Edwards' mistress details affair to GQ

(CNN) – John Edwards' mistress tells GQ that she slept with the former Democratic vice presidential nominee only hours after first meeting him in 2006, and that she still loves the father of their child.

"You're so hot," Rielle Hunter tells the magazine she said to the former North Carolina senator when she met him at a New York hotel.

Hunter said Edwards promptly provided her with his hotel room telephone number imploring that she call him immediately. When Hunter called a short time later, Edwards asked that she come to his room. Hunter tells the magazine that she "terrified" and told herself she would not sleep with him.

"I had never experienced anything like what was flowing between us," Hunter said in the interview. "I sat on the other side of the room. I wouldn't go near him. "And he kept saying 'What are you doin' over there? Come over here. I can't even see you. Come closer. I won't bite you."

"I was just-there was sooo much attraction and sooo much… I want to say love, but it wasn't love at that point. You know, it was just this, this magnetic force field like I had never experienced. It terrified me," Hunter said. "Absolutely terrified me. And, um, I eventually walked over to his side of the room. He was pretty relentless. And that's all I'm gonna say on that! Now fade to black!"

But Hunter said Edwards quickly realized the potential ramifications of the tryst, telling her that "Falling in love with you could really f- up my plans for becoming president."

"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans," Hunter said she told Edwards in response. Hunter was soon hired to work as a videographer for Edwards.

Hunter also told the magazine Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, learned of the affair in late December of 2006, days after Edwards announced he was running for president. She said Edwards' wife found a cell phone her husband used only to call Hunter.

She "picked up the phone and called me, because it was the last number dialed," Hunter said. "And I answered the phone and said 'Hey, baby.' And, click."

But Hunter says the two continued their affair, even after Elizabeth Edwards' cancer returned the following March. According to Hunter, the two conceived their daughter that May and Hunter discovered she was pregnant in July.

Edwards took the news well, Hunter said.

"He was always very gracious about it," she said. "And always said that he would support whatever decision I made. But I believe on some level he was hoping I would get an abortion. Because he didn't-he wasn't happy about the timing. Which is understandable. He was married and running for president."

As for the cover up, once the National Enquirer got wind of the story, Hunter says Andrew Young, the former top Edwards aide who recently wrote a tell-all book, volunteered to claim paternity.

"I was on the couch pregnant, and I just felt like I… it was devastating for me, because it went against all of my belief systems. And to go along with this insane plan… but I eventually made the choice to do it," she said.

All three of them are totally disguisting like most politicians, I don't trust any of them. It makes a person not even want to vote...and the arguement used to be if you don't vote don't complain about who gets elected...who cares. None of them are worth it...vote or not you can guarantee scum will be in office. Birds of a feather flock together! That's from the top to the bottom as far as I am concerned.

"Condemning her and Edwards is a cheap way of trying to make yourself feel better for your own moral failures in your sexual behavior."

I say "bravo" to the author.

So are we suppose to feel bad for her? Is she a victim? Maybe she didn't know he was married. She is trying to cash in on her fame that Americans seem to feed on. To think this scumbag ( Edwards) was so close to being the VP and was running for President. Yup, the Democrats have the moral high ground when it comes to corruption and ethics. Well as long as you don't look at anyone in the state of NY or Illinois. Oh and a certain congressman with $90,000 in his freezer in Lousiana. Or, well you get it. They are so much better than those evil Republicans . When are people going to wake up and realize both parties are loaded with scumbags and this " Gotcha" mentality only distracts from one party to the other.

2 Americas. One where Democrats call Republicans scum and corrupt and One where Democrats are as corrupt as the Republicans are.

Who cares? She's nothing more than a hanger on that wants political status, in my opinion. She knew he was married and had children. Any idea why she got pregnant? I can think of a few. Oldest trick in the book. There's a name for women like that/

So much criticism and disgust at the "other woman"..... so little for John Edwards. Why is there so much contempt for the women who makes themselves available, and so little for the men who try to keep them there. Absolutely disgusting that men believe they can have it all – keep their legal status admirable at home with the wife and family and keep a mistress (or 2) on the side. The "homewrecker" is the predatory husband who goes looking beyond the boundries of his homelife, and then justifies his actions because he's staying true to his marital obligations. Hey – most of us don't get everything we want in life! How can you respect any man who is so afraid of sacrifice!

