[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/07/art.palincu0207.gi.jpg caption="As Sarah Palin marks her birthday, a new national poll indicates that 7 out of 10 Americans feel that she is not qualified to be president."]Washington (CNN) - As Sarah Palin marks her birthday, a new national poll indicates that 7 out of 10 Americans feel that she is not qualified to be president.

According to an ABC News/Washington Post survey, 71 percent of the public say the former Alaska governor is not qualified to serve in the White House, with 26 percent saying the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is qualified to be president. The 26 percent who say Palin is qualified is down 12 points from an ABC News/Washington Post poll from November.

Twenty-eight percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey from November indicated that Palin was qualified, with 7 in 10 feeling she was not qualified to be president.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll, released Thursday morning as Palin marks her 46th birthday, also indicates that even a majority of Republicans now view Palin as not qualified to serve as commander-in-chief. According to the survey, 45 percent of conservatives see her as qualified, down 21 points from last November.

The survey also indicates that 37 percent of Americans have a favorable view of her, with 55 percent holding an unfavorable view. According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey from last month, 43 percent of the public had a favorable opinion and 46 percent had an unfavorable view of Palin.

The poll was conducted February 4-8, as Palin gave the keynote address in Nashville, Tennessee, at what was billed as the first national Tea Party convention. The survey indicates that Americans are split on the Tea Party movement, with 35 viewing the movement in a favorable way, 4 in 10 holding an unfavorable impression, and a quarter of those questioned unsure about the year old movement. A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey conducted last month indicated that 4 in 10 were unsure, with one-third holding a favorable view and one quarter having an unfavorable view of the Tea Party movement.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll indicates that 45 percent generally agree with the movement's small government positions on the issues, with 36 percent disagreeing and 1 in 5 unsure.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by telephone, with 1,004 adults questioned. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

If 71 percent of those polled feel she is unqualified to be President and if the majority of Republicans polled feel she is unqualified to be President then why all the hoopla and media circus attention to this woman? Even her disjointed, off-message and almost impossible to follow trains of thought are not even entertaining, let alone informative. Could we just move on to a subject that is newsworthy and let this woman go back to Alaska and take care of her family – and whatever else it is that she does?

Why would anyone think that she is qualified to be president, she has little knowledge of how the government works, she lacks foreign affairs and geography knowledge. Furthermore she can't name a book or news paper that she reads, to top it all she quit her job as a first ternm governor when things got rough and she decided she needed to make a lot more money instead, Who in the world would want a nit-wit like that to be the President of the USA, the most important job and person in this world!!

Will somebody please tell me who writes her speeches? Where this woman go to school?

Palin's on her comedy tour? I hope I can score tickets. Everything this woman says is hilarious. The bit where she reads from her hands – priceless!

    Another notation:
Sarah is not going to run... She doesn't like to answer questions without being prepped on Fox news. However, she needs to be stopped spreading hatred among the American people. She is like a terrorist. Sarah is having fun by being divisive and mean-spirited without having any solutions to back up the crazy rants and one-line slogans. While along the way, trashing the President for using a teleprompter (that she used many times on the campaigned trail), Palin clearly READ her speech verbatim on the podium while having additional notes scribbled on her hand for the prepped Q&A. Is there any end to her hypocrisy?

Palin and her Teabaggers are going to fade in to oblivion. Causes based only on emotional rhetoric don't stand because there is not a foundation of facts. Facts are borne of reality and since Paling and the teabaggers have divorced themselves from reality they are both doomed.

This poll is meaningless since most Americans also feel that Obama is not qualified to be President.

It has been said that it is better to be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt. Sarah Palin didn't get that memo.

it would be interesting and more telling to know the why of the responses.

i'm betting it is more about the media construct ("she's too dumb, she's fill in the blank) than any thing real. Think about Biden, not exactly better than palin.

You mean to tell me there are 30% of people who STILL think Palin is qualified to run a n y t h i n g???, much less this country? She can't even run her own household properly. Maybe this'll mean she'll finally go away.

I'm a conservative Republican who voted for Obama in the last election: I just couldn't bring myself to vote for the Mc Cain ticket because of Palin . She's probably a decent person and certainly has an engaging personality, but, in my opinion, she lacks the intelligence, broad outlook and judgement to hold a White House slot; we can't afford (another) mediocre mind in there. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one holding that view.
In the meantime she's causing considerable harm to our party. Hope she realizes it in time and doesn't let her adoring admirers on the fringe of the party inflate her ego to the point of no return.

And according to another poll I saw on Huffingtonpost.com, the 29% that feel she's qualified, also think their states should secede from the United States. In other words, TRAITORS!

Anyone in their right mind knows full well that this half wit is in NO WAY qualified to be President.

I feel very sorry for those few people (including mean and crazy old man McCain) who think this woman is anything but a bad joke.

Go away Sarah – you are an insult to intelligent, capable women like Hillary Clinton.

Too funny. A poll to tell us what we already know! Sarah Palin is a joke. Has no idea what she is talking about 99.9% of the time. She reminds me of a Jerry Springer guest who craves even more atention. Let's see, unwed daughter, ex boyfriend of the unwed daughter doing centerfolds and TV gigs as a boytoy, a controlling husband, and she quits the only job to her credit, that of being govenor of a frozen wasteland. Gee...maybe she should get a show on cable. The camera could pan to her opening the door of her trailor, smiling and winking as she reads her hand. The hubby in over-alls screaming to get him a beer, the daughter barefoot and pregnant again holding the baby and the ex-boyfriend wearing a g-string while smoking a joint. Go lay down Sarah...you're whole act is tired. So are we.

Is it really a surprise that 71% of Americans do not feel as though Palin is qualified to be President, people are coming around and realize she is an "Idiot" blowhard and just tries to talk a good talk and she cannot do that! I wish along with most Americans you all would quit reporting on anything she has to say, because when she does say anything you can bet it is a "Lie", the truth is not in her and never will be!
