White House social secretary to step down

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/26/art.desireerogers.3.gi.jpg caption="White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers will step down."]Washington (CNN) - Desiree Rogers, the White House social secretary, plans to step down, three sources familiar with the situation told CNN Friday.

Her office came under scrutiny after a couple who lacked an invitation showed up at President Barack Obama's first state dinner.

Officials with the White House and the administration, as well as a colleague of Rogers, told CNN of her plans to leave.

UPDATE: In an e-mail to CNN's Suzanne Malveaux, Rogers said she is headed back to the private sector.

"It has been incredible setting the foundation for the WH for this historical Presidency," she wrote.

Read President Obama's statement after the jump.

Statement from the President and the First Lady on Desiree Rogers

“We are enormously grateful to Desiree Rogers for the terrific job she’s done as the White House Social Secretary. When she took this position, we asked Desiree to help make sure that the White House truly is the People’s House, and she did that by welcoming scores of everyday Americans through its doors, from wounded warriors to local schoolchildren to NASCAR drivers. She organized hundreds of fun and creative events during her time here, and we will miss her. We thank her again for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

- CNN's Ed Henry and John King contributed to this report

The difference is quite clear between bush and Obama ....one president lives to fight everyone and only helps himself ...taxes that benefit his family and wars that cost the middle class...while the other president (OBAMA) is smart enough to mess up toyota and now GM lives again ....smart enough to make money for Americans by the "buy American clause " smart enough to realize that having control over healthcare will make it easier for businesses to operate in America and for middle class families live a better life. American use your brains .....look at Canada they have a health care system that provides for all and altimately makes workin and living in canada cheaper ....How many families are one ailment away from bankruptcy ...go figure! How many businesses can't keep up with healthcare cost of staff in relation to rising insurance premiums. Americans think of how much you have spent on a false war over 1.5 trillion dollars ......excuse me that same amount provides universal health care for all americans. Saddam would still be alive and He would keep Iran in check like they have done for many years! America Please wake up

Alf: When was President Obama a "legal advisor to ACORN"?

You do realize, don't you, how much the Republican Party has used ACORN in the past, as a voter registration organization?

Domin– don't let the "chicken" comments both you...who cares??? people need to get over it. Thankfully, minorities have an equal chance as all of us to succeed (See Condi rice, Powell, Obama Sotomayor). People need to laugh off racist comments and not let them get to them. The racists are the obvious morons. The race card disqualifies any argument made, because it is seen as an excuse.

Wow... I find it amazing how all the Fox watchers SWARM to CNN ticker stories to comment.

Its as if they "Alert" each other with "mass emailing" telling the tebaggers where to comment.

Such unhappy people wishing for America to fail as they hope for another terrorist attack.

But then this is all they have left so .... Go Obama!!!

"When fall comes around, who in their right mind would put back the very same people that bought us the worst econmic situation since the Great Depression."

Hint: they're not in their right minds. They are angry, fearful, bigotted ideologues who lick up the GOP's demogoguery like a kitten with a bowl of cream.

Did they ever arrest the party crashers? Letting them stay free is a bigger riskto security than them getting in.
They broke the law- arrest them!

Watch out America, one of the three top racist in the country will be yelling foul on this issue. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Barrack Hussein Obama, Jr. are the leading racist in the country, and they will quickly jump on the race card every chance that they get. Forget the facts, just look to the skin color. This hope and change thing isn't working out so hot for this one term muslim prez. What a shame.............

spoken like the true racist you are. Newsflash! I'm black and Jesse Jackson nor Al Sharpton speak for me or most of black america. Now that I have taken your power base, what do you have to say? what's that? I can't hear you. I'll wait.........clown.

I really, really love my country... But it's like the people in it are either complete idiots, or wonderful &well educated. This man has stepped up to offer us his brilliance to clean up the mess the Repuplicans made...well, them and their $$ contributors on Wall Street. People! When you clean up someones elses crap, you get some on you... You Obama haters act like the stink is his fault!!!

And I promise you if Mrs. McCane were the first lady she would be dressed to the nines as well... The former CAUCASIAN first ladies started that crap! But, oh! no! Michelle Obama is supposed to shop at Wal-Mart??? Are you kidding me???!! The American people and their stupidity tick me off far more than our Government. You peolpe put Bush in the white house to begin with! Daddy Bush and Baby Bush! Twice! Now, your own stink is getting to you and like the many generations before you point to the black man and and say it's his fault...

So how many of you are going to ignore my point and just point out the fact that I refused to edit for grammer and spelling to impress the likes of a bunch of swamp-runnin', alligator wrestling bigots?

A good portion of the bloggers are racist they try to hide behind their racist feelings by speaking on the government and what President Obama , is trying to do and how he’s destroyed this country, funny how someone whose been office only 1yr and 1 month has brought some much destruction to the country before then every thing was great, YEAH RIGHT this country has been going down hill for sometime and many if NOT all the issue that he’s addressing already existed if they didn’t then why is addressing them now. No one comes into high power or entry level positions without pre-existing problems if so what is the name of employer so that I and many others can apply. I’ve never seen such hate and negative comments since he’s taken office. There were some negative comments when Bush was in office but excuses and acceptance where made for many of his decisions because he was white, Yes Black People we need to wake up and realize no matter what we aspire to be and become we are securitized because of our color and that were only excepted to raise to a certain point but do not exceed the perimeter that White America has set for you. It kills me when you have such racist people state that black people are racist and hateful. If we are don’t we have the same right as you to be racist and hateful? So were suppose to role over accept your treatment and comments and your action and think oh! Its okay that’s how were supposed to be treated and then turn around and do a jig and say Thank you. Were not suppose to interpret your comments, and action as racist and hateful, are we to believe that your comments exudes wisdom, love and care , well I hate to inform you that we interpreted your comments in the manner you expressed them, and we always interpreted your actions, and comments as they have expressed there was a time we had to grin and bare it and do a dance and say thank you, in your mind you said such stupid ignorant people with no thought of what we just said or done to them but we knew and felt that same as you.

There sure are a lot of racists here that hate people who aren't black. I am a conservative who was sorry Obama won because I don't agree with his agenda but happy an African American won because I am a minority and it reveals how our far our country has come from its prejudiced past.
If President Obama turns out to be a failure, it is not because of racists trying to undermine him. It is because his agenda is flawed and, in my opinion, he was not prepared to be POTUS...not because he is black, but because he is dreadfully inexperienced!!

Many–perhaps most–of us have made the mistake of taking on a task that is not quite right for us, only to learn more about ourselves before going on to something better for our particular talents.
As much as I disagree with the President on some issues, it would be heartless and sadistic of me to direct any political feelings at a departing secretary.
I wish her all prosperity in the future.

I'm tired of hearing how "historical", as Ms. Rogers puts it, this presidency is. I believe we're now seeing how foolish it was to vote a person into office based on the color of his skin and not on his experience. And don't pretend that's not what happened. Just look at the record number of people who turned out to vote who never voted before. It had nothing to do with putting an experienced man in office and everything to do with making "history" because the opportunity finally presented itself. I don't care what color the president is, so long as they're qualified. Can't wait for '12.

    – Health Care- His own party has not passed it
    – Jobs (said unemployment would never go over 8..well its 10% and counting)
