Clinton tells Israeli leader plan undermines peace process

State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said Clinton told the Israeli leader "the United States considers the announcement a deeply negative signal about Israel's approach to the bilateral relationship" with the United States.
"His action had undermined trust and confidence in the peace process and in America's interests," Crowley said, describing the discussion.
The Israeli announcement came during Vice President Joe Biden's visit this week to Israel. It complicated U.S. efforts to set up so-called proximity talks between the Israelis and Palestinians, the latest attempt to nudge the two sides back toward talking directly.
"The secretary said she could not understand how this happened particularly in light of the United State's strong commitment to Israel's
security and she made it clear the Israeli government needed to demonstrate not just through words but in specific actions that they are committed to this relationship and to the peace process," Crowley said.
Crowley, speaking at his Friday afternoon briefing at the State Department, said the U.S. objected to the Israeli construction announcement "not just in timing but in substance."

Let me tell you, if I had my way, I'd destablize an entire town in a fit of trying to create the illusion of some other distant time (like the late 1980s). Then I'd bug the daylights out of people.

Here's the problem, the Secretary that ordered/allowed the construction is a member of an Israeli ultra right Party. The Party's goals are (to put it simple) to never ever recognize the Palestinian's rights to have a country of their own, to never ever recognize the Palestinian leaderships (even those who are moderate enough to try to achieve their country through political/diplomatic ways) and to impose their ultra-orthodox version of Judaism over all Jews in Israel (some of them goes to the lenght of saying that those who doesn't follow their version of Judaism are not Jews).
Those guys are not for peace with the Palestinians.
So obviously they will do ANYTHING to undermine the peace efforts.
Israel is clearly not interested in attaining peace with the Palestinians. I think America should stop supporting this evil, callous country and hold their feet to the fire over the numerous UN resolutions they have ignored – just as you did with Saddam Hussein. Sometimes friends have to tell friends....

Instead of trying to stop Israel from building the 1600 new residences for Israelis, why not ask them to help rebuild Palestine and create jobs for the Palenstinians in lieu of these 1600 new homes that allegedly they are not suppose to build. When will the Palestinians and others learn that they can get so much more out of Israel by cooperating with them and at the same time getting them to help build the Palestinian nation and its infrastructure? I wish Israel and the Arabs would make peace and then use their immense technological briliance and their huge stash of funds and oil to work for them collectively; then we can see who really rules the world!

Unfortunately, they are not playing the bully, they are playing the sn*t-nosed little brother inciting a fight 'cause they know that their big brother (aka Uncle Sam) will be the one who actually has to fight.
I do not one more US life or US $ to be expended on Ben Gurion's concept of manifest destiny.
Israel needs a smack just like George Bush senior gave them back 20 years ago. We'll see how long they last without U.S. support.
America is supposed to be a neutral party but we abandoned that under Bush. Now the Israelis have grown to big for the britches and need to be reined in. Too many Presidents have been down this peace talk road and this sad drama must come to an end. Obama should put a deadline for solid commitments and cut off any funding to Israel if those deadlines aren't met. Enough is enough.
This is NOT a new policy, people! Since Israel's war of expansion in 1967 the US has voted in favor of MULTIPLE UN resolutions condemning Israel's expansionism and demanding the dismantlement of settlements. The official US policy remained unchanged on that for over forty years now! Don't think this is just an 'Obama' policy! Every single president, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, and Bush Jr. have told Israel explicitely to stop their aggressive behavior. In fact, Bush Sr. was even accused of antisemitism because he wanted to uphold the UN resolutions.
And yet Israel whines and whines when somebody ELSE defies UN resolutions? Hypocrites!
