Obama brushes off Palin on nuclear deal

(CNN) - President Obama on Friday brushed off criticism from Sarah Palin that his agreement with Russia to restrict the use of nuclear weapons amounts to a dangerous sign of weakness.

"I really have no response," the president said tersely in an interview on ABC's Good Morning America. "Because last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues."

Speaking on Fox News earlier this week, Palin said the recently negotiated treaty with Russia - seeking a reduction in the number of nuclear weapons held by the two countries - is an "unbelievable" move and that "no administration in America's history I think would ever have considered such a step."

"It's kinda like getting out in the playground, a bunch of kids ready to fight, and one of the kids saying 'go ahead, punch me in the face, I am not going to retaliate, go ahead and do what you want to with me,'" Palin said.

Obama said Friday: "I would say to them is that if the secretary of defense and the chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff are comfortable with it, I'm probably going to take my advice from them and not from Sarah Palin."

The treaty requires approval from two-thirds of the Senate to go into effect. Some of the chamber's Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, have indicated that they are not ready to support the deal.

"The Senate will assess whether or not the agreement is verifiable, whether it reduces our nation's ability to defend itself and our allies from the threat of nuclear armed missiles, and whether or not this administration is committed to preserving our own nuclear triad," McConnell said in a statement.

Didn't the great hero of the Republican Party, Ronald Reagan, say on several occasions that one of his greatest dreams was a world without nuclear weapons? Republicans are the kings and queens of selective amnesia.

It is really sad that this president can't remain above the fray. A dignified President would simply say that she is entitled to her opinion and leave it at that.

Ms. Palin's right – by not retaliating, that hypothetical kid is denying all the other hypothetical kids on the playground the chance to participate in justified violence! What a wussy! Where does this ridiculous "turn the other cheek" mentality come from? Certainly any good Christian knows the only path to peace is the threat of mutual destruction.

Palin once again shows the dumbfounding lack of experience and education that is her trademark. If she would do a little checking, she would find that many administrations in the past have negotiated with the Russians to reduce nuclear arms. One of the sources of great pride for President Nixon, and staunch conservative and Republican, was SALT. Reagan, another conservative and Republican also negotiated arms reductions. Google it Sarah. You'll be amazed at what you can find with a little reading. Oh yeah...I forgot....you don't.....

The silliness of the neo conservative movement never ceases to amaze me. Old guard conservatives who have passed on must be spinning in their graves like roto tillers.

Someone help me but I know its been a long time but didn't Richard Nixon begin the S.T.A.R.T. treaties with the Soviet Union and didn't Ronald Reagan also negotiate reductions in nuclear arms? What is Palin talking about, does this woman have a clue?

Sarah Palin proved, by her comments and infantile analogy, that she is no expert on nuke issues. George Stephanopolis of ABC allowed himself to stoop to Sarah Palin's excremental level by bringing her comments into the interview with the President. It just confirms that Stephanopolis and 95% of the media DISRESPECT the PRESIDENT and for that, they are guilty of treason.

This is just another example of Palin's reckless ignorance. For someone who could not name, in a nationally televised interview, what periodicals she reads or, more importantly, communicate what the intent of the Bush Doctrine was, she wants people to place value in her comments regarding nuclear proliferation?? Then, on the other hand, maybe we should. She CAN see Russia from her house. Incredible...

Good job Obama, pay this woman no attention. Obama's stance on nuclear weapons is the exact same as Regans was. Regan wanted to cut Nuclear weapons by 1/3 and Obama just did that. 75% of the country know more about the issues than Palin, she is a joke!

a simplistic analogy (which is not AT ALL analogous) from a simpleton! she does have a use though, i'll admit, it's just not
in leading (or influencing) the greatest country on earth.

What does Sarah Palin know about nuclear proliferation? Oh I forgot, She can see them from the back porch...

