Gingrich's warning

(CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday that the left is "antithetical to the survival of America."

"I believe we are now in a struggle over whether or not we are going to save America," Gingrich said. "I believe the radical left is a secular, socialist machine so dedicated to values destructive of America that if it is allowed to remain in power…that machine is antithetical to the survival of America as a prosperous healthy country. "

We, on the left, simply don't want to save the type of America that conservatives envision. We'd rather progress.

First, nice beautiful words to say about those YOU claim that doesn't want to work with you...
Second, considering that you are a man who proved to live with two sets of measurement and weights (the harsher one for the others, the lighter one for you and your buddies), why do WE should listen to a publicly proven HYPOCRITE?

A republican forcing fear down the throats of Americans. My goodness, some things never change and obviously Newt is referencing straight from the "Book of Cheney."

I am sure you are wrong. Please try to be objective and stop just scaring people. Obama is not socialist – he is honest , brave and is fighting for the country overall, not just poor people or rich people, because now is about all people – The economy is too important for all.

Same old rear and hate with well balanced portion of ignorance and arrogance. What a slimey reptile of self-righteous puss he is.
He can't wait to wage another "Contract on American" once again.

So much for working together and offering "ideas" to help our nation. Looks like the GOP has gone back to the tactic of "Fear and Smear" that they used in 2008.

    Hopefully Americans see through this.

ol newt was in rare form. How scary can these people get. Health care for everyone? More Trasparency? A greener planet/ and getting out of the two wars we are in is a problem for him. More openness toward other religions and life styles.Gee sounds like an improvement to me from the single vision old white guy christian rich (i have mine so screw you ) attitude we have seen from the party of No. They don't mind regulating government if is something they believe in.

What is America? How do you define it? Power in the hands of the top 5%? America is whatever you want it to be, because America means freedom. I think America means a fair chance for everyone no matter how rich or poor they are. The GOP consists of an equal mixture or the rich, the ignorant, and the ignorant rich.

I'm sorry but weren't any of these people paying attention to what happened to this country when the "conservatives" were running it? Oh right, these people who want to convince us of the grave peril the country faces from the "liberal left" are the same ones who insisted Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and was responsible for 9/11. Very trustworthy. Can't wait for them to be back in charge so they can finish what they started – selling us off to the highest bidder.

Nothing new under the sun. In 1964 Johnson unleashed the "Daisy" TV ad (little girl counting flower pedals, missile countdown, followed by a nuclear explosion). In 1984 Mondale tried something similar (children, missiles, nuclear war) – indicating a vote for Reagan would be the destruction of the U.S. (and the world).

Each side gets hyper-dramatic and exaggerates (to pump up fear – if you get people afraid, they'll be less likely to focus on the flaws in your logic).

Problem is, with all this "The Sky is falling if you vote for the other side" every time we turn around, it's like the boy who cried wolf. When the real danger comes, we'll be too cynical to see it.

Mr. Gingrich is playing an old fear-mongering tune (and like rats to a pied piper, there will be those who will follow – both sides have their pied pipers, sadly).

I know that democrats hate Newt Gingrich because he spearheaded the republican surge in congress during the Clinton administration. But, the truth is that he would be a great president.

He understands the Constitution and is willing to stick by it. Also, he is very knowledgeable and already a great leader. It would be awesome to have a Gingrich/Romney ticket (or Romney Gingrich).

Warning: Just as the democrats have become the party of arrogance, I hope that republicans learn from past mistakes and remember the "we the people" aspect of being elected.

newt is encouraging violence with that statement. besides it being highly inaccurate, irresponsible and insincere (some1 of his experience can not possible believe his fundamentalist rhetoric) , it is code for taking matters into ones own hands. there are ppl reading/hearing this who 2nite believe he is calling for them to physically stop "socialists" who pose a threat to americas existence. not if, but WHEN a right wing person inflicts violence on the president, congress person or citizen who is clearly democratic, remember this moment

Why is it that everything they say and do is geared towards frightening people. They don't try to lift anyone up or point out the good side of things it is always doom and gloom. That tells me a lot about them and their character.

