Washington (CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid publicly thanked his Senate colleagues on Monday for their well wishes and prayers during his wife and daughter's hospitalization.
"The tremendous outpouring of support for my wife and daughter from people across Nevada, and the nation, and from my Senate family has deeply touched all of us," Reid said.
Reid's wife and daughter were injured last week in a Washington, D.C. area car accident. Both required hospitalization, and Landra, Reid's wife, was released from the hospital Sunday after sustaining injuries to her neck that required surgery.
"Landra and I have been married for fifty years," Reid said. "She is the strongest most selfless person I know. If anyone can recover, it is she."
The Nevada Democrat repeatedly referred to the Senate as a family.
"We often say the Senate is a family. I'm reminded of it time and time again when both triumph and tragedy unite us. Over the past few days I learned all over again just how close, how genuine, how meaningful that family is."
The next senator to take the floor was Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who offered his own words to the Reid family.
"Let me just say to my good friend from Nevada how good it is to hear such a positive report on Landra's recovery," he said. "We're all grateful that hoepfully she'll be home sometime soon and on her way to a speedy recovery."

Senator Reid has been married for 50 years. Wow! Congrats! I wonder why the family values conservatives like Sanford and Ensign can't keep a marriage together for a fraction of that time. Personally, I'll follow Harry's lead on family values. You can keep your conservative family values...how's that workin' for ya?
Its good they are ok Harry, now finish the job and get the public option.
It's good to hear his wife and daughter will recover. I just wish Harry Reid would resign to be by their side to help them recover.
Perhaps Reid should take up a new cause, in looking at the issue of truck drivers, and rest, and / or, the issue of safe following distances between vehicles on our highways, to prevent the most common urban accident......the rear end collision.
I think that might be more beneficial, than the year spent on a bad health care bill.
I despise him, BUT, I hope his wife and daughter fully recover as they are not part of the problem with Reid.
Wouldn't you like to have his FREE healthcare that he get's, you know, the Healthcare that he wouldn't LET US have in a million years or THEY wouldn't go on ours would they?
If what they are proposing is so great Harry, why not EVERYONE goes on it NOW, including the union hacks who ARE NOT GOING TO get taxed in 8 years either, WATCH.
WHY SHOULD THEY STILL BE EXEMPT?
THIS is what is expected of the Senators, by all of us out here. Thank you, finally. How about nothing but honest empathy and civility for the next year, just to try it out for size?
I wish the very best for Mrs. Reid, I really do. I hope her a speedy recovery and hope that her time with the soon to be ex-Senator Reid will be a culmination of happiness like that of most 50-year marriages. I hope that she awakes him early every morning during his upcoming retirement with a list of honey do's unlike that which no husband has ever been subject to. I hope that she acquires unlimited credit cards on his behalf to go on unlimited frivolous shopping sprees and spend unlimited quantities of his tax dollar funded paychecks. I hope she lives a long and fruitful life with Harry, day in and day out reveling in their tax funded retirement splendor! God Bless you Harry and Family!
