Cheney and Cheney team up at CPAC

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/18/art.cheney.cpac.gi.jpg caption="Dick Cheney made a surprise appearance Thursday at CPAC."]Washington (CNN) - Former Vice President Dick Cheney earned a standing ovation Thursday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, proclaiming "Barack Obama is a one term president."

Cheney, who was not scheduled to appear, received a warm welcome from the unsuspecting crowd and joked, "A welcome like that is almost enough to make me want to run for office again ... but I'm not going to do it."

During his brief remarks, the former vice president focused on recent Republican electoral success and the future of the conservative movement.

"There are some great years ahead of us. It is very, very important that we succeeed, and I'll do everything I can, but most especially I want to encourage that younger generation," Cheney said. "It really is a remarkable time to be a conservative."

The former vice president was introduced by his daughter Liz Cheney, a former State Department official and founding member of the group Keep America Safe. Liz Cheney used her time at the podium to launch a series of biting critiques of Obama administration policies.

"In the year that President Obama has been in office we have learned a lot, haven't we?" Cheney asked the audience. "We've learned he is not going to govern from the center, we've learned he doesn't believe in American exceptionalism, and he is going to travel the world apologizing for this great nation."

Cheney also singled out Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Obama homeland security and counterterrorism adviser John Brennan over their handling of Al Qaeda in Yemen, saying "there is no polite way to put this, but that kind of incompetence gets people killed."

All the tough talk can't disguise the fact that this draft dodger and the rest of his crew dropped the ball and let 9/11 happen ON THEIR WATCH. Americans are not stupid and will long remember how they lied about WMDs in Iraq and needlessly wasted thousands of American lives and billions of dollars over there. Obama has done more in a year to keep the country safe than the Bush Administration did in 8.

All they can do is criticize–I dont see any suggestions on how to improve things–seems to be a common problem the far right has.

Maybe if Cheney really did something for this country instead of running it into the ground he would have something worth listening to.

The President has to apologize for the mistakes of the last administration. We do need the world to work with us. He has to mend fences before he can build bridges. Anyone who believes otherwise is a self-centered fool. Cheney can huff and he can puff but only he and his ilk can destroy America's future by continuing to divide us, all in the name of politics, and not for the good of America.

The reason President Obama is traveling the world, "apologizing for this great nation," Ms. Cheney, neé Vader, is that your father, and his boss, did so much damage on their own they isolated us at a time when it's clear globalization is here and we can no longer act without thinking of the consequences of our actions. How nice it must be for you and your father, Ms. Cheney, to be able to take pot shots from your comfortable, white, conservative bark-o-loungers.

Ouch... I'm worry that people actually still pay attention to this guy! Truly a scary individual. He is everything that has become the main problem with this country. He continually focuses on his hateful agenda. Compassion is his arch-nemesis even more than the President of the United States!

Do you not remember the past Cheney? Your past? Your administration's past? How convenient for you to forget that George W Bush announced to the world that apprehended terrorists were cooperating and being generous with information. What of the lives threatened by those announcements? Where was your public criticism of the "incompetence" then? And for Liz, your idea of center is as far right as the eye can see. Liars like yourself have 0 credibility and should keep their nonsensical ideas to themselves.

Well Liz is riding her father curtail because without her fathers last name, she would be just another republican big mouth. Liz thinks she knows anything about national security. She forgets that her father was Vp when the worst terrorist attack occured in America. And she is also forgetting that her father was also responsible for wasting trillions of dollars of tax payers money on war that we didnt need to be in. She is also forgetting that before Obama due her fathers policies and Bushs policy, our deficit grew large. She is also forgetting that he and Bush left behind a 9+ trillion national deficit. So lets see, The worst attack on American soil happened under Bush/Cheney. Trillions spent and thousands of lifes lost under Bush and Cheney.

"I want to encourage that younger generation," Cheney said???!!!
This guy is clueless when it comes to anyone younger than 70! Look around at the CPAC crowd; that'll show you the face of conservatives today–angry and bitter that they can't torture anymore, pollute the entire planet, give massive tax breaks to the top 1%, and start immoral wars around the world. Yes, Obama is having to clean up the mess here and abroad that Cheney and Bush left after their 8-year reign of stupidity and criminality. Uh, excuse me, Cheney, but 911 was under ~your~ watch. Don't blame the current Homeland Security leaders for some underwear bomber that you created. Cheney is truly out of touch, misinformed, and lying whenever he opens his mouth.

So much for the supposed conservative respect for the Constitution. Dick Cheney is a disgrace. If Liz Cheney wants to tout "American exceptionalism" then maybe she ought to have a talk with her dad about his attempts to shred the document that once made us the world leader in enlightened self-governance, to the chagrin of tyrants, zealots and demagogues everywhere - you know, the sort of people the GOP now calls its' base. Or, worse, its' leadership.

That is the only place that Dick Cheney is welcome.
He needs to be in prison for all the torture.
Keep on wishing that president Obama will be one term president.
Republicans have a long long ways to go before they get into power again.
I use to be a republican but Bush and Cheney took care of that.
    I wouldn't vote for a republican again.

..."there is no polite way to put this, but that kind of incompetence gets people killed."

Funny, that's exactly what history is likely to say about the incompetent administration of which he was a part. Is he kidding with this crap? I know the Cheneys are not stupid people, so I can only conclude they are being either disingenuous (to be most kind about it) or are just lying for personal and political benefit.

Cheney continues to be an absolute scoundrel. Bearing a close resemblance to the Emperor from the Star Wars movies, this thug, who is part of a legacy associated with one of the worst presidents in our history, has a lot of nerve criticizing Obama. Eight years of Bush has caused considerable damage to our nation and it amazes me that the narcissistic is still unwilling to take any responsibility for all of our current problems. What’s even more galling is that for 8 years he never uttered a word out of that crroked smile and now you can’t shut the guy up.
