In a dig at Washington punditry and its mindset of instant analysis, Obama joked during a speech Thursday on health care about what would happen if those same opinion makers tried farming.
The day after planting a seed, Obama said, the pundits would look at the ground and see no change.
"Nothing's happened," the president exclaimed in mock horror to pantomime the pundits' reaction. "There's no crop! We're gonna starve!"
The supporting crowd laughed and cheered as a smiling Obama clearly enjoyed the lighter side of celebrating last month's signing of health reform legislation, his biggest victory so far as president.
"It's been a week, folks," Obama said, encouraging everyone - including Washington pundits - to wait until the provisions of health care reform take effect before trying to determine if the public likes it.
Pundits would make lousy farmers is a guess, Obama made a lousy president is a reality.
This was one million times funnier then the Republicans lame attempt about Unicorns and Obama. This was a great way to explain to people that things like healthcare take time to implement and the Republicans have been dishonorable in every aspect about the bill. Obama does a great job !!
Listen people, just like all elections, Independents will decide. Nobody or certain party is thrilled with the economy, unemployment rate, etc. Right now Obama is making strides to try to improve our nation, although some of his decisions are not to my taste. However, I have yet to see the Republicans offer any constructive criticism or beter alternatives. It's probably not going to get any better in the next few months, but one thing is for sure- it is not helping ANYTHING when our elected policymakers of either party constantly try to tear each other down. I'm sick and tired of all the bickering, half-lies and such. I want to see and hear solutions. Obama may not be the best President to date, but the GOP is making him look better than them. Get to the issues!!!!!
If he is going around "touting the benefits of his bill", I am assuming he is praising the changes in flexible spending accounts. My family does not make close to 250K, yet we use our flexible spending funds for such necessary items like aspirin and heartburn medicines. Next year, we will not be able to buy these items with pretax dollars, thus meaning they will cost my family more. How is this a great benefit for the middle class?
This is an interesting comment considering that statistically speaking most farmers in this nation have conservative view points.
BROKEN......you are so full of it. Health care would not have had any effect on "your company" yet, or most likely ever, that would cause a "writedown" whatever the hell you mean by that. To start with the economy tanked in the fall of '07. Now put on your thinking cap and let us know who was running the country into the ground at that time. Come on, you can say it. KING GEORGE. That's right Bushie baby and his two wars and tax cuts to the wealthy started the snowball rolling. At least Obama has slowed it down. Get a grip. Better yet get a life.
I like to joke that Bumbles makes a lousy President. Cept it's true!
And while the President takes his "victory lap", still no new jobs. What happened to jobs being priority #1? Is he hoping will forget that promise?
The real joke is that Obama is president of the United States!!!
No, chump, the difference is, this isn't our first harvest.
We've seen these seeds sewn world wide many times. And what we reap from them is not pretty.
And like many other times in history, the same kind of naive hopes and lofty rhetoric were sewn along with the seeds of socialism as some sort of fertilizer... but it always ends the same... starvation, poverty, despair and God forbid, mass murder.
Unless of course, you think Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot were great farmers...
Mass murder is the crop to be reaped from giving the government too much control. Those who refuse to learn history are doomed to repeat it.
