It clearly was a mistake, but it couldn't come at a worse time for the RNC, which has faced a barrage of criticism from social conservatives for the nightclub expense.
“We love nasty talk as much as you do," a woman is heard on the other end of the sex hotline. The woman, whose voice is on a recorded message, also welcomes callers as “sexy guy” and says this is an opportunity for them to talk to "students, housewives and working girls from all over the country."
A Minnesota resident received the mailer that asked recipients a series of questions and urged them to donate a minimum of $25 to help Republicans return to power in Washington. The resident gave it to his congressman, who in turn delivered to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The DCCC, the campaign arm for House Democrats, provided a copy of the fundraising letter and a recording of the telephone message to CNN. CNN called the number and it is still active.
RNC spokesman Doug Heye acknowledged that this fundraising letter did go out, but said it was a mistake.
"The number in question was a typographical error by a vendor used on this particular mailer – using 1-800 instead of 202," he said. "As you can see from the attachments, this is an isolated incident and will not be repeated in the future."
Must have copied down the wrong speed dial number when sending it to the printer. Dang.
Oops! April fools.
Maybe the Republicans are onto something here. If their policies and positions on the issues won't sell, then perhaps sex will. Too bad if the social conservatives get their panties in a bunch.
Right, most likely someone in the party had been using the number for personal use and forgot to delete it or gave to publishers of the mailer forgetting what it went to. Mistake all right......I'll bet in the future Republicans will be more careful on what numbers they hand out.
Well, there we go again, we are the party of rightousness, God, family values & hookers, hookahs & hooliganism....we know best who to cal after a night @ a strip clubbe, does Obama>? He has kids, he has no idea about how the real work & people NEEDS are met, we have needs & wants why cant we go to a strip joint, smoke a joint & get my joint worked HUH???
That wasn't just any sex hotline, that was karl roves home phone number
"isolated incidents"..........................................March/April fools! or something more cynical happen here!
It sounds like an INSIDE JOB to get rid of STEELE!!! I have been saying this ever since he took the position – They ONLY want you there in the front – so they can CONTROL you from behind the scenes. Since you are not a "good boy" and you have a mind of your own – you are being 'kicked to the curb'!!
Come to Democrat country (but not as head of the DNC!!!!)!!!
Well, the Republicans DO love nasty talk.
Did Vitter (D.C. escort scandal), Craig (airport bathroom) , Foley (sex harassment of teenage boys) , Brown (strip club expenses) and Ensign (parents giving $100K check to keep affair quiet) write the mailer by any chance? Republican do what I say, not as I do hypocrisy at its worst.
The Repubs better watch it...soon they'll be mistaken for Dims.
Are you sure that female voice isn't PALIN?
“sexy guy”??? Man, they sure want that donor money.
"students, housewives and working girls from all over the country." Republicans – in touch with the "REAL" America.
It seems like the repubs have been making a lot of mistakes lately... and by lately I mean for the last 10 years.
Perverts.
Instead of being fed up, I am confused.
Why is the sex-line number given in RNC fundraising literature "clearly" a mistake?
Perhaps they are just appealing to their constituency.
Has any reporter checked to see if the owner of the telephone sex line is a Young Eagle donor? Maybe some of the employees are Young Eagles? Does the sex line offer Young Eagle discounts?
C'mon CNN, do some investigating!!
Wow, this mess is a pre-written SNL script.
This happens a lot more than you think. I worked for a phone company and it happened with one of their advertisements. Regardless of it being the RNC or DNC, I still think its pretty funny!
This is the Holier than thou crowd! People have to be real stupid to believe the Right wing talking Heads, they are laughing all the way to the bank!
This just keeps getting better and better.
Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!
They are only tripped up by the truth which they don't seem to be able to us with the american public!
The hits just keep coming. Republicans sure know how to entertain.
Wide-footing in the mens room, taking the Apalachia trail, unmarried pregnate daughters, strip clubs, and now this.
How's the family values thingy working for you?
And you stupid people wont these people to run the country.
Mr. Steele grabbed the wrong phone number from his Tomberry.
Michael Steele is under attack from within in their effort to oust him, just like we knew would happen. The RNC are hoping he will just resign to save face, rather than fire him, that would just be too obvious. I hope when Steele is gone he learns no to align himself with people who use him for one purpose only. Too loose your respect and integrity all in one shot isn't good Mr Steele, but you did it to yourself.
If this is the GOPs way of becoming 'relevant' or 'hip' it is absolutely hilarious. In just one week they have gone from Chicken Little "the sky is falling" to Beavis and Butthead. I like Beavis and Butthead, but I don't want them running my country.
