Tancredo opens Tea Party Convention with a bang

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/05/art.tancredo.gi.jpg caption="Tom Tancredo opened what's being billed as the first Tea Party Convention with a bang."]Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) – Tom Tancredo opened what's being billed as the first Tea Party Convention with a bang.

The former congressman from Colorado and 2008 Republican presidential candidate blasted President Obama, saying "people who could not even spell the word 'vote', or say it in English, put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama."

Tancredo made his comments as he gave the kickoff speech for the convention, which is being held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville.

Tancredo's speech received polite applause among the 600 attendees at the convention.

"So the race for America is on right now. The president and his left-wing allies in Congress are going to look at every opportunity to destroy the Constitution before we have a chance to save it. So put your running shoes on. Because I'll tell you, I've heard we need a revolution. My friends, we already had it. We lost. I mean, what happened to us in that last election was a revolution," said Tancredo, discussing the 2008 presidential contest.

Tancredo also slammed that election's Republican presidential nominee, saying "thank God John McCain lost the election."

The former congressman known for his strong opposition to illegal immigration also attacked "the cult of multiculturalism, aided by leftists, liberals all over who don't have the same idea about America as we do."

A spokesman for the Tea Party Nation, the group that organized the convention, said Tancredo's speech may provide some red meat but termed it problematic.

"It doesn't further the dialogue," said Mark Skoda, a businessman and founder of the Memphis Tea Party, who is also serving as spokesman for the convention.

Tancredo ended his speech telling the crowd that "this is our country" and urged them "to take it back."

Independents made the difference in the election, if this guy paints them as ignorant, then good luck with the movement. If these people believe that Obama can destroy the Constitution, then it would appear to me that they do not know how to spell vote either.

I can spell vote, and I can say it in English. I have some native American heritage. I'm southern born and as white as you can get. I voted for Barack Obama because he more sense than anyone else in the election. It is because of people like Tom Tancredo that this country is in the condition that is in. We were Bush Wacked for eight years. The rich got richer, and the middle class and poor got nothing, but poorer.

Compared to the Founding Fathers who were extreme left wing in their time President Obama is centrist or slightly left leaning for our time. This is everyone's country, not the Tea Partiers only, but the spiritual decants of the Founding Fathers, the framers of the founding documents, are the most left wing among us.

Gee, I wonder why Mr. Tancredo felt the need to remind a crowd of the President's middle name? I mean, I never hear anyone say George Herbert Walker Bush, or William Jefferson Clinton, or Ronald Wilson Reagan. Hell, no one even gives Grover Cleveland's first name, Stephen. So why does a crowd have to be notified that our president has a Muslim middle name? I can only speculate, but I think its safe to assume he didn't mean anything polite by it. I applaud Mr. Tancredo's class.

The election wasn't a revolution, it was simply kicking the incompetent Republicans to the side of the road. Talk about sore losers.

So how would we feel if we were completely overrun by foreigners, who ignored our immigration policies, began rewriting our constitution, systematically claimed our land as their own, forced us to adjust fully to a new culture, and then left us without any means of survival, while we desparately sought to attempt to reclaim our identity as Americans over the course of more than a century?

    Ask any Native American.

Mr. Tancredo, if those same people you claim cannot spell "vote" or speak english(many probably from the state you represented)had voted for you, that would have been just fine. But since they did not play the game your way or the way of the GOP, you want to take your toys and go home. No wonder so many people are trying to start what you call a revolution-you're all acting like children who want to do everything that suits you as individuals rather than what might be better for the masses. I'm not for giving everything away for free, but I'm also not so selfish that I think government and it's people can't give a hand through better regulated programs that cut fraud and help those most in need. Can you justify the big bonuses being handed out on Wall Street? Can we afford to keep letting the middle class majority of our great nation drown?
If you and the tea party followers want less government, buy a deserted island and move there and set yourselves up in the lap of luxury first come first served.

I hate to challenge the myth that you are attempting to perpetuate former Congressman, but I am an American-born, white, politically-independent college professor who voted for President Obama. I know intelligence, thoughtfulness, patience, competence, patriotism (I have a son in the US Marine Corp who served in Iraq), ethics, and compassion when I see it. I, and millions of other citizens, voted for the best person to lead our country out of financial and social crisis. Stop the sleazy political bad-mouthing that is drumming up harmful stereotypes, and purposely instituting division among citizens of this great nation. Perhaps you can learn a thing or two about leadership, patriotism, and dignity from our President.

The man is right. So many people voted for the teleprompter and did not pay attention to the fact he is a radical that wants to remake our Country into a Socialist paradise. Try as you like liberals but 2010 and 2012 America will right itself.

more lies from the Obama Administration. Unemployment did not drop, it grew, look at the jobs market, look at the businesses that closed, look at the unemployment claims. If you believe the Obama government you are as gulible and slow as a snail. Obama and his group will lie to get their agenda passed. It is time for all Americans to revolt against Obama and his pack of Liers and take back our country. These idiots works for us and they need to be fired. All Lies from Obama, Pelosi and Reid. They must go. Impeach Obama and fire the rest.
