Palin opens Tea Party protest in Reid's hometown

Searchlight, Nevada (CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin kicked off a Tea Party rally Saturday in Sen. Harry Reid's hometown, encouraging disgruntled Americans to "take back our country" while attacking what she called the "Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending spree."

"There's no better place to kick off the Tea Party Express than Harry Reid's hometown," Palin said at the rally, dubbed "Showdown in Searchlight," aimed at conjuring up support for the Senate Majority Leader's defeat in November elections.

Activists - some of whom are calling the gathering the largest retirement party in the world - hope it will carry a strong symbolic message.

Reid, the Senate majority leader, is credited with helping push through Congress the controversial health care bill that President Barack Obama signed Tuesday, as well as the so-called "fixes" measure that passed Thursday.

"Washington has broken faith with the people that they are to be serving," Palin told the crowd, which numbered in the thousands.

Palin said the message to government leaders was "loud and clear."

"The big government, the big debt, Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending spree is over. You're fired," she said, prompting cheers from the crowd.

Palin's speech Saturday echoed many of her recent appearances at Tea Party events as she promoted "common sense conservative values" and decried "elites in Washington" and big government spending.

She addressed recent criticism of a post on her Facebook page that called for conservatives not to retreat in the wake of the health care vote, but "reload." Some critics have suggested the post encouraged violent acts against those who voted in favor of the legislation.

"Let's clear the air right now," she said. "We're not inciting violence. Don't get sucked into the lame-stream media lies about Americans standing up for freedom. it's a bunch of bunk that the media is trying to feed you. Don't let them try to divert" attention from the issue.

I will be happy to explain. The GOP feel like they are the only people who can run this country. If you remember they had 8 years of leadership and the country got two wars and bankrupt. Now they are compaining that the Governement is spending too much trying to get out of this economic disaster.

Sara Palin"s appearance at Tea Party rallies tells me those people cannot find a better qualified person to do there dirty work. Republicans better watch out in November. The so called Tea Party/ Sara will be there demise come November. Thanks to Senator MaCaine for getting out Sara Palin from her Alaska hide out and bring her into the main stream politics. She has been a distraction and a loud mouth who could not govern her own state, abandoned her Alaskans and think she is qualified to run our country. Recently she campaigned with McCain in Arizona did not make any sense. Now she is going to Nevada in senator Reid's home town and look as an idiot. That is down out rude and an American to go in some once home town and make a big spectacle. When she says we need to take "our country back" someone please explain what does she mean. To me this country belongs to all of us but she makes it sound like everyone is disgruntled. Her dislike of the president is so evident that she implies he cannot do anything right and down out right rude in ridiculing the democrats. She needs to go back to Alaska because she is not a mediator but a destroyer. If her hopes are high for the 2012 presidential run she better think twice. God Bless out great country.

Looks like the Tea Party is exactly what it is, "the gathering the largest retirement party in the world". Angry old white people. asked "what is meant by "take back our country'? Well it's exactly that, angry old white people who see the people in office no longer look like them or think like them. No one has taken the country except the people. The tea baggers are only about 11% of the people yet they continue to get press just because they are loud. So don't worry, the country is safe and in very good hands.

What it means is that instead of the Democrats ignoring the Constitution and forcing health care upon us, with all the hidden taxes and special programs to Democratic districts to purchase votes for it, and the way the Democrats are running the country into a third world nation, kowtowing to Arab nations ignoring long term allies, dehumanizing those that are using their rights to free speech to express their ideas and opinions, She is talking about removing them from office to take back our country and make it great again.

CLAUDIA – It means exactly what you think it means. The country has gone to the government of ignorance like we knew it would with the likes of Erkel in the Oval Office. We True Americans are, "Madder than hell", and we're not taking it anymore. No more Los Angeles riots without retaliation. No more M.F. or F. in public. We are sick of it. No more being pushed aside. If you liked what this country used to be then get prepared because it's a coming. OBAMA and crew just set this nation back 100 years. This goes for you to ACLU.

Sarah Palin can give a 45 minute speech, lay out her vision for America, and at the end of it every Liberal will look at each othe and ask "what did she just say". Its as if she is speaking in a foreign language. When Sarah says we want to take back our country she is saying, we don't wan't gov't taking over our health care. We don't think Pres. Obama should own General Motors. We don't believe terrorist will stop their attacks if the President tones down his rheteric. We think Israel is a friend we should not disrespect. When Sarah says " take back our country" she is saying we want smaller gov't, less taxes, strong national defense, and individual freedom. I know Liberals will never understand. But We want our country back.

    Good question. I wonder too.
The crowd, mostly out of state people wasn't as big as they had hoped. I heard estimates of expected guests as high as 25,000. From what I saw, 5000 tops.
    Mostly white retired folks.

Soundbite Sarah, can't u just pack your new designer bags & go home? Your family needs u more than we do. We don't need the likes of you in these lower 48 states. On another page, "Common Sense" calls the Tea Baggers "Home Grown Extremists." I agree; if we all keep calling them that, perhaps the talking heads on TV will pick up on that & refer to them as that too. With their tea-baggery, the Repugs will go down in flames this November. On another note, I find it funny that tea & donut holes were served at Harry Reid's hospitality tent! Too funny!

The country is not and was not taken. There were no Aliens with huge Airships, nor were there green men.
One can not take what was not taken; so her logic is flawed. The people of Alaska "took" back the seat of the Governor, because Sarah was too lazy to complete her term.

    Claudia: Obviously you've been living in a fog over the last 13 months! The following is what most Americans want back;

    Free market Capitalism
    General Moters
    Banking Industry
    Healthcare Industry
    Student Loan Program
    Our money
    Our Freedom
    Our Nation

Socialism is running amuk but I'm sure your drunk on Bozo's free kool-aid and don't have a clue. Now go take your nap!

Well Claudia, some believe that the socialization of a free society is the outright sacrifice of our individual freedom by those who don't value the premise of Liberty for All. Also, some believe that freedom is gift bestowed by Man and not by God. So, when they say "take back our country" they are talking about reclaiming our God given right to be free from the tyranny of socialism and idiots who continue to steal our money and produce nothing but carbon dioxide. eg. Nancy Pelosi, Barnie Franks, Harry Reid, John McCain, John Boener (even though he supports the right to tan...).

This is really a matter of who can entertain for the least amount of money. Now that this person is a paid entertainer one can only assume she is reading from the prepared and approved script. Rush would be way too expensive so they have to settle for way down the list. Who in this world would seriously consider anything this crosshair lady says to have any real value or substance. I am consistently surprised that CNN gives her any additional air time at all. Republicans, please have her run for president, what a gift that would be for the Democrats.
