NARAL and NOW make demands for next justice

(CNN) – NARAL Pro-Choice America, the national abortion rights group, praised Justice John Paul Stevens' record Friday and implored President Obama to nominate a replacement who will also uphold abortion rights.

"Given the current composition of the court, we will assess the eventual nominee's complete record on privacy and other relevant issues in the same way we did during Justice Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation process," NARAL President Nancy Keenan said in a statement.

"One thing is certain: opponents of women's freedom and privacy will use this vacancy on the court as an opportunity to further their attacks on nominees who have taken pro-choice positions," Keenan added. "America's pro-choice majority will fight back."

The National Organization for Women also weighed in on Stevens' retirement. The group called on the president to nominate a woman to the high court, which counts Justice Sotomayor and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg among its nine members.

"NOW is dedicated to achieving gender parity on the Supreme Court, and we call on President Obama to nominate a woman to fill this seat," NOW President Terry O'Neill said in a statement. "The Supreme Court is out of balance, with women making up a mere 22 percent of the bench. That's simply not enough."

To destroy the fruit of a woman's womb is to say, forget it God, I don't want the nuisance of your gift of life! I want to continue my narcissistic life-style. 🙁

More dehumanization from the radical left and the obfuscating Obama!

Spare us NARAL and NOW. Justices of the Court aren't there to push an ideology. Go campaign for politicians who actually write the legislation, not the Justices who are to determine if the legislation is Constitutional.

where are you getting your facts? 50% of women who get an abortion do not die....

I agree with Bill Clinton "Keep abortion SAFE, LEGAL, and RARE"

With all of the people already on unemployment, we don't need to add more mouths to feed...

I played by all the rules, responsible with birth control, college degree, good job, but I see friends who had kids they shouldn't have had, getting thousands of dollars in tax money and welfare...

thats what you want for a child? to be brought up dirt poor with a child for a parent?

If you are against abortion, so be it, that is your personal choice and morals. However there are people out there who believe differently. Is this not the point of being allowed to choose? You pro-life militants need to just go away. There is nothing wrong with a woman being able to choose an abortion. After all, America is supposed to be a free country right? I dont agree with late term abortions, but if a young 15 year old girl finds out she is pregnant and chooses an abortion in the first 6-12 weeks then so be it. I'd rather she has a chance at her own life before bringing another one into this already messed up enough planet. And for those of you who quote the bible, keep YOUR religion to YOURSELF. No one but bible thumping androids want to hear it. Come up with a useful argument backed up by science and maybe we will listen to you.

Sorry but have you heard of the First Amendment? That gives me the right to not have to keep my "religion" to myself.

Anyone seeking an abortion should be required to watch an ultrasound of a developing baby followed by an ultrasound of an abortion being performed. Before going to Medical School I was one of those people demanding "women's reproductive rights". However, after witnessing and participating in an abortion I could no longer justify this procedure. Granted, the "fetus" is completely dependent on the mother for its life, but so are all children from newly born to young adulthood: parents provide food, shelter, medical coverage, toys, transportation, education and the list goes on and on ... However, this does not give the parents the right to kill a todler nor a teenager just because they are an inconvenience. WOMEN REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS are nothing more than a delusion. Besides, except for rape, no woman can claim that she had no choice. Even in the case of rape there are other options such as adoption. I challenge NARAL to use their moneys to prevent, istead of ending pregnancies. Oh, I forget, if we went about preventing unwanted pregnancies, then NARAL would have no money and nothing else better to do ....
