New poll shows majorities don't want Palin to run

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/11/30/art.palin.928.jpg caption=" A new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president."](CNN) - Sarah Palin attracted huge crowds across the country last fall as she promoted her best-selling memoir, but a new survey suggests an overwhelming number of Americans don't want the former Alaska governor to run for president.

According to a new CBS News poll out Tuesday, 71 percent are against the former Republican vice presidential candidate launching her own bid for the White House in two years while 21 percent are in favor of a potential run.

Broken down by party, 56 percent of Republicans are against a potential Palin presidential campaign while 30 percent are for it. Meanwhile, the vast majority of Democrats, 88 percent, are not in favor of a Palin presidential run.

The survey also finds significantly more people view Palin negatively than positively: 41 percent negative compared to 26 percent positive.

Both those numbers have increased since Palin's high-profile book tour late last year and since becoming a Fox News contributor last week. In November, 38 percent held an unfavorable view of Palin while 23 percent held a positive view of her.

Among Republicans in the latest poll, 43 percent hold a positive view of Palin while 30 percent of independents do. Meanwhile, just under a half of conservatives view Palin favorably while only 16 percent of liberals do.

Meanwhile, a majority of conservatives, 58 percent say Palin should run for president in 2012.

    Reality prevails.

Besides, she will make lots of money at FOX "News".

I wonder how long it will take for her future affair with Hannity to go public??? Gotta love these Repubs!

Why is this a surprise??? We didn't want her for vice president, so why would we want her for Pres? If she was just a heartbeat away from being president before, then how has that changed?

  5. 21%

I think that 21% is the saddest bunch. I haven't met anyone who has positive things to say about SP that have anything to do with:
    the United States.

The positive comments are all about:
    How she looks
How average she is(this is supposed to be good).
    How nice she seems.

    This speaks for itself.

Don't think this poll shows the truth. I'm pretty sure 100% of the Democrats like myself would love for her to run.

Actually, this is a good day for Palin. Americans - even in blue, blue, blue, Massachusetts - are shouting NO! NO! NO! to the self-proclaimed elitists who scheme to steal your grandmother's Medicare.

The only real question is why favorable ratings are so high. ive her a few more weeks on fux, even conservatives will hate her by then. She is the hot chick you wait and wait to get out on a date and 5 minutes into dinner you are ready to climb out the bathroom window because no matter how pretty she may be she is an insufferable nit wit. The kind of woman you would chew your own arm off to get out from under her without waking her up while you make your escape.

She has nothing to worry about. We love electing brainless republican twits to public office. Notice the intellectual gap between the last few repubs and dem presidents? More like a chasm actually. If Obama doesn't get his act straight like the intelligent person he is she might have a chance to prove once again it doesn't take brains to be a bad president. And don't tell me about Reagan, he wasn't so great and wasn't responsible for most of what is attributed to him.

Please run, Sarah, run run run, and utterly destroy any chance the GOP has of putting up any kind of credible threat to the Democrats. You would be doing your country a huge favor, ya sure, ya betchya.

My family will strongly consider leaving America if this woman becomes President. It would be a national tragedy. We are hopefully smart enough to recognize that Palin as President would be ridiculous for our nation.

If it is true that such a high percentage of polled Democrats do not want Sarah to run, I am astonished. Nothing could be more likely to guarantee a Democratic victory.

I hope she reads the results of the poll and gets the hint!!! Go away Sarah! You've already lived through the best of your 15 minutes of fame. Now it's time to bow out graciously, enjoy the money you have made by making a fool of yourself, and do us all a favor and disappear!!!

OK –so 71% to the negative side........ Sarah, "Time to pack it up and go back to being a nothing." Maybe another run for School Board or some other position fitting with your knowledge, skills, and ability? You had your big shot at fame as Governor of Alaska, not withstanding the fact that the Mayor of Tampa FL has more constituents, you could not even do that correctly........ Just go away

With a house full of children who seem to really need a mom, not to mention a special needs child, has it ever occurred to anyone that her family just might benefit if she spent more time with with them, instead of compulsively trying to get her name/face out there?

I want her to run to ensure another Democratic victory. She is one of the poster children for ignorance and hate. The republican party is going backwards and we need to go forward.

Sarah Palin is going to run and she is going to win in 2012. Our country is in dire straits and it will take a good conservative woman to bring our country back from the Socialist brink. She will put the American people before any business constituents, just like she did in Alaska. People fear her because their cronie capitalism will be put in jeopardy. They fear her common sense and truthfulness will be appealing to the people.

I have read a lot of disappointment with Palin supporters that said she should not have taken the job at Fox......I am not a Palin supporter, never have been never will be and I agree that the more she exposes herself on Fox the more she will draw attention to her lack of knowledge and her lack of speaking intelligently (not to mention that every things she says will follow her into her campaign if she decides to run and be used against her).......as the days, months and the next 3 years go by the lower she will go in the Polls

My faith in American voters is restored! Democrats don't *hate* SP, but she's just another tool of the GOP – spreading fear and misinformation to incite the crowds. She'll fit in well with her fellow tools on Fox.

Why does this very liberal site obsess about Sarah Palin? Why for instance do we see very little of the negative polls on Obama? Any thing negative about the Socialist Dems does not get any print on this web site. This is why so many more people tune into Fox.... This is brainwashing of the American people by ommitting News that does not help the socialist Dems cause. Thereby trying to steer public opinion with a false sense of reality..... When you have to do these sorts of things shouldnt this tell you that your agenda may be all wrong and not the best for the American people? If your agenda is the best... then the light of day or reporting all sides would come natural and you would not be afraid to do that. Wake up CNN or you will be gone also.......
