News Release

Richmond Police Investigate Cantor Building Vandalism

March 25, 2010

The Richmond Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism at the Reagan Building, 25 E. Main St., Richmond, Virginia. A first floor window was struck by a bullet at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. The building, which has several tenants including an office used by Congressman Eric Cantor, was unoccupied at the time.

A Richmond Police detective was assigned to the case. A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman.

The Richmond Police Department is sharing information about the incident with appropriate law enforcement agencies.

At this time there are no suspects.

So from this detective's preliminary investigation and description of the scene, Congressman Cantor's office was not a 'target'. Hmmm. . .with this report, how does Cong. Cantor deduce that his office was actually shot at? Just an observation.

Both sides must come out and speak against the matter what ones political views are violence isn't the way to solve the problem. If you don't like a politician, vote them out....

Sounds like a set up to try to make the Dems look bad for condeming the Republicans for all the violence they and Sarah have spawned. A shot in the air that struck the window on a downward direction? Come on!! How could you judge that. Is there a conservative shooting practice range nearby? Maybe Sarah was warming up for the spring wolf hunt in Alaska.

Really, really. Someone shot a bullet in the air and accidentally hit Cantor's office, and he wants to claim he was targeted somehow.

I hope Mr. Cantor washed hands and cloths real good. It's hard to get rid of those gunshot traces. It seems pretty fishy that he only brought it out after the numerous attacks on democrats, as if to say, look here me too, so it's it's not us attacking those other office. A shot into the air that came down with not enough force to penetrate the blinds? Sounds a lot like a lie don't you think?

Cantor has been so negative on just about every issue for the past year, how can he be believed now? His blaming the Dems is typical of the triumvirate of Boehner/Cantor/Mitchell's fear mongering and disinformation.

Sounds like it was a random bullet that just happened to hit a window in an office building that had many tenants, among them, Cantor.

Several of the rocks and bricks used to vandalize the offices of Democrats had right-wing messages attached to them. The bullet in Richmond had no message.

This was not an attack on Cantor, It's just a random incident he's using to get sympathy and to score political points against Dems. Let the fact-checking continue!

How come there's ALWAYS a 'but' in their hallow comments?

SHOW us the proof that your office was shot at. SHOW us the POLICE REPORT. SHOW us the photos of the bullet hole. Let us HEAR the tapes of your 'threatening phone calls.

You can probably look to some UNION THUG MEMBER to find out who's responsible. Wouldn't be surprised to find out OBAMA was INVOLVED. He is personal friends with a known TERRORIST after all.

So, we finally get the truth. The bullet wasn't even fired at Kantor's office. It was fired into the air, at 1 in the morning, and went through a window coming down.

Not the act of left-wing terrorism that the distinguished liar from Virginia made it out to be.

I am wondering if Congressman Eric Cantor knows who the person actually pulled the trigger. Come on Mr. Congressman, be truthful this time. People will love you the way you are. Don't blame the wrong side if you know might have done it.

"Penetrate" the window blinds? I'm pretty sure a squirt gun can penetrate window blinds, but this bullet didn't? Hunh? And this is what Fox News has been describing all day as "gunman shot up" his office? Yikes.

I have not doubt that Cantor or his allies fired the bullet themselves to try to deflect criticism about how the GOP has actively encouraged anger and violence against Democrats. This man is a domestic terrorist and should be sent to Guantanamo. Of course based on GOP talking points once he is identified as such he should have no access to US courts or attorneys and have no rights to protest his imprisonment.

The ONLY one "fanning the flames", Eric, is YOU. Why don't you take a few years, leave office, and join the military. That way, you'll accomplish several very important life steps:
    1. you'll become a man (in the military sense, not the Hebrew way)
    2. you'll have an air of authority that speaks from experience (NOT education)
    3. you'll do something for others, not yourself
    4. you'll see what TEAMWORK is all about
    5. you'll learn how to react under fire

You really are a sad representation of what's on the Hill, aren't you? All I see is a scared, young goofy kid in ladies glasses trying to keep up with the big kids by making fun of the other kids who are actually doing something for this country.

Cantor makes it sound like someone shot out his window, but the police report tells the true story:

"A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds."

This incident could just be one of Cantor's supporters, mad at passage of the health care reform bill, drunk off their fanny, firing shots into the air near the Reagan Building, hoping to hit a Democrat.

The police should verify whether the congressman has a weapon of like caliber, and if the rifling marks match. He may have fired it himself to shift blame.

Who is it that is inciting violence? I say it is the same ignorant type people who used King in Los Angeles to destroy the town and steal what they could kind of people. Hit a truck driver in the head with a brickbat. And now are blaspheming PALIN IN A MANNER THAT I WOULD NOT EVEN SPEAK TO A BABOON ABOUT. No it is the OBAMA SUPPORTERS who are inciting a civil war.. And it is OBAMA Supporters who have set this country of hatred back 100 years. So good luck for ignorance. Your picking a contest that you can not win. You poor morons think just because you got the man that walks on water (who by the way his feet are wet now) once you can do it again. Not in your lifetimeyou won't if you live that long. This bickering is getting out of hand and the opposition will not take it anymore.

When a bullet is fired in the air and hits a target in a downward direction, establishes that the intent was not shoot a particular target. It could be possible someone got a pre-fired bullet from somewhere and hurled it like a rock at the window.

Bullet struck at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. Cantor informs the Press and the Police on March 25, which is after March 24 when the Democrats complained about the threats.

    HOAX !!!

I certainly hope that this was not a deliberate attack, but a bullet "fired into the air" that then fell through the window glass (and not the window blinds) to land on the floor sounds more indicative of a wild shot or stray bullet than a deliberate shot through the window.

Now, a direct shot through the window with the round embedded–or passing through–a wall across the room: that's a different story.
