Reid touts NRA tie, reaches out to activists as Tea Partiers rally

Searchlight, Nevada (CNN) - As thousands of Tea Party activists rally in his hometown of Searchlight, Nevada, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is burnishing his Second Amendment credentials.

Reid’s re-election campaign describes National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre as "one of the senator’s supporters." The two are at a $60 million Clark County shooting park which, according to the Reid campaign, wouldn't have opened without the senator’s help.

In a statement to CNN regarding Saturday’s Tea Party rally in his hometown, the Senate’s top Democrat said: "I'm happy so many people came to see my hometown of Searchlight and spend their out-of-state money especially in these tough economic times. Ultimately though this election will be decided by Nevadans, not people from other states who parachute in for one day to have a tea party."

Reid’s camp is trying to welcome the Tea Partiers. The Nevada State Democratic Party and the Reid campaign have set up a hospitality tent not far from the Tea Party rally site. "We are serving Tea and donut holes in recognition that Senator Reid just passed health care reform and we're closing the Medicare donut hole," says Zac Petkanas, deputy communications director of the Reid campaign. He adds it’s staffed, "with real Nevadans from Nevada and folks from Searchlight who support Reid."

The Nevada Democrats hold their big Jefferson Jackson dinner Saturday night where former Vice President Al Gore will be the keynote speaker.

Thank God Harry Reid and fellow Democrats know what civility is and means despite those who wish to do him harm, but then again that's what real men do.

What has Republican ever accomplished? Oh I see one and that is , " Bankrupt America and bring depression".
Republican have only worked for RICH. They have created recession or depression. Read the history of the following Losers and craps:

    1. Depression by Hoover
    2. Disgrace by Nixon.
    3. Killing, lier and another Depression by BUSH the crap !!

Republican do not want any reform because their buddies Goldman Suck, Citi and other gangsters are going to be hurt.
They just want one thing, and that is "WAR".
They have $ Trillions available for WAR, they want OIL. They want " BLOOD for OIL".
Republican will give you a job and health care but in Afghanistan. Are you ready for BLOOD, WAR and killing.
Republican reality I have seen for long.
    Wake up America.

I wonder how many federal taxpayer dollars went into opening up the $60 million Clark County shooting park? Does anyone know?

Reid shouldn't have to worry since the media declared Obamacare such a success.

Ahhh, the power of "faction" James Madison touted our Federal System as a way to balance the aspirations of one faction with those of others this has made for some interesting combinations over the years.

I am a hunter who supports the Second Amendment, but I cannot join the NRA until or unless they cha nge their stance on assault rifles, yet for a host of reasons both Mr Lapierre and I come doown of the side of Harry Reid.

Un-like some (Catholic Bishops for example) I find it perfecty normal to support a Senator who doesn't see things exactly as I do.

Rather than see it as ironic that the NRA would suuport Reid I see it as a sign of our party's diversity.

Good for you Harry. These tea party people and their spokesperson the now rich wacko from wasilla does not speak for most americans.
So keep on giving her your money and see where it gets you all. I am a 67 year old independent with SS and Medicare and I supported health care for all. I have paid more taxes than many and don't resent seeing my country in a better place and you angry folks in desert arent in a better place. Maybe you don't have enough to do but follow her around making her rich...a quitter and a cheater.

These Tea Party and Republicans that are calling people like
Senator Reid, President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and others Marxist, Socialist and "Commies" need to load their RV's in containers and go to China or North Korea or right down the road to Cuba and try to protest like they do it here. I think that if they are ever released from prison, they would come home with a new found understanding of what those things are. They should have a new found understanding for the freedoms they have now to spew their vile hate.

A perfect statement illustrating just how irrelevant the Teabaggers really are. Well said Mr. Reid.

The Tea Party circus has come to town,... send in the clowns,.. enter Sarah Palin,.. get the picture? These Tea baggers are nothing but a travelling vaudevillian troupe of hired mercenaries,... Grass roots my butt. They're a toxic mix, of anarchists, KKK, neo -nazis, malcontents, social freeloaders, Fox disciples,... anybody that gives them the time of day, needs professional help.
