Palin hired former Gore speechwriter for big speech

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/11/30/art.palin.928.jpg caption="Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin delivered a humorous speech at the Gridiron Dinner last December."]Washington (CNN) – Sarah Palin's political action committee doled out tens of thousands of dollars last year to Republican consulting firms and donations to GOP candidates, according to the PAC's end-of-year filing with the Federal Election Commission.

But Sarah PAC also paid one Democrat $14,000 for what the FEC report terms "Consulting, Communication, Speech."

That Democrat was Eric Schnure, a former speechwriter for Al Gore, who was hired by Palin to craft her humorous speech to the Gridiron Dinner in Washington last December.

Schnure, a speechwriting veteran who recently signed on with the communications consulting firm Dewey Square Group, calls himself a "proud Democrat." But Schnure said he had no problem helping a Republican – even one as polarizing as Palin – with a speech designed to make people laugh.

"I think humor is one of the last bastions of bipartisanship," Schnure told CNN. "She elicits strong opinions on both sides of the aisle, but I think most people in Washington are savvy about these things. And they understand these humor events have a special place."

Still, Schnure said he has received a fair amount of ribbing from fellow Democrats – including his wife – for lending a hand to Palin.

There used to be a time when liberals would at least make an effort at defending thier positions before resorting to name calling, now they just skip the effort and go straight to personel attacks. I happen to like Palin's political ideas and would have no problem debating them, but I probably wouldn't be interested in having a beer with her. Obama I would have a beer with and maybe play some ball with but I disagree with almost all of his ideas for the country.

I'm sure if this is true that it won't go over very well with the Tea Party crowd. But as of right now they have so much division in their ranks that might not even notice.

Rather than lend Sarah a hand, he could have been a real gentleman and lent her a brain instead. Somebody, please step up!

  6. This Is Getting Old

Imagine that – a politician having someone write their speech. While I agree that the irony of this is quite comical, this "story" is otherwise irrelevant.

I don't get why people get so angry at HER when a pointless story such as this one is reported. Blame the media wanting to track her every move so they can be there to report her every indiscretion and cast every possible negative light on the woman. I also think it's hypocritical to wish for her to go away, and in the very next breath chastize her for resigning as governor. She no longer has an active role in politics – which is what so many of you wanted – can't we start directing our anger and concern towards something more relevant that actually has an impact on us and our country?

There are NO humorous or happy people in the Republican realm.....just a group of bitter, revengeful and lost souls. They can't even think because their ONLY answer to help the American people is " NO" !

Didn't she piece together a journalism degree after six or eight years?
But she can't write a speech?

    She's a category 5 idiot.

The real story here should be the biased media. The link to the article "Palin paid Dem, Records Show" is totally misleading but oh so typical. It makes it sound like she paid someone off for some sort of political favor or back room deal and not that she paid someone to write a speech for here.

Keep at it Liberals. You sure are afraid of Sarah Palin. Just goes to show how much you really know about things. Maybe you should wise up and see where your buddy Obama is leading this country. Down the tubes.

If Palin couldn't stand up to Katie Couric, how would she stand up to the real heavy hitters and issues on the world stage? I support the right and am tired and angry about the direction this nation is headed but if Sarah Palin is going to run for president, I believe she would do a great deal more harm than good.

"But Schnure said he had no problem helping a Republican – even one as polarizing as Palin – with a speech designed to make people laugh."

Its the folks on the left who think she is polarizing, and the more CNN and other liberal news outlits follow her every move and criticize her the more she brings Republicans and Independants together to oppose the liberals in Congress and the White House.

The pendulum is swinging back in a huge way and pretty soon you Liberals and the idiots who post hatefull vile stuff here are going to feel very lonely.

    Nov. can't come fast enough.

Gee, must be nice to have $14,000 to throw around to have someone write a speech for her at an event she probably made thousands of dollars giving it.

I just love the fact that all the right wingers who think she's just a hockey mom don't understand she really isn't. What hockey mom do you know that can spend that kind of money to have a speech written?

CNN What is the obsession with this twit’s every move? She flies to X place, she talks to X, she criticizes x and so on on.. I know she gets 300 + comments. CNN reports her every move and we were sick of it 6 months ago. I don’t see CNN writing about other people’s facebook comments. Political ticker is for political stories not about Palin this and Palin that. Oh Palin’s daughter is suing for child support!!! Has the world leader in news become TMZ…..

Palin needs more help than hiring a speech writer, how about hiring a brain surgeon or is it too late.

BTW- Palen needs a speechwriter likes Obama needs a teleprompter- and whats on the teleprompter- a speech. Obama is a teleprompter in a suit.

I guess she couldn't find a Republican speech writer with a sense of humor so she had to turn to a Democrat. Republicans and Teabaggers, eat your hearts out!