What are these people talking about? Who is the "radical left?" Since when is " secular" synonymous with evil? And what "values" is the left actually out to destroy? It is a fundamental constitutional principle, enshrined in the first amendment, that there will be a separation between church and state. The country was established in direct reaction to the kind of tyrrany that can exist in a theocracy. Gingrich knows that well, and he never used to spout this sort of stuff.

So Gingrich thinks that the "socialist" Obama will destroy America, does he? Has he forgotten already that it was the values of the Republicans that drove America in the financial ditch just over a year ago? Meanwhile, more "socialist" countries like Canada and France are doing much better than America in terms of their debt load, their health care system, their educational systems...the list goes on. And if America doesn't free itself from its privatized health care system, it will be offically bankrupt by 2020. And who is stopping America from fixing the sytem? The Republicans. It is Republican values and policies that have put America at risk. It was the "socialist" stimulus package that prevented the American economy from going completely off the cliff. Blaming "socialism" for America's woes is bizzare, to say the least.

Speaking of a "...machine so dedicated to values destructive of America that if it is allowed to remain in power…that machine is antithetical to the survival of America as a prosperous healthy country." Sounds like the deed has already been done, Newt. Bush/Cheney saw to that – the largest expansion of government since – I don't know when – and all of that was on your party's watch in the WH. I'm not liking Obama much either these days. Maybe it's time to take a different approach. Maybe the real socialists have a point – the system is broken. It needs to be rebuilt.

Fear mongering seems to be the only trick Gingrich has to play these days.

Things were not so terrific when Bush was in office. And if you want to talk about the denegration of America and values look no further than the eight years of Bush in office. We saw Wall Street smack middle America to the ground, corporate crooks like Madolf slide under the radar and millions of Americans lose the competitive edge amongst foreign commerce.

Between Gingrich and Palin and their doomsday predictions why get out of bed if the world is coming to an end?

For all of those who are so afraid of government being overly involved in the lives of American citizens a quick read through the Old Testament reveals that God has dominion and power over all rulers and principalities.......don't you think God wants our government to be a safety net for those on the fringes. After all we are his children and if the governments are HIS I would guess he would want some compassion for those down and out. No where in scripture does God say to "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" or "God helps those who help themselves".

We are becoming a mean spirited society. At any time we can lose our health, home, job and family. How many families have been spared shelling out all of their savings to pay for a parent to undergo expensive surgery at age 70 but were spared because of medicare? Who will build our bridges, the church? Who will enforce a safe food supply? The church? Who will watch over our relationships with foreign nations? The church? I am a Christian and yet I know that the church can not be everything for everyone.

I don't like excessive government. Can't there be a balance that brings citizens to the table to problem solve and not point fingers of blame? Fear is such a base emotion.......and it polarizes. It is such a tired tactic. Shall we move on to the real issues please?

    Save America from what exactly?
Seriously, Conservatives and Republicans act as if America will forever disappear or something. Nothing more than crybabies because they're not in power. This is why Americans won't have the plans that will help this country and everyone, because the parties are so divided that one side refuses to help with anything. Stop blaming the President for everything he hasn't done that happen years back! Look at the people in the house and senate seats who refuse to take their job serious.

Oh my God. So unless you're a right wing very Conservative Christian who only votes Republican, you aren't an American. We're back to this again? Why oh why is the Republican party and the far right of America SO full of hatred? Truly, talk like Newt's is divisive and vile. He's welcome to say it, but hopefully few people will listen to him. These far right folk just can't accept losing. Now they even have groups as frightening as Oath Keepers who call on military and police to vow to refuse orders if they don't agree with them or the person giving them. They are calling for VIOLENT overthrow of the United States Government and a revolution to impose their un-democratic will on the nation, and no one calls them on it. The media just take dictation from this bunch. Disgusting.
