New poll shows majorities don't want Palin to run

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/11/30/art.palin.928.jpg caption=" A new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president."](CNN) - Sarah Palin attracted huge crowds across the country last fall as she promoted her best-selling memoir, but a new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president.

According to a new CBS News poll out Tuesday, 71 percent are against the former Republican vice presidential candidate launching her own bid for the White House in two years while 21 percent are in favor of a potential run.

Broken down by party, 56 percent of Republicans are against a potential Palin presidential campaign while 30 percent are for it. Meanwhile, the vast majority of Democrats, 88 percent, are not in favor of a Palin presidential run.

The survey also finds significantly more people view Palin negatively than positively: 41 percent negative compared to 26 percent positive.

Both those numbers have increased since Palin's high-profile book tour late last year and since becoming a Fox News contributor last week. In November, 38 percent held an unfavorable view of Palin while 23 percent held a positive view of her.

Among Republicans in the latest poll, 43 percent hold a positive view of Palin while 30 percent of independents do. Meanwhile, just under a half of conservatives view Palin favorably while only 16 percent of liberals do.

Meanwhile, a majority of conservatives, 58 percent say Palin should run for president in 2012.

That is good enough for me, she should run. If she were to win, then George W Bush would no longer be the worst president in American history.

The Republican and Tea Party movement is concerned with making as much money as possible. Michael Steele is hawking his book; Palin is hawking her book and trying to capitalize on her fame by signing lucrative deals on Fox News. She's made more in the last few months than she could've ever made being a public official. She doesn't need to be elected to anything at this rate. She'll make as much cash as possible.

Just what we need – another empty headed puppet who works for the big corporations. Hopefully, enough Americans will have learned from the devastation the Republicans heaped on this country during the Bush years. The rich get richer, the middle-class get poorer, and the poor have children.

This nit wit is first and foremost stupid not to mention she is a very nasty liar. She goes around criticizing the President and she know nothing, only the hannity, fat greasy limbaugh, oreilly and beck are all ga ga over her. Anybody with an IQ over 75 knows she is a idiot.

It is so funny to me whenvever she tries to give an interview, she can talk for 30 seconds and when she finally shut up with that annoying voice of hers, she has not made one complete sentence. LOL

Obviously, it's not just "liberals" who find her to be incompetent, but you'll never convince those that refuse to face facts.

Can the 88% number be accurate? EVERY Democrat should be thrilled about the prospect of a Palin candidacy.

Please, please, please run for President in 2012 Sarah! As a Democrat, I can't think of a better candidate for the GOP to run.

I am not sure about poll, But i must let Sarah know my heart. I was lifetime democrat, I loved Hillary with my heart, but last primary election made me change my party. I like Sarah very much, I don't want she does same mistake, it is destiny of our country, I wish she contribute or build enough career for the country and then run in 2016 or 2020. I am sure she knows what is good
for our country. It will be hard to be elected, Americans refused the most qualified candidate, Hillary for our president, so I hope Sarah consider about 2008.

i had to force myself to watch glen beck's interview with palin. it was the most boring hour and clearly showed palin in not ready for any form of political anything. she would be fine to have as a next door neighbor to invite over for coffee but talking politics with this woman is out of the question. she is just not educated on any form of government. the interest in her is purely for jokes and shaking heads at how unqualified she is to talk about anything outside of her religion.
i almost feel sorry for her but john mccain is the real villian here for ever bringing such a dim-witted person such as sarah into the lime lite. shame on him.

That is only because the Repubs think she can't win! Poll how the votes would go Palin VS Obama and you will see what kind of support she really has!

When like 6 other polls show these #s way off then you have to look within the #s and try to figure out why this putlier is here.
One thing is they had 4 categories. Included in one is has not heard enough which was 13%? OK unless they polled somebody trapped in the rubble in Haiti, everybody has heard plenty about her so right there you have to question this poll.
Using the same pollster and categories last July had Obama with only 38% approval. CBS News has a track record as being the worse pollster in AMerica. Don't understand why CNN would not just use their own poll and forget the outliers. Actually it is obvious why.

Why wouldn't Democrats want Palin to run??? On the long-shot that she could even win the nomination it would be a field day for Dems.

I hope to God Sarah runs for President and is the Republican nominee. It would be the best way to ensure a Democratic candidate wins the White House.

Gee, what a shame! I was hoping she would hang in there and maybe choose old Nute as a running mate (or vice versa), which would ensure a landslide victory: for the Democrats.
