People: Palin, Discovery reach deal for TV show

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Sarah Palin has inked a television deal, People Magazine reports."](CNN) – Sarah Palin is branching out beyond politics, striking a deal with the Discovery Channel for a program spotlighting her home state of Alaska, People Magazine reports.

According to People, a source with the cable network says the former Alaska governor and Discovery have finally struck a deal after weeks of negotiations that involved several networks. A source told CNN earlier this month that Palin had been pitching a show that would be a "Planet Earth-style" documentary about Alaska.

The Palin source also told CNN of the proposed show: "It's not going to be focused on her family, or in her house, or in Wasilla."

Variety reported Tuesday the show is expected to be called "Sarah Palin's Alaska" and the former Republican vice presidential nominee will likely nab $1 million an episode.

Representatives of the Discovery Channel would not confirm the reports to CNN.

I watch the Discovery channel sometimes. How stupid for the channel's executives to pay anyone $1 million dollars an episode just to host a documentary about Alaska. I'd want to see beautiful photography and thoughtful journalism, not listen to the state's failed ex-governor!

What next – pay John McCain $1+ million to host a documentary about Arizona?

Im a Liberal, but I wouldn't watch that even if Obama and the Clinton's were hosting it. 1 mill per episode??? Sheesh! I will watch the news to see how quick it's cancelled....

A pure opportunist with no intention of ever serving anyone but herself. Wouldn't watch this airhead on any channel.

How long until she does some porn? I'd pay a dollar to see that. It would be the first time I'd like to see her open up her mouth.

What a waste of money by the Discovery Channel. Of course, this means the right-wingnuts might actually see some actual science by mistake.

I really hate that title. It's going to further solidify the connection in people's minds between Alaska and Sarah Palin, as if they are interchangeable. While some things about Sarah are representative of the majority of Alaskans, the whole Palin package is not a microcosm of Alaska. That being said, I will likely watch the show because Alaska is beautiful and Discovery/Burnett have a track record of doing right by beautiful and diverse locales.

Well............what do ya know................she's finally out in the open.
She always wanted to be a "Star" now she gets her 15 minutes of fame.

Unfortunately a lot of people will believe that she is sincere. I think she is just in it for herself.

The woman who said she loved wildlife. . .on her dinner plate, is going to have her own Discovery show about Alaska? The state she wants to cover in oil wells? Discovery Channel should be ashamed of themselves!

I think this will likely put her journalism experience to good use. Much as I dislike Ms. Palin's polarising rhetoric on political matters, I have to admit she is a very attractive person who has a delightful and playful smile that is a pleasure to see. The subject itself is innocuous politically and no doubt many will tune in to watch her talk about a place she clearly loves so much. The consequence is that her show will boost tourism in Alaska, and she will bring about positive change to her beloved home state by boosting its local economy.
The country will benefit from her exit from all things political and hopefully her image as a decent woman will be restored.

"Sarah Palin's Alaska... and how I take advantage of the land at every opportunity." (They forgot to add the rest of the title).

Palin and the Discovery Channel don't seem like a good fit. I hope they're able to expose her "rape the land for profit" mentality.

NO! NO! NO! This is just what we DIDN"T want.

Palin is not the spokes person for ALASKA. She was a horrible Governor – now she's to represents our state on a TV show.? "Sarah Palin's Alaska"? Oh God... what an embarrassment.

We were once the coolest place on earth. Now everyone just wants to know if we can see Russia from our houses.

Palin brought a lot of attention to our great state – now everyone thinks we are right wing wacko nut cases with no brains. Great 🙁

I miss the days when the first question everyone asked me was if I lived in an igloo.

Whatever happened to the Alaska Experiment? That was a great show. Anyhow, Bear Grylls' show is probably the only one I would watch on Discovery on a regular basis and I sure as heck am not watching this drama queen's show. At least we'll get her to stop talking politics for a while.

  19. Your unwillingness to change will destroy us all, ever heard of the Dark Ages?

Good going Discovery, you just lost the majority of your demographic.

Discovery channel producers please, please promise your viewers that you will NOT have Sarah Palin complete the narration voice-over for the documentary. I could not tolerate her "nasally" tone of voice over what I anticipate would be a wonderfully shot documentary piece. You all know how important narration is.