(Gently patting on her back) Do me a favor Sarah, let the intelligent people handle this one. Ok. Now you take this assault rifle and go kill some wildlife. That's a good girl.

Last time I checked Sarah, a world with less nuclear weapons is a good thing. We still have enough after this treaty to blow the world up a few times over. We also still spend $700 Billion on our defense budget where the Chinese CUT their defense budget from $75B to $70B and the Russions spend only $40B.

Obama is right about Palin not being an expert on nuclear issues. Of course, that statement could be used on just about anything Palin says.

Least Sarah forget, let me quote Ronald Reagan:

"[F]or the eight years I was president. I never let my dream of a nuclear-free world fade from my mind." - Ronald Reagan

It was Reagan himself who signed the SALT I treaty. SALT II is an extension of SALT I.

What? He's got time to wonder what Sara's doing? He maybe worried what she's doing because she may be leading the charge to replace him

It appears that Sarah Palin will spend the year 2010 making her nationwide tour like a band that has no talent.

She walked away from her state as Governor for the limelight, which she enjoys so much, and disregarded her duties.

Now she stands on a soap box, with nothing to offer but more division and fear tacticts. Wonder how much she's getting from the RNC to be their annual Pit Bull.

How and why anybody who can truly think for themselves would even consider anything she says having any merit is beyond me.

Sarah, you offer nothing to me as an American citizen. No ideas, no clue, no brains.

Maybe a role as the scarecrow in a modernized Wizard of Oz would be more appropriate. Unfortunately, the Wizard this time doesn't have a brain for her.

Go back to your old stomping grounds Sarah, where the Meth flows free, and the trailers are all lined up. We don't need trailer trash trying to lead the American people, when we have a President that has enough braiins for 2, and is working for the country, not against it, trying to divide it.

Maybe George W. Bush Jr. needs a personal assistant? You and him are a perfect match for each other.

Leave us alone Sarah, unless you get hit on the head and come around to what most people would consider "reasonable thought"

Since when has Sarah Palin acquired any expertise on nuclear arms issues? She can't even claim anymore that Mr. Obama has no real administrative experience, since he is still President, while she quit her job as less than half governor. Do we want a nutcase like Sarah the failing Palin give advice on nuclear defense? Do we want her bag of tea nutters run the country? Do we want a screeching banshee moosehunter to represent America? Oh no!

Sarah Palin has got to be the dumbest person on the face of the earth. Why can't she just go back to the obscurity from which she came? Curse you John McCain for bringing this idiot to light.

"It's kinda like getting out in the playground, a bunch of kids ready to fight, and one of the kids saying 'go ahead, punch me in the face, I am not going to retaliate, go ahead and do what you want to with me,'" Palin said.

If Caribou Barbie knew anything about history, she would understand that exactly this approach was what Ghandi used to force the dominant superpower at the time (Britain) out of India.

More to the point – we aren't unitalerally disarming, and will still have enough nuke munitions to bounce the rubble. How much is 'enough'? And how is this asking to be punched? Non-sequitor after non-sequitor. IDIOT!

But expecting an ignorant hillbilly to understand history, or anything, really, is a lot to ask. Clearly.

Thanks God for Obama's victory, shielding the White House from this clown-dunce.

I do wish Obama would ignore El Stoopido. Responding lends waaay too much credibility.

I wish Sarah would learn something new. She is getting so old. The nukes on ONE US Sub could waste the planet three or four times. How many nukes do we need. It would be so nice to see humanity start spending money on things that would help people. Lets pay for health care, the unemployed, the deficit, and so many other items with the money used to build the new aircraft carrier Gerald Ford. Wow! that would be billions. If we cut spending on weapons used to fight the Russians just think what we could do with the money. Palin is an nuts and has no idea what she is talking about.

Does Sarah know what she's saying? correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we already had a nuclear arms reduction pact with the Soviet Union under reagan? Didn't we disarm interconinental ballistics in the 80's in an effort to difuse the cold war?
