Bachmann says Obama leading America into decline

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/19/art.bachmann.file.gi.jpg caption="Rep. Michele Bachmann blasted President Obama's economic policies Friday."](CNN) - Rep. Michele Bachmann blasted President Obama's economic policies Friday and declared he is leading America into a state of "decline" during her 30-minute speech before conservative activists.

"I want to discuss a topic that's been on my heart a lot lately…decline in America," the Minnesota Republican told the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference. "The concept that has been coming to me over the last few weeks is that the joy of being an American is that we get to choose…our destiny, whether it's decline or it's greatness."

Citing conservative writer Charles Krauthammer, Bachmann said the president has indicted "America for arrogance, decisiveness, divisiveness toward Europe, for maltreatment toward natives, for torture, for Hiroshima, for Guantanamo Bay, for unilateralism, and for insufficient respect for the Muslim world."

"I think we are all going to need a self-esteem course or two after that litany and we can't blame anyone for feeling despondent in the midst of all that," Bachmann quipped. "Decline happens, even to a great nation."

Bachmann also took aim at Democratic efforts at health care reform and cap-and-trade policies designed to combat global warming during her red-meat speech, saying such measures will keep the country's economy on "an unsustainable path."

"We are looking at serious long-term damage to the economy and the well being of our people. We really need to sober up…the only people with the power to change this very bad diagnosis is President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Harry Reid," Bachmann said. "I wonder what the odds are in Vegas of that happening."

Hey Bachmann, where were you during the Bush years?

Obama is pulling us out of an era of debauchery. If you weren't so self absorbed you would realize the truth to fact that Republican Policies don't work.

Get some therapy Bachmann, than take up another hobby. Politics are beyond your capacities.

Actually Michele, I have to blame people who vote repeatedly for the likes you for the "decline" of our great nation. You know the type... The kind that fail to think for themselves and can't be bothered to see through the contradictory bs you spew day in and day out. The one thing Republicans are good at is marketing, but that's not saying too much, given how foolish some of the American "consumers" are.. Kind of sad...

Please Michelle, enough already. You have had enough press coverage and sound bytes that you can resign now "to spend more time with your family" and get richer by writing books full of the same old conservative boilerplate and getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to give speaches to groups devoted to the cult of conservatism.

Bachmann suffers from lip to butt dysfunction...She craps out of her mouth and talks out of her butt. Typical of all Rip-publicans and Tea baggbers.

We can blame all lying rip-publicans for all of Americas troubles. They are lying scumbags... who just say NO NO NO NO NO

Little miss sweety, George W Bush was the one who started the wall street bailout if you remember. McCain even flew back to Washington to help during his campaign. What part of this are the republicans having such a hard time understanding? Are they really that stupid that they cannot get it in their thick heads that we are in this situation because of their failed leadership for the last 8 years? I think they all must be morons, or drank stupid KoolAid.

President Obama is leading America into a state of decline?? Where was this woman between 2000 – 2008 when government debt grew at a record pace because taxes were cut for the wealthiest Americans while simultaneously waging 2 wars? Where was her outrage when the financial markets and the economy nearly collapsed due to many of the policies that she and her fellow republicans enacted? She didn't seem to be too concerned about America then!!

Her remarks as usual are inflammatory but have little substance. There appears to be a huge vacuum between her ears. I'm so thankful that she doesn't represent my congressional district.

So the Republicans cause the country to go into decline over 8 years of horrible government.

Obama and the Democrats point out that some of those same decline-causing decisions were bad.

And the conclusion is that what causes decline aren't actual decisions, but talking about those decisions?

It's a great system when you can lead the country into problems and then call the other guy unpatriotic when he points out the problems that the country is now and doesn't just rant about its greatness.

Bachmann is an idiot. Did she not see what happened when W was in office?

When are you going to stop being part of the problem and become part of the solution? You want America to go down the drain because you care for no one but yourself, and so you create chaos (like Rush Limbaugh).

I agree wholeheartedly. What has been said about this great land in the form of apologizing to everybody in every country visited by our current President is degrading and disrespectful of our great Nation. I think Merle Haggard said it best,"when you're running our country down, you're on the fighting side of me". November 2010 will correct part of the problem, 2012 will finish the job. Never again.

What is Her agenda. If the far right Republicans can not Recall the eight long years it took while they were in Power. While a republican President held the office. 8 years of digging this hole. Now they Know what and what not to do. 8 years of white house Parties and socials. And wars we ought not of been part of. 8 years of let them eat cake government. The flares and warning from Michele bachmann and many others on a mission. What is that mission. To ruin the turn of power back to them. Its a mission they are hell bent on. This County and it People are the ones who will lose. We will blindly eat the cheese of fear and be lead back to a Country that can not grow because of misplaced fear.

Bachmann said the president has indicted:
"America for arrogance, decisiveness, divisiveness toward Europe, for maltreatment toward natives, for torture, for Hiroshima, for Guantanamo Bay, for unilateralism, and for insufficient respect for the Muslim world."

Can we be honest with ourselves Michelle??? Believe me, the rest of the world already knows these things about us. The president did this country a great service by acknowledging our shortcomings. Yes, we are human and as a nation we have shortcomings.....

I do not feel like he is causing us to slip into decline by acknowledging our shortcomings, but instead has reduced the level of hostility towards us by doing so...

BTW, all of the great empires before who could not acknowledge their mistakes DID fail...

  23. ThinkAgain

Bachmann is a typical conservative, so-called "Christian" who thinks she's above being accountable.

Personally, I don't have a problem admitting my mistakes, learning from them and moving forward.

Bachmann, however, belongs to the GOP, who, after taking our country down the toilet with 8 years of Bush & Company, whines and complains that they are now (deservedly) out of power.

Since all Bachmann and the GOP can only offer our country tried-and-failed economic, military and foreign, they resort to hate, fear, lies, division and intolerance.
