New poll shows majorities don't want Palin to run

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/11/30/art.palin.928.jpg caption=" A new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president."](CNN) - Sarah Palin attracted huge crowds across the country last fall as she promoted her best-selling memoir, but a new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president.

According to a new CBS News poll out Tuesday, 71 percent are against the former Republican vice presidential candidate launching her own bid for the White House in two years while 21 percent are in favor of a potential run.

Broken down by party, 56 percent of Republicans are against a potential Palin presidential campaign while 30 percent are for it. Meanwhile, the vast majority of Democrats, 88 percent, are not in favor of a Palin presidential run.

The survey also finds significantly more people view Palin negatively than positively: 41 percent negative compared to 26 percent positive.

Both those numbers have increased since Palin's high-profile book tour late last year and since becoming a Fox News contributor last week. In November, 38 percent held an unfavorable view of Palin while 23 percent held a positive view of her.

Among Republicans in the latest poll, 43 percent hold a positive view of Palin while 30 percent of independents do. Meanwhile, just under a half of conservatives view Palin favorably while only 16 percent of liberals do.

Meanwhile, a majority of conservatives, 58 percent say Palin should run for president in 2012.

Every night I pray that Palin will run as an Independent, we democrats need all the help we can get in our efforts to defend America from the republican horde and Palin screwing up the GOP would be our best bet.

Yes! Finally and opportunity to back a real candidate. Come on, just imagine - Newt Gingrich and Sara Palin. Or maybe Mike Huckabee and Sara or Mitt Romney. The possibilities are endless. Just sends shivers of anticipation down my spine.

The 1st pairing the philandering kettle who called the pot black AND the quitter who left her state high and dry. The 2nd would bring a dyed in the wool creationist to team with her, or the 3rd that smart and powerful business man from the east coast who saved the Olympics single handedly – they could team up to ice dance!

Every one should back this dynamic group.

I'm an independent voter. I think it would be a huge mistake if she were to run for president. She has a "down home" type personality that people seem to like in her, but I don't think she is capable of running this country. Being a Governor is about all she is capable of in my mind!

Someday this EVIL empty headed ex-beauty queen will be nothing more than a faint memory. After all, how many Americans even remember our 44th VP, Dan Quayle, Mr. Potatoe Head who said the following, “People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history.” OR NOT!!!

Gosh, I can't stand Sarah. I am a democrat and the fact that this woman believes she is aloud to think for herself is offensive. To top it off, where does she get away with trying to do things that traditionally men have done. That compiled with the fact that she has traditional family values and what do you get....SARAH. She is no where in the ballpark of what we democrats want in women. We want them to be at home on public assistance, and to listen to what they are told. It helps if they have at least 4 illegitimate kids as well. This Sarah woman needs to be stopped so that democrat women will not expect they can do the same things she does. Oh and btw, she is a Christian so as a liberal I must hate her.

    Why am I not surprised???

Sarah Palin cannot even complete a sentence without it being a RUN-ON sentence!

Naming a FOUNDING FATHER?? That's easy! Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Ethan Allen, just to name a few.

Why are the liberals so obsessed with Sarah Palin? Oh yeah, she is a descent human being who only wants what is good for America and the American People. Sorry, I forgot that all liberals really like are socialism and Big Gov Co that like to meet behind closed doors to decide on our future. I don't want Sarah to run for President, but I like and respect her and she must be doing something right to have the left wing so concerned about her.

Since she is really is a stupid a woman, I, in a way, feel sorry for her.

She has no idea that THIS is her legacy. When the McMoney folks called to get her on board, she should have hung up. This way MOST of America would not know her name and her awful reputation.

Not to mention how ill informed she really was after all. Once more, she just keeps all of her nay sayers more ammo every time she speaks.

I picture her camp just cringing to hear her reply to simple questions.
High fiving each other when she gets right...

Could you imagine what the history text books are going to say?
Yikes, I hope they good proof readers.

I don't believe these polls. I have seen other polls that are very much in her favor. And all of these people that are saying that Sarah Palin is not very bright are really ignorant of the facts. She is extremely smart and really understands what is going on this world. Don't kid yourself. You just do not like her politics. In addition, I have listened to her interviews lately and she has not declared as of yet that she is even running for president in the next election. There is a good chance she will but she still is testing the waters. I think there are good politicians on both sides of the aisle. I would like to see them work together instead of tearing each other apart and that goes for the voters as well. Instead of focusing on the negatives in everyone and calling them names let's start naming their strengths and weaknesses (in a kind way) and figuring out who is best for the job.

I don't know why so many Democrats don't want her to run, it would be a landslide for them if she did.
