Reid takes dig at Palin in reelection launch

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/04/06/art.reid.cnn.jpg caption="Reid took a dig at Sarah Palin as he launched his difficult reelection bid."](CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may not be known for his sense of humor, but the Nevada Democrat put supporters in hysterics Monday as he launched what will likely be his most difficult reelection campaign to date with a dig at Sarah Palin.

"I was going to give a few remarks on the people who were over here a week ago Saturday," Reid told supporters in his hometown of Searchlight, Nevada. "But I couldn't write it all on my hand."

Reid then added "You betcha!" to more laughter.

The comments were a clear reference to Palin, the former Republican vice presidential nominee, who was seen reading notes from her hand to much derision from critics during a speech earlier this year.

Palin kicked off a Tea Party rally late last month in Searchlight, where she encouraged disgruntled voters to "take back our country" and attacked what she called the "Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending spree."

"There's no better place to kick off the Tea Party Express than Harry Reid's hometown," the former Alaska governor said at the rally, dubbed "Showdown in Searchlight," aimed at conjuring up support for the Senate Majority Leader's defeat in November elections.

Former Nevada state Republican Chairwoman Sue Lowden, basketball great Danny Tarkanian, and Nevada Assemblywoman Sharron Angle are all competing for the Republican nomination to take on Reid.

A recent Mason-Dixon poll suggests both Lowden and Tarkanian would beat Reid by double digits. The same poll showed Angle would beat Reid by 2 points.

All 100 people who did show up for Hippy Harry try at comedy chuckled but they know Palin owns Reid.

I hope Senator Reid trounces his opponent, whoever that ends up being!

He has shown he cares about the American people – unlike Caribou Barbie who abandoned her state to pursue money and the limelight.

And during these challenging times, only a fool would vote for a Republican – we all know for a fact that their policies are proven failures, that they care more about corporations than people and that their answer to everything is irresponsible tax cuts to the wealthy who DON'T reinvest in our country!

Make no doubt about it , Sarah Palin's only commitment is to herself $$$$!

Reid has a point when he points that out.

  10. Reid's an idiot!

Who cares what Reid says. He's a complete idiot! Only CNN would showcase Reid in a positive light.

Sarah Palin is awesome, yet continues to take all this crap.

Ever since George Washington's FIRST term, the people of this country have been dissatisfied with their elected leaders. No matter the circumstances, the populace continues to be unhappy with politicians, even when the going gets GOOD. Franklin Roosevelt may not have been a saint, but even after heroic efforts to overcome the depression, there was great opposition toward him from many quarters. Same with Lincoln, Truman, Jefferson and Jackson. If people would band together and use their energy for the greater good, i.e., picking up trash on highways, visiting VA centers and weeding VA cemeteries, volunteering more, than perhaps the country can move forward. Hatred is waste of time and energy.

I still can't believe that Palin makes fun of Obama for reading (intelligent copy) from a teleprompter while she scribbles unintelligible crib notes on the palm of her hand. Our country is going down the tubes–despite having the best president in decades in office. Ignorant people are easily threatened by intelligence & wisdom.

I love Harry Reid. Not only has he been an excellent Senate Majority Leader with patience of Job in dealing with lying, obstructionist Republicans, but he is a good and decent man. A great marriage, family, and a life devoted to public service. We need honest men who take their oath of office to SERVE THE PEOPLE seriously.

How sad not one Republican could dispense with their ugly nasty rhetoric to do one decent and positive thing for the American People this year. They are NO friends of working families and the more we get rid of in November, the faster our country will recover on many fronts.

Thank you Harry for all your hard work and I hope the people of Nevada will reward us with putting you back in the Senate to keeping moving American forward.

It's too bad the media does not do more stories on good men like you than on destructive, dangerous lunatics like Palin, Bachmann, DeMint, and the Fox fools.

    You're an idiot, Reid.

You're getting hammered by each of your potential opponents and you take a shot at Sarah Palin? Is this the best you got??????

    What a wuss.

Good job, Harry. Blast that dolt with lipstick...every deluded [R]'s favorite she-cretin. The 'right' loves stupidity in their new political culture....and she gives it to them in wagon loads. If it's a tight race, she could make the difference, FOR REID!...unless Nevadans are abominably stupid......

this is the ultimate sign of desperation. Taking swipes at Sarah Palin especially something so trivial, shows that this guy doesn't have a clue. Someone needs to ask him if he read that health care bill. At least Sarah Palin (and the majority of Americans) have read it. This guy is gone in November along with everyone else who voted for that bill

I'll bet Harry can't write the 2000 page health bill on his hand either. At least Sarah is organized. Goodbye Harry. Don't let the door fall on you on the way out.
