President Obama to throw bipartisan Super Bowl party

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/05/art.obama.helmet.gi.jpg caption="President Obama will host a Super Bowl party this weekend at the White House."](CNN) - President Obama will hold his second bipartisan Super Bowl party this weekend, his aides announced Friday morning.

It will be a much smaller affair than last year when more than 75 people gathered to watch the game at the White House theater. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said about 40 people altogether are invited Sunday to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

White House aides say House and Senate lawmakers, both Democratic and Republican, representing competing states on behalf of the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts have been invited. So far those who've accepted the invitations include Indiana Democratic Reps. Andre Carson, Baron Hill, and Brad Ellsworth, and Louisiana Republican Rep. Joseph Cao. Military service members who've been injured fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan will also be guests, along with their spouses and children.

Gibbs says the White House will put out a more complete list of attendees later in the day.

Last year the president hosted fans of the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers. Guests that year told CNN the president went walking from room to room serving them brownies and oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies. Also on last year's menu: hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, chips and salsa, soft pretzels, hot fudge ice cream and pizza.

Anyone who thinks Obama is the hardest working president has no concept of reality. Just because he reads what the teleprompter tells him to say well, doesn't mean he's working hard. He's done absolutely nothing to "save" this country. As a matter of fact, pretty much all of the decisions he's made so far have made this recession worse (and in case you forgot, the recession didn't start until the Democrats took over Congress in 2006). Obama will go down as one of the worst presidents in the last 100 years, and also for the record – polls show almost 50% of people would prefer George W. Bush as president right now rather than Obama. I can't wait to help get some of these Hoosier Obama butt kissing reps like Brad Ellsworth thrown out of office in November.

dear annie against biased news, the report lists those who have accepted the invitation. My guess is some republicans instinctively said no to the president before they even heard the full invitation.

Think about the cost we would incur if our President Obama went in person to the SuperBowl; Airforce 1, security on the ground traveling to the game, secuirty all during the game, security, security. Now you people complaining about a 6 pack of beer, snacks and media coverage of the game along with a few invites just like the rest of us sitting at home that can't afford to go. Please give me a break.

    @ VernisRobertson-

Typical Obama supporter...can't put an argument together that doesn't use race. Stupidity clearly knows no color – just look at the Commander in Chief and Harry Reid.

Oh great. A bi-partisan superbowl party. Too bad he couldn't throw a bi-partisan construction party for a health care bill.

LOL. I think the comments here are representative of how successful any bipartisan attempt can be in this political climate. Still, the President has to try something...

The cynicism on both sides is overwhelming. The conservatives spew bile and vitriol because they cannot afford a basic respect to people who do not think as they do. Liberals respond with an unfortunate, albeit justifiable condescension.

Funny thing is, the guest at Obama's Super Bowl party will be looking at each other the same way. He won't be able to just enjoy a football game for at least 2 more years.

I really don't see what can be done about the divisiveness the President has to deal with right now. My last blog article was about that subject and it went on for 6 pages. It's a very complex topic.

I hope he has a good time!

The Rethuglican'ts won't be coming! They have a country to RUIN!

President Obama has been in Washington more time in his FIRST YEAR than EX-Vice-President Bush (Cheeney was THE ONE running that show) was in Washington his WHOLE TWO TERMS.

And, did you folks know that the EX-Vice-PRES Bush has a GEOTHERMAL house in Texas? I guess Alternative Energy is ONLY FOR the EX-President and NOT for the rest of the country.

You racists, haters and fill in the blanks are pathetic. We have a great President and you complain because he will be doing what 100 million Americans are doing on Sunday and that is watching the Super Bowl. You so-called Christians don't forget to go to church and Pray that God will forgive your hateful ways. Other Presidents watched the Super Bowl and you kept you hateful mouths shut. I am so glad that you haters are in the minority becuase real Americans respect our President and each other. Have a Blessed weekend and GO COLTS.

The amount of stupid in this thread is just staggering. To think that the most powerful communications platform in the history of the world has basically been turned into a forum for whiny, butthurt conservatives who have declared Obama the "worst president ever" (apparently having conveniently forgotten the moron who last lived on Pennsylvania Ave., and dim-witted liberal buffoons who can't finish a whole sentence critical of the President without rushing to their keyboards to whine about how that's just "racist Racist RAAAAAAACIST!"

They should require a license to use the Internet.

@ Fitz in Texas....... Please give us the SOURCE of your information on the Stimulus. Where did these numbers come from?

BTW George W. Bush spent $3 TRILLION in Iraq, a war started with LIES, a war that did not need to happen!

PS. When Bush took office, Clinton left him a BUDGET SURPLUS!

    Bipartisanship is BS! Why pretend?

Treat the party of no & later like the ocean pirates - sock it to them with reconciliation!

In the SB, you don't want to be the runner up!

The president must not like the superbowl, because most of us don't invite people who hate us to the party. No matter what gestures he offers, republicans aren't going to work with him. He would be better served inviting more democrats to the party, bond with them, get them in line and get to work.

Maybe someone at the bash will teach our illustrous Commander-In-
Chief how to pronounce the title Navy Corpsman. At a town meeting, he pronounced the military title Corpse-man not once, but 3 times. None of you liberal, left-wing news sources would dare touch this major and scary lack of knowledge concerning our military by the man who is the supreme commander of our military. Had this been Bush, you would hear the so-called network news reporters railing on about it for months. Mu definition of a Corpse-man would be a dead person or a person who tends Corpses. What a joke of a pretender! Since this is CNN, I doubt you will dare allow this post.

Trish (and everyone that agrees with her), I feel for you and understand the pain. Republicans had to listen to these same attacks on them for eight years. Bad karma sucks, huh? However, sometimes you just need to own up to the fact that the guy you voted for is a schmuck.
