News Release

Richmond Police Investigate Cantor Building Vandalism

March 25, 2010

The Richmond Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism at the Reagan Building, 25 E. Main St., Richmond, Virginia. A first floor window was struck by a bullet at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. The building, which has several tenants including an office used by Congressman Eric Cantor, was unoccupied at the time.

A Richmond Police detective was assigned to the case. A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman.

The Richmond Police Department is sharing information about the incident with appropriate law enforcement agencies.

At this time there are no suspects.

this guy has no shame. He accuses Democrats of "fanning the flames" of violence. Are you serious, Cantor? You need help!

There has to be something psychologically wrong with Republicans these days. If you, out there, believe this nonsense, you also should seek help

It is iinteresting that he talked as if this incident was just like what is happening to the democrats. He didn't have a brick thrown through his window it sounds like an accident to me. I bet his attitude would be alot different if it was his brother that had the gas line cut. I bet his attitude would be alot different if it was bricks flying through his windows or if it was him that was in Pailans Cross hairs.

So, it turns out according to the police report, that the bullet was too spent to even penetrate the blinds behind the window. In other words, nobody fired at Cantor's office.

i take back my previous assertion that the shot was a faked Republican "dirty trick." It was obviously not a faked assault on his office, but rather, a spent bullet that was fired into the air somewhere in Richmond.

But that fact didn't stop Cantor from running to the media with faked outrage about the Democrats "fanning the flames of violence."

That is weird. So by the police report it seems someone aimed a gun upwards and fired then the bullet came down and hit Eric's office? Did I get that right?

Seems like someone was celebrating the the healthcare bill passage and fired a gun towards the air and by coincedence it fell in his office.

Doesn't look like Eric's was a target. Very strange...

Does this sound like a bullet aimed at Cantor to you?

Of course there are no suspects Mr. Cantor is no longer in the public media daily and needed another photo op. Think I'm kidding? Does he look shaken like a person that had a bullet shot in their office window? Instead of making photo ops perhaps move the familiy to higher ground and spend more time praying than inciting fellow republicans to violence.

So it came down at such a steep angle that it didn't have enough force to penetrate the window...kind of like when someone fires randomly up in the air or misses a target from a distance...

Since the republicans have been trying to incite a Teabagger riot against Democrats, it would be poetic justice if it backfired on them.

Doesn't the Bible say something about reaping what you sow? Perhaps republicans should examine their strategy.

So the Democrats saying theyve been "threatened", is a threat in itslef? I dont follow????

This story has an element of political convenience & reeks of Republican trickery. The tea baggers, southern confederate flag-waving right wingers, & other neocons lean toward violence. That violent flame is being fanned by many Republican lawmakers/media figures. Now it appears that violence could backfire against the party, so let's have Cantor come up w/ a convenient story....

Republicans use fear, are warmongers and when the bullets start to fly they claim Democrats are trying to benefit from it while Republicans are the victims.

They accuse Democrats of fanning the flames of violence while they call them "ISOLATED INCIDENTS". When you have 30 or 40 "ISOLATED INCIDENTS" I think one could call them a pattern and more than INCIDENTS.

This sounds really fishy. It's just a little too politically convenient..

Maybe next time you'll think a little more before vomiting out the kind of violent rhetoric that you and your party have been using over the last 8 months. Not everyone who listens to you cares who they hurt.

If there was a bullet fired at this certified nut case he probably fired it himself.

So I guess it's pretty clear this was not directed towards Canter. I mean you know how hard it is firing a gun into the air and having it hit a specific target like that. Sorry can't play victim on this one.
