New poll shows majorities don't want Palin to run

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/11/30/art.palin.928.jpg caption=" A new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president."](CNN) - Sarah Palin attracted huge crowds across the country last fall as she promoted her best-selling memoir, but a new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president.

According to a new CBS News poll out Tuesday, 71 percent are against the former Republican vice presidential candidate launching her own bid for the White House in two years while 21 percent are in favor of a potential run.

Broken down by party, 56 percent of Republicans are against a potential Palin presidential campaign while 30 percent are for it. Meanwhile, the vast majority of Democrats, 88 percent, are not in favor of a Palin presidential run.

The survey also finds significantly more people view Palin negatively than positively: 41 percent negative compared to 26 percent positive.

Both those numbers have increased since Palin's high-profile book tour late last year and since becoming a Fox News contributor last week. In November, 38 percent held an unfavorable view of Palin while 23 percent held a positive view of her.

Among Republicans in the latest poll, 43 percent hold a positive view of Palin while 30 percent of independents do. Meanwhile, just under a half of conservatives view Palin favorably while only 16 percent of liberals do.

Meanwhile, a majority of conservatives, 58 percent say Palin should run for president in 2012.

A plurality of Republicans like Palin. That's all I need to know about those right-wing nuts; they should not be allowed within 100 feet from a voting booth!

Sarah Palin needs to go home and take care of her children and do something else, she will NEVER be president, this country might not always be the smartest but we are too smart to put a ignorant woman like Palin into a high office, I'm a woman and would love to see a woman get the presidency before I leave this earth, but not Palin, someone with a good brain like HIlary Clinton!

"Idiot America" can be fooled for only so long before they realize that they are being conned by a grifter.

Bhu-Buh Bye Sister Sarah. Maybe you can get a job as a commentator on the 700 Club – Heard ol' Pat Robertson is looking for another fact mangling snake handler that can speak in tongues for his broadcast...

  6. PULEEEZZZ!! lets tell some truth

THERE must be a GOD after all!!! The idea of a self serving air head
becoming the president of the U.S.A was so depressing. Like hitting the
bottom of the bottom! The more we see this person in action the less chance she has of running for anything but the bus.

The woman is a joke. She couldn't even keep her own daughter in line with the family values of the Christian Right. Just make her go away. Here's an idea.. Pat Robertson and Sarah Palin in 2012!

Everytime CNN runs a Palin piece, its as if CNN is in denial with the rest of the national media. Palin is not favored for anything other than retirement. But yet CNN runs big pieces about Palin attracting big crowds for book signings. That has nothing to do with the rest of the country not interested in her. Who cares about a book signing, Stephen King has book signing, but I can't make it because he is signing 2000 miles away. I don't care for Palin....she is seriously out of wack with the new true honest American way of thinking. Matt Damon said it best, "Scary to think that a soccer mom will have access to the nuclear codes"......

I'd really like to see her run. Things have been really dry in the last four months. My friends and I haven't had a good laugh in awhile.

Personally, I would love to see Ms. Palin the ignorant run for and receive her party's nomination. The idiot ideology that she represents would give a stark contrast to the thoughtful, intelligent and charismatic presence of Barack Obama.

I think she is a waste of time (politically). Still, she is kind of cute.

I think this whole issue is being manufactured so as to create news stories. By the way CNN, the following two sentences in this article are self-contradictory: "Meanwhile, just under a half of conservatives view Palin favorably while only 16 percent of liberals do." vs. "Meanwhile, a majority of conservatives, 58 percent say Palin should run for president in 2012." How could both be true. How could 58 percent of conservatives want her to run, while less than 50 percent approve of her?

She is so dumb and she proved it again on her interview at Fox News. She is so inarticulate, unpolished, ignorant and uneducated. If the Reps. ever want to have a chance again, they should bury her as deep as they can.

  17. Stephan Srock,

Is anyone really surprised? Keep in mind that 'Ol Sarah was a "last minute" choice for the GOP VP, and even then they knew what they were getting...........................a major disappointment. Now she is out doing the rhetorical spin on everything from Russia to Katie! She just has an insatiable appetite for attention and will get it at any cost!

I like Sarah Palin as a person and as igniting force for the Republican Party, however she does not have what it takes to be president. Support your causes and your party but do not run.

Why exactly do conservative see in her to favor her? I am neither a conservative nor a liberal, but this lady does not even have a common sense. McC ain would have been better off with Mike Huckabee. We do not need talk show jibber jabber as American representation.
