Job creation bill heads back to Senate

New York ( - Lawmakers' efforts to spur job creation were delayed once again Thursday after the House amended a $15 billion Senate bill before passing it.

The amendments mean the Senate must again approve the four-prong measure, this time with no changes, if President Obama is to sign it into law. The Senate may not take up the legislation until next week.

The bill would exempt employers from Social Security payroll taxes on new hires who were unemployed; fund highway and transit programs through 2010; extend a tax break for business that spend money on capital investments, such as equipment purchases; and expand the use of the Build America Bonds program, which helps states and municipalities fund capital construction projects.

However, the House added two provisions to pay for the infrastructure spending and corporate tax breaks. Its amendments require foreign financial institutions to give the Internal Revenue Service more information to help it catch tax cheats, and delays a tax break for foreign interest payments. The measure passed by a 217-201 vote.

Quite frankly, it's not enough but I hope they pass it because every little bit helps.

For those who think "Obama is trying to bankrupt us"... the Dems don't have to, it was already done by the REPUBLICANS who passed those two tax cuts for the wealthy at the expense of the majority of Americans, AND created the HUGE deficit. It you want to blame someone, blame the REPUBLICANS. The Democrats are trying to spur employment and job growth to help grow the economy to get us out of this mess. Other than fearmongering, what have the Republicans done lately? Nothing.

Can you believe Republicans are even blocking a JOBS bill??

They are no friend to working Americans and should never be trusted to do what is right for the People.

Beware of all the nasty, false, fear-filled ads coming soon from Republicans for the November elections. They know they are in deep trouble for doing NOTHING for the People all year, for being obstructionists and voting NO on everything regardless who it hurt. If a Republicans says it – you better go do a fact check – because their reputation is now being hypocritical liars.

If Republicans won't even help working Americans by passing a great Jobs bill – then do you think they are going to do anything important to help you????? They are your ENEMY and only support CORPORATIONS/BANKS/INSURANCE COMPANIES.

  4. Randolph Carter, I'm no expert, but....

"Here's a great job creation bill:
cut taxes for businesses and individuals immediately. If we have money, we will spend it and hire people!"

... in China. Nice try, though. Have a nice day!

the person who refers to any one backing our president a cool aid drinker is just a racist in disguise. The president is President Obama. If you can't show any respect for the office. Just shut up! I like the 2 amendments added to the bill but when you are unemployed any hold up hurts. This effects Cobra benifits also. Well Daniel it looks like a lot of people forgot about our tax break and now think we are being taxed more. Just what Fox whould have you believe.
