Obama brushes off Palin on nuclear deal

(CNN) - President Obama on Friday brushed off criticism from Sarah Palin that his agreement with Russia to restrict the use of nuclear weapons amounts to a dangerous sign of weakness.

"I really have no response," the president said tersely in an interview on ABC's Good Morning America. "Because last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues."

Speaking on Fox News earlier this week, Palin said the recently negotiated treaty with Russia - seeking a reduction in the number of nuclear weapons held by the two countries - is an "unbelievable" move and that "no administration in America's history I think would ever have considered such a step."

"It's kinda like getting out in the playground, a bunch of kids ready to fight, and one of the kids saying 'go ahead, punch me in the face, I am not going to retaliate, go ahead and do what you want to with me,'" Palin said.

Obama said Friday: "I would say to them is that if the secretary of defense and the chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff are comfortable with it, I'm probably going to take my advice from them and not from Sarah Palin."

The treaty requires approval from two-thirds of the Senate to go into effect. Some of the chamber's Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, have indicated that they are not ready to support the deal.

"The Senate will assess whether or not the agreement is verifiable, whether it reduces our nation's ability to defend itself and our allies from the threat of nuclear armed missiles, and whether or not this administration is committed to preserving our own nuclear triad," McConnell said in a statement.

Why would anyone who has half a brain listen to Sarah Palin? Why? Why? Why? She has zero creditbility and the majority of citizens in this country agree she is not qualififed to run a state much less a country.
The bigger question is why does the media keep covering her when they know she is just a pretty mouth piece for the right to keep spewing B.S. I guess the hard core right wing freaks like it and they pay most of the medias salaries since the private sector conservatives have bought and control what we get fed. I gotta say thank god for MSNBC. It's all people with any common sense have got left to go hear the truth.

First off, Obama is not American-born; he is Kenyan-born and not eligible to be president. He is using his Kenyan/muslim core beliefs to try to bring the US down to the international level of Kenya.

Again Sarah Palin shows her ignorance of American political history and yet CNN continues to print every word she says and every event she attends...dinner out in NOLA, come on! Now, think Sarah, who was it again who engaged the Russians in the first discussions about nuclear arms limitations? Keep thinking, not a hard question. Got it yet? Now? How about now?

When did CNN start leaning right? As an Independent it is easy to see that your tone and nature of the content in what gets reported clearly is kinder to the right then the left. When did you become biased?

Problem is where are we going to find a leader with this 24 hour shark feed. OH..I know..Joe Scarsborough Hah!

seems like the president and other Democrats are starting to get tired of Palin's act with her shooting off her mouth with little substance to back it up. They are starting to fire back at her and I say GOOD! Of course then she'll whine that the "liberal-left wing media" is picking on her again.

If Presidential Candidate McCain had not selected Sarah Palin as his running candidate she would never have been in the national limelight.. It has gone to her head so much that she now thinks she is an expert in everything that has to do with our nation. Come on Sarah, you didnt help the Republican Party then and you are not helping it now....

Yes Sarah, thank you for bringing your unfathomable political analysis powers to bear on this issue. Reducing nuclear deterrent policy to an analogy of school yard bullying is brilliant! If only such tropes could rule the fate of the nation! Too bad that too few people wanted a person of your intellectual capacity in the White House.

Really dim bulb barbie? Really???!!! The United States has been part of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty since its inception in 1970. One of their three stated goals is the disarmament of existing stockpiles.

What a moron. It's shocking and disturbing that anyone believes she is intelligent enough to be anything other than a spokesmodel for war. Even then her days are numbered as she's starting to look mighty haggard and matronly in recent weeks, and it's no secret the rethuglicans like their women to look like the those at the lesbian bondage clubs they frequent.

Keep smackin' her down President Obama! Real Americans have your back.

Good for you Mr. President. Unfortunately for Sarah, no one else was asked this question before so that she could speak after them and so she has no CLUE what to say. She is so out of touch on issues. She is clueless on issues – unless of course she hears someone else speaks and the copy cat them. Her knowledge on issues is equivalent to a Kindergarten student, and I am sure a kindergarten student is much more knowledgeable.
She can only speak after she hears someone's views on an issue and she sticks to saying just that. No new knowledge.

Let her stay out there and run from state to state on bus. That is what is good on, stirring up her base, and making trouble and selling her books. I wonder who would buy her books – the GOP I think. This woman is clueless!!!

Who in their right mind would take anything the bird brain from Alaska has to say about anything. She steams along like Rush Limbaugh, gushing disparaging remarks and providing no solutions other than 'Let's have a tea party'!

The only way she's every likely to be elected President is if she was the only one running, and she might have a hard time pulling that off what with write in votes for Mickey Mouse or Dilbert.

What a terrible analogy by Palin. It's nothing like that. Since Russia is signing off on the deal to similar effect as well, wouldn't they be saying the same thing in her analogy? How can there even be a fight if both sides are saying 'do what you want to do with me?'

To correct her analogy, it's more like two gangs basically saying, "We're too big. How about we limit the number of gang members?"

Sarah Palin is so incredibly ignorant on so many fronts. This is pretty much the same treaty process begun by Ronald Reagan, supported by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense (appointed by Bush), and other leading republicans in the senate. What is wrong with this woman, aside from being a money-hungry, ignorant, publicity seeking wing-nut with a deluded sense of her own importance. The sane people of our country and the world applaud the president's and Russia's effort to rein in the proliferation and production of nuclear arms. The US Senate will decide the fate of this treaty, and that will certainly take time, research and deliberation. Cool your jets Sarah...and close your yap!

Palin isn't an expert on nuclear issues? Well, neither is Obama. He was a community organizer in south Chicago and persuaded deceased folks to vote. I like her response to his weakening of America.

President Obama is following President Reagan's stance on nuclear weapons.

And he is right, Palin is no expert on nuclear weapons. Hey, she couldn't even complete her full term as Governor of Alaska.

Ms. Palin's tirade is ridiculous. 'No administration in America's history I think would ever have considered such a step'? This is exactly the kind of treaty that President Reagan envisioned. Not only does she lack expertise on nuclear issues, she also seems lacking in her knowledge of recent presidential history. Perhaps she should consult with George Schultz about it. I can just see the SNL people working on a new script for Tina. Ms. Palin, every time you speak you look more like a spoiled brat who lost a game in the playground.
