Abramoff, DeLay appear in new DNC ad

A new DNC ad airing in Washington targets Republicans on ethics.

Washington (CNN) - With Democrats like Eric Massa and Charlie Rangel stealing headlines, Republicans want to talk about ethics.

The Democratic National Committee is happy to oblige.

The DNC has launched a new TV ad, airing on cable channels in Washington, D.C., called "GOP: Racked by Scandal." The 30-second spot is a response to an ad launched earlier this week by the Republican National Committee, attacking Democrats over the ethics questions surrounding Massa and Rangel.

The new ad hits back at Republicans, flashing images of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who stepped down in 2005 under a cloud of legal problems.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is presiding over "a caucus racked by scandal," the ad's narrator claims, as viewers are reminded of Louisiana Sen. David Vitter's prostitution scandal and an FBI investigation into Nevada Sen. John Ensign.

"Mitch McConnell and Michael Steele, they have done nothing to hold them accountable," the ad says. "After years of scandal, tell Republicans it's time to clean up their act."

UPDATE: RNC spokesman Doug Heye responded to the new ad.

"At the risk of providing Democrats some advice, the very week the words 'tickle fight' were thrust into the American political lexicon might not be the best time for Democrats to highlight ethics issues," Heye told CNN.

So glad Congress can work together. They've been at each other's throats for 10 years and we're the ones getting screwed.

As a Democrat I say – let's get rid of all the policos on both sides that are corrupt.

Seems to me that most Dems are happy to eject loons like Massa when they're exposed, while so many Republican's want to be conned by the same big picture corruption and incompetence over and over again. There hasn't been a president as bad (or un-democratic) as GWBush in our lifetimes – where were the "Tea Parties" then?

Wouldn't it be nice if more Repblicans actually tried to meet Obama in a reasonable middle ground? I can't think of a president who has bent over backwards more to try to work with the other side while they shouted nonsense about "death panels" and "communism" etc. America is getting too warped a perspective, is too easily suckered and distracted.

No personal scandal or questionable activity prior to holding office can hold a candle to the behavior of Republicans currently in Congress. I don't care if they've got mistresses, boyfriends, or both. What matters is how they've brought our government to a halt in an effort to make Obama's presidency a failure. If you want a scandal, look at the fact that they are voting as a bloc against every measure that Obama supports, whether it would benefit their constituents or not.

It is amazing how the Repugs and their leadership have been crowing about the sins of the Demos. My, what short memories they have. Please do not forget the two Repug Senators who are still serving in the senate who committed one of the worst sins by cheating on their wife or by cheating with someone else wife. Also, the house leader was handing out money near the house floor while it was in session a few years ago.

The difference here is that the GOP praise themselves for being so upright and moral when they are far from it. "he who is with out sin, cast the first stone."

If the person is an incumbent, I am voting against them..regardless of party affiliation. It's time to bring in people who are not career politicians.

I'm amused by the back and forth between Republicans and Democrats.
If you step back and look at the events, culture, tactics, and so on of both parties – its really hard to distinguish them.

I know we all may not want to face up to that but its the truth. And yes, that would would mean that all of these comments are well.... rather pointless.

Well the Democrats may have a few ethics problems as well, but nothing like those of the Repugliban and whats more they did not destroy the economy in 8 years time like the Repugliban, guess the Democrats have a lot more leeway going their way yet before they even get nearly as gross or disgusting as the Repugliban, at least the Democrats have not destroyed the life earnings of nearly halfthe country by running two unfunded wars and giving exorbitant tax breaks to the rich and powerful, when that happens let me know, then we may have a problem, till then the most reprehensible party in Congress is outright Repugliban by a long shot.

To quote Shakespeare, "A plague on both your houses." Both sides of the aisle are populated with the venal and corrupted. The MSM (including this network, Fox, and MSNBC) don't BEGIN to show people how bad it truly is in either party.

The Democrats have no right to say anything and neither do the Republicans – both parties are morally bankrupt – they both trash each other, both parties have flaws, both parties have screw ups. I vote Independent because of both parties!!!

The republicans have more ethics problem from 2001 to 2006 than all the etthics problems of the democrats for last 50 years.

Bush and WMD's is the biggest scandal and lies in history and Republicans won't claim it because they are as guilty as he is. Ensign hasn't gone before the ethics committee yet, Sanford is still Governor, DeLay is still waitng, Craig, the shoe tapper, don't know where he is, Cheney is still free but couldn't get Scooter Libby pardon by Bush, Karl Rove is still out telling lies, Alberto Gonzales can't get a job after he quit over firing of attorneys and that is not settled, John McCain is Keating 5 and didn't go to prison while Charles Keating and his son served time for him, John McCain's son did the same thing his old daddy did, rob a bank and quit one month before it went bellied up.

And if lying was a crime, all the Republicans would be behind bars. They have spent a year lying to the American people. Blocking bills with lies, setting up the Tea Parties to create more lies. Bush won by lying to us for 8 years. Do we want an evil party controlling us, NO WAY
