(CNN) - President Barack Obama's making a personal pitch for fellow Democrat Martha Coakley in next Tuesday's Senate election in Massachusetts.
The president is putting out e-mail and Web video in support of Coakley, the Massachusetts attorney general, who's running in the special election to serve the final three years of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's term. The e-mail and video will be sent out Thursday to the Massachusetts distribution list of Organizing for America, the president's political arm at the Democratic National Committee.
"I am supporting Martha Coakley. As your attorney general, she's taken on Wall Street schemes, insurance company abuses, and big polluters," Obama says in the e-mail. "She'll be your voice, and my ally. And she needs your help."
At stake is the Democrats supermajority in the Senate. If Republican state Sen. Scott Brown wins, the Democrats lose their 60 seat filibuster-proof coalition in the chamber, threatening their chances of passing the health care reform bill Obama hopes to sign into law.
A non-partisan poll released this past weekend by The Boston Globe indicated that Coakley held a 15-point advantage over Brown, but other surveys, including several partisan polls, have suggested the race is much closer.
Brown is hoping to become the first Massachusetts Republican to win a U.S. Senate seat since 1972. Independent Joseph Kennedy, a third party candidate who is not related to the late senator, is also in the race.
poor obama-to see it all melting away so quickly and no one to turn to...
There's reason enough to vote against her.
Obama PLEASE go to Massachusetts and campaign for Coakley, just like you did in New Jersey.
And, we all know what happened in New Jersey!!!!
Maybe that empty suit Obama can exempt Mass. Democrats who vote for Cokley from paying Federal Taxes, he's would make a deal with the devil to keep his health care scam on track.
This will only help Scott Brown.
Glad he can do that instead of work on unemployment. I guess he really was trying to help another Dem get a job!
Sen. Brown has already stated that if he wins he will": send the health care plan back". There's your Repubs for you. No word about reworking, or improving, or meeting with the Pres. No, just your old "Party Of No" at work again.. A vote for a Republican in 2010 is a vote against a health plan, pure and simple. The insurance companies have them sewed up and as long as any of them can make a dime, they will not care whether your family has medical coverage or not. That is what they have been loudly telling us all this last year. Frankly, I could not vote for a Repub. for any office from now on. I don't trust them to have my familys best interest at heart.
C'mon Massechusetts.. Do this for Teddy..... Y'all can not let those "out of touch" republicans win what has been ours for years..
I would have voted for her if he had not spoken up. But hey, he doesn't really stand for anything anyway. I'm sure he will back away from his statements in about... 3..... 2...... 1.........
pssssst Martha.....these days having the President telling the American people he is supporting you isn't such a good idea. Just sayin
What a mistake Coakley would be. I hope Massachusetts is paying attention to this critical election. She believes that just being a Democrat gives her the right to win. Hasn't a clue as to what is going on regarding the War on Terror or anything else . Has just sat back and then realized she could be in trouble. No kidding!!!
I will vote for her if I lived in Mass.
Web Video only.
That says it all.
Obama says in the e-mail. "She'll be your voice, and my ally...
Operative words, MY ALLY.
I am not too sure this is a good idea for the democrats. It sounds like a lot of these people are looking to vote republican because of Mr. Obama's high spending policies, especially the latest health care bills, this ad may lose them votes.
This is the probLEMA, sne is going to be ally to Obama. This is "change" crap back. MAS. go for BROWN.
A sitting President should not be allowed to endnose any othe politician. We need to keep state politics within the state's borders. The seat in the Senate belongs to the people of Massachusetts and no money or influence from outside the state should be permitted.
Too bad the gutless fraud wouldn't show up person, just to once again see the arrogant jerk make a high profile play and SEE HIS CANDIDATE LOSE.
I would have loved to shout to the coward, "You lie" as it is true, he is a lying, arrogant empty uh, uh, h, uh, uh, uh, uh suit.
Nobody making less than 250,000 will see higher taxes
You can keep your Doctor
You can keep your current insurance
I will show the HC debates on C-SPAN
I will close GITMO within a year
I love my country
ALL LIES.
Scott Brown for US Senate, he knows there are terrorists and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, knows how to spell Massachusetts and doesn't have thugs to hit people that ask him questions, HE ANSWERS THEM POLITELY unlike Martha Milk carton.
To Mr Gergen recently, "It is not the Kennedy's seat, it is not the Demorats seat, it is the people's seat".
Nuff said.
He can plea all he wants. The reason Scott Brown is so close is that people are rejecting his health care reform.
Perhaps - just perhaps - if the Democrats lost their supermajority in the Senate (a very bad idea for any party!), we could once again become a working bipartisan nation with representatives who are supposed to be a concerned voice for the prople they represent, not for the party they belong to.
Obama wants you to vote for Coakley.
All the more reason to vote for Scott Brown.
Time to return the seat to the people Not the Elitists.
dems are getting desparate! can't wait to see what they will be doing and saying for their dummicrats partners in november LOO
He didn't make a bit of difference in New Jersey and he won't here, either. One year and he's useless politically. Great job electing a leader, America.
I hope she wins. Anything the Dems can do is 100% better than the Rethugs. They are greedy, selfish people who really don't care about anything that improves people's lives. They're only interested in their own selfish interests and they were the ones that gave us the 7th worst president ever.
Obama/Biden 2012
um I don't think this will help. There is a reason the race is close in liberal MA.
