Obama jokes that pundits would make lousy farmers

Portland, Maine (CNN) - It's a good thing that political pundits aren't farmers, according to President Barack Obama.

In a dig at Washington punditry and its mindset of instant analysis, Obama joked during a speech Thursday on health care about what would happen if those same opinion makers tried farming.

The day after planting a seed, Obama said, the pundits would look at the ground and see no change.

"Nothing's happened," the president exclaimed in mock horror to pantomime the pundits' reaction. "There's no crop! We're gonna starve!"

The supporting crowd laughed and cheered as a smiling Obama clearly enjoyed the lighter side of celebrating last month's signing of health reform legislation, his biggest victory so far as president.

"It's been a week, folks," Obama said, encouraging everyone - including Washington pundits - to wait until the provisions of health care reform take effect before trying to determine if the public likes it.

The closest this country has come to starvation in a long time has been when repubs sowed their seeds 10 years ago and nothing has growed from it yet.

So proud of you, Mr. President. Keep your chin up and stay tough.

PLEASE, give this man the respect you would any other president. He is doing what he thinks best in a very uncertain time.

Well, Obama and his fellow Democrats promised to cover all pre-existing conditions in the bill and it turned out they left out kids.

Rushing to get push something on the American people from the Party of KNOW, as in Washington KNOWS best what is best for America whether we like it or not is not the answer.

The seed Obama planted collects payments up front for 4 years before anyone realizes any supposed 'benefits'. Just like DC and the Democrats to tax us heavily and promise rainbows.

    A little truth about healthcare,

JohnDeer, AT&T and other companies are complaining about health care reform. Let me explain what they are complaining for. Government subsidizes about 28% of health cost for these companies retirees. Now, they take that amount right tax off from their profits. Now, l am not an economist, but this does not make sense. My taxes are going twice to those companies. Once as subsidy, the second less tax on profits. So, anyone can please explain to me is this right what they are doing. l see it as me donating money to some for profit company and they write that amount off from their taxes. As a tax payer l am twice screwed... Please, someone with a degree in business help....

Remember the old saying about it takes one to know one. It takes someone lousy to know someone lousy.

When they looked a few days later they did see something growing, but it was weeds! The weeds of American business' haveing to pay 100's of millions of dollars! Wouldn't it be great if they planted something to at least try and create jobs? America can't live on unemployment forever!

P.S. Most farmers recieve thousands of dollars every year in farm subsidies! The second biggest welfare program in the country, next to welfare itself!

That Obama, he's such a clever fool.

What an insulting dolt. Did he say it with his chin slightly raised and his head cocked to one side, to show his superiority?

Can you imagine being married to him. The press has been and continues to be in his back pocket. When by accident one of them says something that may not tow the company line, he calls them out. I wonder how many times he's done that to Michelle, or maybe she doesn't have the courage to confront him on things she disagrees with?

I for one am a little tired of the way Oboma supporters attack those that question the health care bill. To automatically group them as Republican is foolish when a sizable base of Democrats are among the ones questioning it. To ignor the questions and concerns and resort to making fun of and ridicule is question for even more concern over the tactics of the current administration. Large corporations have spoken out only to be threatened to appear before the administration. Another political party used the same tatics as the current administration in W.W.II. That did not really work out so well for them.

Speaking of pundits, didn't Rush Limbaugh promise to move to Costa Rica if health care reform passed in the US?

Is he still here? I'd really love for him to be a man of his word ...

I am so happy President Obama is "telling it like it is".

But I'm very disappointed that most legislative Democrats are sitting on the sideline and NOT debunking blatant Republican lies.

Wouldn't Obama make a great farmer! In the name of change, he would take the time and effort to plant ragweed in a field before he plants the wheat. A farmer could tell you exactly what is going to happen before anything pops up.
