MSNBC host denies Senate run

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="'I'm not running against Scott Brown,' Maddow wrote."]

Washington (CNN) - An MSNBC host has taken a full page ad out Friday in The Boston Globe slamming Sen. Scott Brown, R-Massachusetts.

Rachel Maddow accuses the senator of making things up, and smearing her to raise money and, essentially, insulting Massachusetts.

In the ad, Maddow, who lives in Massachusetts, criticizes Brown for a fundraising e-mail that he sent out this week where he suggests she might challenge him in 2012.

"[B]efore I've even settled into my new job, the political machine in Massachusetts is looking for someone to run against me," Brown wrote supporters. "And you're not going to believe who they are supposedly trying to recruit – liberal MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow."

Brown's e-mail then takes a shot at the cable news host. "I just don't think America can afford her liberal policies," he said.

Brown cited an obscure Boston-area blog post from March 5 as the source of the Maddow rumors.

Firing back, Maddow wrote in her ad, which she also posted on her blog that Brown, "made that up."

"I'm not running against Scott Brown," Maddow wrote. "I never said I was running against Scott Brown. The Massachusetts Democratic Party never asked me to run against Scott Brown."

"It's just not true. Honestly. I swear." The cable news host added that Brown "never even tried to find out if it was true."

Instead, Maddow claimed Brown is smearing one of his constituents to "scare donors into giving him more money." Maddow said, to her, that feels like Brown is insulting Massachusetts.

Brown won his seat in a January special election to fill the remaining three years of the late Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy. But he must face voters again, in 2012, to win a full term.

First Cantor LIES about "someone firing a bullet at his campaign headquarters."

Now.... its Scott Brown, being caught in another LIE about his "claim" that Rachel Maddow was going to run against him!

Republicans are losing all credibility with the American people. You can not continue to lie, and be found out and have respect!

GOP strategy: lie, hate, fear and division.

If You have sent money to Senator Scott Brown,

because he claims that I'm going to be running for the Senate in 2012,

For all you Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Fox News junkies: You should watch MSNBC and the Rachel Maddow show, she is extremely intelligent. She is an investigative reporter and gives you the facts. You may learn something rather than listening to those who do not tell the truth and spew hate and fear.

Sarah Palin and Scott Brown would not survive debating Rachel Maddow.

I think the Republicans know that they can't raise much money on their own merits. Therefore, they resort to scare tactics and raising money off of other people. Scott Brown (and I thought he was going to be a different Republican) will use the "Maddow" thing as long as possible, apologize, and then look for another "made up fact" to use as a fundraiser. Come to think of it, I just heard that Glenn Beck was going to run against him!!!!!

You have got to be kidding!! Maddow is 10 times more UNqualified for public office than Palin ever was or is now

Just because you despise Liberals does not mean they are unqualified!

Rachel Maddow is a brilliant, well educated young woman.

Sarah Palin has to write answers on her hand, like a 5th grader! Palin attended 5 colleges before she graduated!

PLEASE, first learn something about the person you hate before posting .......... nonsense!

First of all shame on Brown and shame on CNN. He enters her name to stir up rightt wing support and the CNN uses a tease headline-TV anchor runnning for senate. She hasn't uttered even 1 sugestion that shw might be running for ANY office.
Anyone else who wishes to comment on this story, please don't compare Rachel to sara Palin. Rachel is extremely bright and well informed. Her veiws for the most part are in line with mine, but I couldn,t hold a candle to Ms. Madow when it comes to expressing them. As for the Wasilla Windbag-her candle is wickless-therefore no brightness..........

Why not? If unqualified people like Obama & Franken can get elected, why not another hate-mongering, mean-spirited elitest like Maddow?

  10. Water board Coulter! We want the truth about that Adam's Apple!

To all you tea bagger baggin' on Rachel looking like a man.

Have you clowns ever noticed Annie's Adam's Apple.

    Annie is a tranny.

Not that there is any thing wrong with that.

But I digress, Rachel would stomp the stuffing out of Bare Brown, but she is doing a much greater service on her show, calling out all the redneck liars and exposing the "christian" con games.

    March 26, 2010 04:45 pm at 4:45 pm |

I love Rachel! she's articulate and smart! and doesn't speak bull$*it lies like the republicans do..and she has constantly said she has never even THOUGHT about running against that moron Brown who's obviously reading out of the same ol republican playbook to raise money on fear, lies and smear...what's sad is that dumb republican followers fall for it EVERY TIME! you guys don't even realize you're being USED! idiots!

if she does run, GOOD LUCK MS. MADDOW! and I happen to think you're a beautiful woman too! are they really attacking your looks on here? what a joke!

You people are scarey. What a bunch of negativity! Insulting and nasty! Rachel Maddow is not running for office. She defended herself and has every right to. As if she cares what any of you conservatives think. As if any of the rest of us care either! We will see what America really thinks next election!

Wow, a whole page full of insecure people who aren't smart enough on their own & feel threatened by an extremely intelligent woman who happens to be openly gay just resort to childish name calling and petty gender comments. I believe there's a church for you in Kansas where you can feel great about your stupidity & bigotry.

Hey, Rose Fugits – ah, yes, the "Leave it to Beaver" age of great American prosperity – oh, except for the blacks in the South, the Indians in the West, the Mexicans from below the border – ah, yes, they remember well how grand life was for them back in the "good old days"–

Wait, who's comparing Rachel to Palin? You can't be serious. What do the conservatives have on TV: Limbaugh (didn't go to college), Beck (dropped out of college), Palin (went to every college in the western hemisphere to get a four year degree). Maddow is a Rhodes Scholar and can run circles around any of these thugs. She should run for office.
