Thompson tweet takes on Reid comment

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/24/art.getty.fred.thompson.jpg caption="A spokesman for Harry Reid called Thompson's comments 'unfortunate.'"]Washington (CNN) - Former presidential candidate Fred Thompson suggested Wednesday that Sen. Harry Reid might engage in domestic abuse if he fails to win re-election in November.

In a posting on Twitter, Thompson wrote, "Reid: Jobless men = domestic abuse. Is he saying we should be worried about Mrs. Reid after the November elections?"

Thompson's comment comes days after Reid discussed the correlation between unemployment and domestic abuse on the Senate floor.

"I have met with some people at home, dealing with domestic abuse," Reid said on Monday. "It has gotten out of hand. Why? Men don't have jobs. Women don't have jobs either but women aren't abusive, most of the time. Men, when they are out of work, tend to become abusive."

Reid defended his comments Tuesday when questioned by reporters.

"There is no question that more people being out of work causes more people to be involved in domestic violence," said Reid. "I mean I didn't make that up, I was told that by two people who run domestic violence shelters."

Reid spokesman Jim Manley called Thompson's comments "unfortunate" in an e-mail to CNN.

"While Fred Thompson may think he was being funny, it is unfortunate and disappointing that so many on the right would make light of domestic abuse."

Thompson's political action committee did not respond to numerous requests for comment from CNN.

Ha Ha Ha! That Boy, I say, that boy Fred, may look like Foghorn Leghorn, but he has less substance than the cartoon character. What a friggin' moron the people of Tennessee have to make excuses for.

Reid has to be the dumbest politician of the last 50 years.

This guy is a walking Sound Byte. The sad part is that Dems are so brainwashed they allow this idiot to get away with ridiculous comments.

It would be really fun to get Reid and Biden drunk in a room with a hidden camera. Listening to their off-color comments would be internet gold.

Way to go Thompson, the biggest looser of the presidential candidates, turning a serious issue into a joke. Typical rethuglicans always rewording people's words.

I do believe Men get frustrated easily and take it out on somebody, usually the closes human, which is the wife/kids. My dad was abusive to my mom and I seen him hit her in front of me many times. We need to teach kids at a young age to be different. We should teach little boys how to control their anger. Teaching them in elementary school and beyond will help tremendously. We should also teach little girls how to defend themselves with martial arts. From elementary to high school! Who is with me?!?!

No one is joking about domestic abuse. What Dingy Harry said in the first place was wrong and really trivialized domestic abuse. So, do we have to worry about Mrs. Reid when Dingy Harry becomes unemployed after the November elections or don't we? What is it?

We need not listen to Thompson and his vitriol. I think he demonstrated quite well in his past campaign that anything he says is pretty worthless. And now this senseless statement coming from a man who can't harness the energy to effectively run his own campaign. I had thought he would have crawled under a rock by now and been long forgotten.

  18. Former Republican, now an Independent

Being a resident of Tennessee, I can assure you that Fred Thompson should not be slamming anyone in congress. Fred was a poor excuse for a senator. A man with no ideas of his own and a rubber stamp for many bad policies of the Bush administration.

Look at the prison system Mr. Thompson. What Harry Reid said is true and Thompson is just another rich Republican proving he's out of touch with unemployed Americans. People who are unemployed in fact due abuse, whether it's their families, neighbors or communities. Harry Reid may become unemployed but he won't be poor due to unemployment.

You would think that Obama and Reid would be more concerned with getting Americans back to work. The corrupt stimulous bill filled the pockets of the special interests, and may have kept some Government Bureaucrats employed, but it certainly didn't help the working people of this country who pay the salaries of those Government unionized workers that Obama and Reid kept on the job! Its all healthcare, healthcare, healthcare, as they try and push trillions and trillion in more corrupt spending and taxes. When Obama gets done with the spending and taxes we won't worry about UNEMPLOYMENT anymore because there won't be any reason to work!!!!

Well, maybe where the republicans dwell men are abusive, but where I'm from if you're out of work you spend your time looking for work. If it weren't for the previous aministrative disaster these conversations wouldn't be going on. That's it repubs...blame the democrats for everthing. Just like a bunch of children can't take responsibility for your actions. Say what you will, but for sake of argument let's say the repubs do win back a few seats hear and there; we still have a democratic president. So sit back and enjoy your poop-sandwich like the dems. did for eight years of "Retard" (Bush). And regardless of what you say, I'm still going to hit the ground and campaign hard in 2012 because Obama is a good man. I'm sorry your hatred has taken you to such a level that you can't stand it, but that's your fault or are you going to blame someone else for that too?

Another remarkable offensive statement by Reid. Remember he said Obama is a nice light skinned negro? How is it he stays Majority Leader for us Democrats. He has to go.