John Edwards' wife reminds me of my wife (her mannerism, not her looks) . I may give in too if any woman ever told me I was hot :).

Haveny any of you critics ever felt that kind of passion? I am not saying that he was right for cheating on his wife, but please...slime ball...no....human....yes.

Our current president experimented with more drugs than any past presidents combined. That doesnt make him a slimeball either.

It is how you come out on the other end that makes a difference.

Have to wonder why a photo shoot of her sitting on a bed?

Unless it's to show what springboarded her to fame and riches. Gag. Her mother must be SO proud.

  15. They're all guilty...

John took vows he broke....who knows how many times, so he's the biggest scumbag. Hunter is a tramp. And Mrs. Edwards enabled her husband to continue his campaign, which when discovered, would have been devastating to the Dem party were he the nominee. "Hot?" More like a pretty-boy, lying creep. At least he's toast. Sex in exchange for the worst reputation imaginable? No thanks!

ah, together at last, the flake and the narcissist. what a co-mingling of shaky DNA that kids gonna be, especially if raised by momma moonbeam herself.
and quit defending elizabeth edwards! what a bullying, controlling, demeaning, mainipulative hag!! nobody deserves the daily verbal abuse she heaped on him, not even this guy.
now can we maybe all have an open and honest discussion about how outmoded and laughably silly this uniquely american idea of "he cheated" is??? *IF* children werent involved, it would none of anyone else's business, what a bunch of car wreck rubber-neckers!
hormones are what caused us to evolve to where we are and 30 years of the womens movement idea that its now time to just say no to evolution is complete crap. and a powerful force they are.
tiger woods, terry sanford, this loon and countless other examples (female too, see anna nichole drug head, the family planning guru from alaska with the knocked up kid and octo-mental mom) show we might better be served by trying to understand ourselves and quit trying to control, suppress and deny what we are as people (some might say highly evolved ones, but I question that sometimes) with drugs, social movements, gossip or religion.

This woman has no moral or integrity. I hope one day the situation is reversed and she finds herself in the other side, that way she will learn how it feels as a wife.
John Edwards has no moral or integrity either. If he wants to be a player have the decency of getting a divorce first. In conclusion they deserve each other.

That lady is so very disrespectful. She could at least give consideration to the children and leave her trashy love life out of their lives. Nobody (especially the children) really cares that she slept with a married man seconds after meeting him.She does need recognition – should receive an award for being "Disgusted Tramp of the Century." The media should not give Queen Tramp any more attention. I don;t usually respond to this kind of garbage with this amount of heat, but she's just despicable.

Why are people surprised at all?

Edwards pays hundreds of dollars for a hair cut. Lives secluded from the people he preaches he will fight for. This is the man that talks about two Americas. One for the poor and one for the rich.

He, of course, claims to be working for the poor when in fact he became rich by taken money from the poor with all the law suits he filed.

Thank Goodness he was not elected. Never made it neither as a VP nor as a presidential candidate.

Now you know the guy. He lies and covers it up. Only this time he was caught.

Asking someone to claim fatherhood for his own child is unbelievable! The man does not have any family values. He just preaches them but do not apply any of those values to himself.

One less fake politician in the wilderness!

The video of the photo shoot was the most uncomfortable thing I've ever seen! They were posing her with children's toys in nothing but a shirt, and in all varying degrees of bedroom wear.... I guess it makes sense symbolically–she's famous for sleeping with someone–but it was still so awkward to watch.

Equal blame for this trainwreck goes to Hunter and Edwards. They are both self-centered, ego maniacs that cannot POSSIBLY love anyone more than they love themselves. And hey, Rielle, please stop proclaiming that you are 'repulsed' by YOUR OWN PHOTOS. I am sure there are MORE PHOTOS in your future....right?? What about the book cover?? Gonna put on a few more articles of clothing for that one?? And do us all a favor and REMOVE Dora the Explorer and the other children's stuffed toys the next time you want to park your half-bared rear end on the bed.....signed, Patiently Waiting for Your Fifteen Minutes to Pass.
