Franken to keynote Netroots Nation convention

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Al Franken will headline Netroots Nation in July."](CNN) – Sen. Al Franken, D-Minnesota, will headline the upcoming Netroots Nation convention, organizers announced Thursday.

Netroots Nation is the most prominent gathering of liberal bloggers each year. The three day convention begins July 22 in Las Vegas and Franken will deliver the keynote address on July 25.

Franken defeated Sen. Norm Coleman by a razor thin margin in 2008, but was not officially sworn in until July 2009 because of a recount.

"Even during the recount, we knew Sen. Franken would be a fighter," Raven Brooks, the executive director of Netroots Nation said in a statement. "Whether he's fighting for health care or education, he's shown that he represents American families and isn't afraid to stand up for strong progressive values."

Former keynote speakers include former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean.

Sen. Franken will always have my support after how he shut Lieberman down.

Man, that is quite an act to follow. Perhaps they should just go ahead and get Barnum and Bailey Circus to go along with the clown!

OMG! CNN is actually mentioning NetRoots Nation? Because, you do understand, don't you, that this is a Left Wing Grassroots organization? I mean, it's not a right wing astroturf group like the Teabaggers, so you might not really want to cover it. Of course, I suppose a small mention is hardly the 24/7 lovefest you had with the teabaggers. You certainly fellated the right plenty during that time! I'm sure they think better of you now and will stop calling you the "Communist News Network". Great job on being fair & balanced! It's definitely fair & balanced when you lovingly cover 600 nuts in Tennessee and ignore thousands at Netroots because you don't want to appear "too liberal". What a messed up world we're living in when the right wing basically has ALL of the media by the short hairs.

Al Franken is everything I thought he'd be – smart, thoughtful, hard working. And listening to him speak is a pleasure. Wish I could be there.

This clown stole the election and he knows it. Hard to believe anyone actually cast a vote for this joker, he has ZERO business being a politician, although he fits in very well with the out of touch Democrats destroying our country.

You can see the lib in his eyes, the only thing greater for a lib like Franken than winning an election is stealing one. Al Gore is surely jealous.

Of course the Looney Left would make him their poster child. Personally I wouldn't elect him dog catcher. What a joke!
