Anti-abortion Democrats targeted in new campaign

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Rep. Marcy Kaptur is one of eight Democrats being targeted by the SBA List."]Washington (CNN) – An anti-abortion rights organization is pledging to spend $500,000 to pressure eight Democrats to stand their ground and oppose any kind of federal funding for abortion in health care reform legislation.

The Susan B. Anthony List announced that it's spending $115,000 on radio ads this week targeting four House Democrats - Reps. Brad Ellsworth of Indiana, John Boccieri of Ohio, Steve Driehaus of Ohio and Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania - as the "kick off" of its campaign.

The SBA List, a national political organization based in the Washington, D.C. area, said in a statement that Reps. Baron Hill of Indiana, Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, Charlie Wilson of Ohio and Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania are the four other Democrats it will seek to exert pressure on.

The eight Democrats voted late last year in favor of an amendment offered by Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Michigan, that would put in place restrictions on federal funding for abortions in the House-passed health care bill.

SBA List said that telephone calls and other grassroots activities will also be part of the campaign.

Joe: "it is a choice to get pregnant"

Really, and when was the last time you chose to get pregnant or not to get pregnant, Joe? When you were raped, did you choose not to get pregnant that time? When your father abused you, did you choose to or not to get pregnant? When your contraception failed? When your husband walked out on you (leaving you with nothing but outstanding bills) and your 4 kids, Joe, and you found out afterward that you were pregnant with no husband, no income, no home, no family, no one – JOE – what did YOU choose?

If you don't play the game, you don't get to make the rules.

You have to think what makes a person believe that their wants trump the life of another. This is so easy, yet stirs such passion on each side.

    Correcting some misconceptions, lies, misinformation:

    1. The Healthcare Bill does not.... repeat....... does not fund abortion.

    2. The 1976, Hyde Amendment, bars Federal money from paying for (funding) abortion. So that's that.

Abortion IS a personal choice women make. I personally, would never, have and abortion, it is against my values. However, I do not believe that I or anyone should deny a women to have control over her body.

God gave each of us, FREE WILL, Freedom of CHOICE. Abortion is between a woman and her God. We are NOT the Judge!

" anti-abortion rights organization ..." That is more truthful than saying "Pro-life." Maybe anti-life / anti-abortion is more like it because for them to oppose a health care bill that will help improve, and in many cases save, the lives of milions of people they are anti life. For them to oppose Roe v. Wade wehich protects the right of privacy between a women and a doctor concerning a life-protecting medical issue (childbirth has always been a cause of death for women, - Read Roe!) they are anti-life. These people need to read more and follow less.

To all of you right-to-life anti-choice people, and MEN who say they don't want their tax dollars paying for irresponsible behavior, ad nauseum.....

I don't want my tax dollars being used by men for their erectile dysfunction problems, especially since most of the men using these drugs don't have ED issues. This is a really good example of irresponsible behavior. Like we need more men walking around with perpetual hard-ons.

I want my tax dollars used to provide birth control to any woman or man who wants it. This includes condoms, birth control pills, and any other method of pregnancy prevention. Including the "day after" drugs.

I would gladly fund abortions for ANY woman who wants one because 1) Birth control is NOT 100% effective, and when it fails the people who MOST OFTEN are left holding the bag are women. NOT men. And 2) Abortions aren't used as a methods of birth control, contrary to popular belief.

We are the only country in the developed world to NOT provide abortion on demand. We do a piss-poor job of educating young men & women about sex education and responsible behavior, which includes birth control.

If you are so anti-Choice that you would let 40,000 REAL PEOPLE a year die instead of suporting real health care reform, you don't deserve to call yourself a Democrat. have the integrity to join the party that shares your insanity. the Democratic party needs to start supporting and electing people who actually support the Democratic Party platform. not everyone agrees with everything in it, but when you are against one of its major core issues, you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

  16. Ferret out the BS

So we have a minority with personal agendas trying to force their beliefs on the majority. You were elected to support the good of the entire nation not throw a monkey wrench into the system because you can. That is the ultimate arrogance. Something to keep in mind that if the majority of Americans did not support freedom of choice it wouldn't be the law of the land. We have also forgotten what was transpiring back in the 70's and before with the backroom abortions.

Tax payer money should NOT be allowed to be spent on abortions!!!

There are already exceptions for abortion due to rape, incest, dangers to the mother.........In no other instances should tax payers money be used for abortions.

Stand your ground........As the MAJORITY of the country agree 100% with you!!!

shame on you Mark Preston and shame on you CNN for reporting propaganda as if it's a fact. Federal funding for abortions is not in the bill. Just because someone says something, especially if they have an agenda, does not make it true and you should know better.

I feel like we have truly reached the epitome of Newspeak (aka Orwell's 1984) when an anti-choice group begins to embrace the name of Susan B. Anthony for its name. I guess they're trying to prove that you can indeed fool some of the people some of the time.

Stand up for abortion rights...and the legacy of Susan B. Anthony. Include choice in healthcare reform!

GOOD!!!!! Go get 'em! Here's the deal folks: Abortion is LEGAL! If you don't want it to be legal try to get the law of the land changed, but stop this weaseling throught the back door which DOESN"T change the law of the land. Any Democrat who is anti-CHOICE is not a Democrat and should be absolutely targeted!

What an amazing amount of labels for the competing sides this debate has produced over the years - anti abortion rights, pro choice, pro life, anti choice, pro family.

I'm going to start using a new one for abortion rights supporters - "pro death." How does that sound?

Jeffer65 wrote: "Taxpayer money should no be used to pay for abortions. Period."

I can't think of any reason for that. If a woman wants or needs an abortion and can't afford one, then it makes sense to me for her to have one.

Now, if we are going to select what medical procedures are worthy of taxpayer money and which are not, we are rationing health care.

If it was up to me, I'd exclude these treatments:
    1. Treatment of a diabetic who is overweight.
    2. Treatment of drivers who were speeding at the time of the accident.
    3. Treatment of the obese for anything.
    4. Treatment of smokers for heart, lung, or circulatory disorders.
    5. Treatment of alcohol related disorders.

These are self-inflicted problems. Why should I pay for them? I don't speed, I'm not fat, I don't drink, and I don't smoke.

The euphemistically called "Susan B. Anthony" is a fascist repuglican organization. No one has the right to tell a woman what she can or cannot do do with her body... period!

Anti-abortionists are misogynists and murderers who glorify going to war to commit murder against women, men (I use that word advisedly) AND children. Hypocrites to the max, anti-abortionists are nothing more than petty tyrants who think they have the right to tell everyone else, especially Women, what to do with our lives and our bodies. Amplifying on their hypocrisy, they do not adobt children and thank Goddess for that!

Our Body, Our Right! Get over it!
