWYERS ! .

What a good idea! It reminds me of the kind of creative thinking that characterized the Roosevent Administration during the Great Depression. It takes money to make money.

joe kiloz says, "That's $135,294.12 per job. How many of those 17,000 jobs will have that kind of salary?"

How many jobs have you worked where all you did was show up and breathe air?

A job includes the facility and all the other infrastructure (physical, technological, benefits, etc., etc.).

Do you ever do anything other than parrot what Faux and Limbaugh say? Use your head, man!

Does tax credits count as spending money? I thought they were reductions in taxable income and the right was all about less taxes. Am I off?

It's a tax credit, not a direct payment to employees.

What guarantees are there that the jobs will stay in the US? Of the $1B + we have already spent on green energy through the stimulus bill, approx. 85% of it went offshore... are we sure the jobs are stating in the US? Who is making sure they do?

Bobby is a typical GOPer about unions. HE personally benefitted, but now that he's been able to benefit from the high wages, health benefits, job security, and retirement pensions HIS union gave him, he doesn't want anyone else to enjoy the same benefits.

Republicans=I've got Mine, screw everyone else.

This is another job stimulus plan that will be money spent and no jobs created. All he 's doing with all that money is expanding government jobs and trying to save the union jobs at the failing auto companies. This is tax money going down the drain.

ThinkAgain – try it some time; thinking again, or for the first time perhaps.....the free market could create FAR more jobs for 2.3B than Obama's worthless plan....plants and infrastructure exist all across this nation, no need to build....what the problem is your beloved Obama is taxing to death REAL hardworking citizens to pay for the slugs of society to have further entitlements and healthcare...this all in the name to secure votes for his future demise of America...so, while all the minorities, and welfare hacks are sucking up the benefits more and more of the country's going broke....once he's broke the back of the country, per Alinsky, he'll rebuild it into the socialist nannystate that morons like you are oblivous to! But not to fear, liberals, like yourself, only make up 21% or less of the country, and during the next election ACORN and all the other corrupt methods Obama used to get elected will be scrutinized...and he'll lose, rightfully so, by a landslide. Leeches like you don't deserve to call this country your home.

Tax breaks are good for business, companies can afford to hire more people and grow. If Odumbo can keep this up I will stop calling him Odumbo and call him by his real name. Really I will.
    Good move sir.

The sooner that America weans itself off of Saudi Arabia's foreign Oil, the more American citizens are going to personally prosper.

American taxpayers are paying much of their hard earned dollars for Saudi Oil, fighting Saudi proxy Oil Wars and protecting Saudi interests in Yemen.

America's automakers bowing to Big Oil have let down the American people. Changing over America's electrical grid to fully support electric vehicles is an enormous undertaking which should have begun in increment steps during the past 20 years. Those upgrades and investments are placed into mainland America directly benefiting American workers and American's using those services.
