Campbell: Fiorina in 'full Mutton Meltdown mode'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/04/art.mutton0204.yt.jpg caption="'Carly Fiorina's campaign is in full Mutton Meltdown mode, with an increasingly bizarre fixation on farm animals,' Campbell spokesman Jamie Fisfis said in a statement Thursday."]

(CNN) - In just 24 hours, the three-way Republican Senate primary in California has descended into a squabble over bloated budgets, "demon sheep" and now ... mutton.

The latest jab comes courtesy of Tom Campbell - the brainy budget wizard and former Republican congressman doing battle with Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore for the GOP nomination. On Thursday, Campbell finally hit back at Fiorina for her campaign's bizarre new Web video accusing Campbell of being a fiscal liberal - an ominous three minute clip depicting gathering storm clouds and evil-looking livestock.

The video instantly became the subject of Internet mockery when it was posted on Wednesday.

Earlier: DeVore campaign slams Fiorina video

"Carly Fiorina's campaign is in full Mutton Meltdown mode, with an increasingly bizarre fixation on farm animals," Campbell spokesman Jamie Fisfis said in a statement Thursday. "She's admitted missing a decade's worth of opportunities to vote for budget reform, but instead of offering solutions, all she has for voters are dogs, cats and demon-sheep."

Fisfis said that "contrary to Carly Fiorina's insulting portrayal of fiscal conservatives as sheep, these are in fact involved people who engage the issues and ask tough questions. And unlike Carly Fiorina, they have fought alongside Tom Campbell on the front lines of spending reform and supported these reforms with their votes."

UPDATE: The Fiorina campaign argues that the "demon sheep" buzz is only drawing more attention to their message - that Campbell can't be trusted when it comes to taxes and spending.

"Our campaign is energized by the overwhelming response to this video because the message is getting out that Tom Campbell supports higher taxes and bigger government and that was our goal," Fiorina spokeswoman Julie Soderlund said in an e-mail to CNN. "We thank the Campbell campaign for their strange and delayed response to this, which has only lead to more views of the video."

Fiorina's team knocked Campbell for supporting a temporary gas tax hike to close California's massive budget deficit.

"We look forward to a continued, substantive debate about the issues and hope that Tom Campbell is willing to be more forthright than he has been with voters about the fact that he thinks more spending and more taxes are the answer," Soderlund said.

I think Fiorina is actually trying to reference the whole "anybody who opposes me is in league with the Devil" tactic of the far-right religious nuts.

In any event, after this ad and what it says about her mental state, she is toast!

Carly Fiorina will NEVER get Barbara Boxer's senate seat. Sorry, Carly – stay in the country club spotlight – CALIFORNIA does not need or want you.

Ms. Fiorina ought to take a seat on the barn floor. She ran HP into the ground and shipped thousands of job away from the US and now she wants to be part of a solution? I think not.

BOTH of them are equally lame demon sheep.

We should remember how much HP paid Ms Fiorina to stop being their CEO. It was a lot, and HP's business and share value grew significantly afterward.

Even if CEOs made good governors, which they typically don't, this would not be a good sign of future success.

My concerns regarding her livestock fixation can wait for another day.

I always thought Carly was a bonehead ever since she used to do punditry for McCain's campaign. Here's the proof. Not that there was much doubt.

Republicans: Please leave California. Your childish pranks and bitter actions aren't wanted here! Move to South Carolina and join all their loonies. You'll fit right in with the Joe Wilson and Jim Dimwit(Demint) crowds!

Couldn't care less who wins the GOP primary as the candidate will likely lose in the election, but glad to see that even the GOP can't stomach Fiorina's pseudo-shogun CEO blather. Well-manicured and armed with a headset microphone she's a nightmare from a Dilbert cartoon - she who talks loud and says nothing. A pointwoman for the bloated, bogus managerial culture that has destroyed our economy and aggressively redistributed workers' wages to the have-mores. Good riddance.

Love it when republicans eat their own! Unfortunately, its Americans who are being fleeced when candidates, of either party, return to the infamous days of yesteryear ... when karl rove and his nasty tactics replaced honest debate on the issues.

Remember the whispering campaign about McCain's "black baby" that SC republicans believed which gave us Bush not McCain in 2000. Remember the lies about McCain's "mental stability" because he was a POW – from people who never served? This helps our country how???

Here is the former CEO who pocketed millions as she ran HP into the ground and laughed all the way to the bank. Would you trust her with your tax dollars. If your smart you will make sure you give her the big boot in the back side and tell her to make sure the door doesn't hit her on the way out.
She is a self center thief who will only look out for herself and how much she can fill her pockets.

If either of you are incumbents you need not worry. You are going out. We honest Americans are taking our country back.. "IN GOD WE DO TRUST". Goodbye ACLU and other socialist organizations. Federal Judges that passed on the anti Christianity laws like " In God We Do Trust.," get ready to give up you judgeships.

I think the people that this woman wants to contact with this ad are not going to connect with her at all. It is stupid. It is creepy. It doesn't give a person a sense of what the Hades she is talking about. I think it is going to turn more of the republican she is trying to reach off, than those that will rally round her. Creepy creepy creepy. And that sheep with the red eyes. WOW...Don't let your kids see it.

I'm definitely against this kind of campaigning but the Republicans have asked for it by acting like sheep, herding together to be the "party of No" They don't seem to be able to think for themselves. They are carbon copies of each other and if they have any ideas or plans for the nations future, where are they? I read everything available, watch the news and political shows and I still know nothing that has come forth from the Repubicans. I s there a brain out there somewhere?.What are you hiding?

Has anyone else ever noted that Republicans don't seem capable of anything except criticism and opposition? They sure flubbed it while in the leadership role....

California is done for. Get out while you still can! Just don't come to Colorado. We have too many Californians already. I suggest Wyoming or Texas.
