Gingrich says Palin 'tremendously important'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/04/09/art.gingrich.srlc2.cnn.jpg caption="Gingrich is touting Sarah Palin's role in the Republican Party."](CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, still considered among the most influential members of the Republican Party, is touting Sarah Palin's impact on the GOP and her future in the party.

"Sarah Palin is tremendously important right now, I mean for maybe 40 percent of the country, she personifies courage, clarity," Gingrich told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Both Gingrich and Palin were among the event's featured speakers.

"She's attractive, she's articulate, she has energy," Gingrich continued in the interview set to air Sunday on CNN's State of The Union. "Watch the size of her crowds…And I think whether that translates into something bigger later or whether she's just a very significant person for the rest of her life, she is a real player, nobody should underestimate her."

Gingrich also said Palin's prominence in the Republican Party will continue, regardless of whether she decides to mount a presidential bid in 2012.

"I think she has the potential to fill a niche for a very long time, particularly in an age of cable television and talk radio when you can build your particular market and your audience, and they can love you and come to your meetings and do things with you, and she's done, I think the last couple months she's been very impressive," he said.

But, should Palin decide to launch a presidential campaign, would she be a formidable opponent against President Obama?

"Well, if my choice was Sarah Palin or Barack Obama, I'd rather have Sarah Palin," said Gingrich.

We Canadians and I'm sure the rest of the world are seriously concerned about you Americans and your fascination with this very ordinary VERY ditzy woman. She can NEVER be president because you guys would be seen as a very weak country. The thing I hate about her most is she doesn"t respect wildlife so that's why she attracts the gun touting, bible thumpers because they need someone to hide behind because they are cowards. She has to appeal to them because she wouldn't get any votes otherwise. Ha Ha.....the whole thing would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad! P.S. Is it just me or does Hilary Clinton look very old and grumpy lately? Must be hormonal.

Palin is dumb as a snake. The world would immediately become a much more dangerous place with her as anything but a cute skirt. Newt is pandering to her to get her endorsement when he elects to run for President in 2012. With him leaving his wife when she was being treated for cancer in the hospital, I think l'd vote for Tiger first.

Hmmm, important quality number one "she's attractive" .. well then by all means she is presidential material, after all it's looks that matter most when it comes to running a country. Right????

If you take out the personality and just use 100% facts then you will know it is a fact that Sarah Palin is a liar. She has told more lies in the past two years then any other politician. These are the facts that cannot be changed and lying does not make you a superstar politician. Her expeirences have been filled with lies, her speeches are filled with lies, her Governorship was filled with lies and she was found guilty of abuse of power. If you want your superstar leader to be a liar then you have the biggest liar in Sarah Palin. 299 million know she is a liar and not worthy of any political position.

Like most other Alaskans, I have no respect for "Bailin' Palin". She couldn't leave the state fast enough when she saw dollar signs elsewhere. She also quit her previous job on Alaska's energy commission, the plum appt. given to her by the former gov. Was it too much work, Sarah, or was it just over your head? It's amusing that she now touts her expertise in energy!

She couldn't get elected in Alaska again because we've seen her in action. The staff ran the state. She didn't. She and her husband were cited for abuse of power by the state legislature. She's vindictive and back biting. Ask anyone who helped her get to the mayor's office or governor's office.

I'd also say on paper Palin makes more sense than Obama for Pres. I don't want either one.

Come on seriously Newt. Sarah Palin is not as important as the party is making her out to be. Newt must be smoking something, or someone put something in his drink. Mrs.Palin is no more than someone that has extended her 15 minutes of fame into a reality TV career. "Articulate", come on Newt I am from your home state and if you really think I would vote for someone like Sarah Palin to lead this country and speak for my party, I would do what Rush suggested and leave this country, because we would be really headed for hell in a hand basket with the ideas of Mrs. Palin and those that decide to follow her.

Yes, she is important. I hope she stays in the race because the Democrats will have a better chance of winning. Maybe Newt, Palin, Cheney, Rush and Coulter could go somewhere and start their own country. That would be right up their alley.

Truth – Why is it that the camera NEVER pans out so we can see the crowd and judge for ourselves???

You also stated "Two campaign stops for McCain were sold-out..." Why is it that every event PA'IN is involved with you needed to PAY for tickets?? I saw President Obama during his campaign over 3 times and NEVER paid????? That's the difference between GRASSROOTS and TRICKLING DOWN!!! The only thing wrong with that is that it NEVER reaches the bottom!!!

Vice President Joe Biden's description of Barack Obama before the '08 election...

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man."

During the '08 election Palin had more executive experience than Obama had...because he had none. Instead of continuing to bash her, I challenge all of you to really listen to what she's been saying lately and put partisan politics aside and perhaps you might learn something and realize why it is that more and more Americans are becoming supporters of Sarah Palin every day!

    She's "attractive"?

What is this, America's Next Top Model?

    She's "articulate"?

Explain how and give specific examples.

    She's "energetic"?

Really? She wasn't energetic enough to finish her term. She's on tour now, like a rock star, and too busy facebooking to do legitimate government work. No one wants a quitter in politics and Sarah Palin is a intellectually uninterested Bible thumping Jesus freak, even more so than Bush, which is a frightening thought.

"How's that 'hopey-changey stuff working out for ya?'"

    Just fine, thanks for asking.

Most of the time Newt has no idea what he is talking about. Promoting this stupid woman for any responsible position is totally irrisponsible if not reckless.

I don't see why I should view Sarah "not exactly an expert" Palin or Newt Gingrich are terrificly important.

Unless we are looking for someone to quit. I understand that Sarah is good at that.

But wait, if the 2012 ticket is Gringrich/Palin... then what will the plumber do? Maybe he can do what Hillary is doing now. She is something about the state, so she isn't on the federal level. Yes, yesum and yesaha.... Gringrich/Palin and the Plumber for Secretary of State. Got my vote.

One reason we will never see Palin as a candidate for president – her republican opponents will attack her strength as a leader and the rest of the independents, progressives, and democrats will point out that she walked off her job as governor when things got tough! Oh by the way, what happened to that part that she needed to focus on her family when she quit as governor!!!!

i laugh because of the clip about obama not knowing about nuclear weapons, but she, just like bush can't even pronounce the word!! hahaha

funny thing is obama just got a very important disarmament treaty done and it should help to have russia and china add sanctions against iran. we've captured/killed quite a few terrorists during obama's 1st term. he just doesn't pound his chest like bush and the repubs.

palin is not all that smart, 6 years for a communications degree?? and still sounds like an idiot when saying big words.

"The American people are finding out about the lies that were told about this woman. Do you want to know how the American people are finding out about lies told by the corrupt MSM so they could put that Liar In Chief in the WH? They are finding out by people like me, that spread the truth one day at a time and in turn tell others to spread the truth. You catch the drift. America is waking up."

And just what lies were spread? That she doesn't know what she's talking about? That she's just in it for the money? That she spreads hate and lies to incite people?
And by the way, why were you sleeping while the RepubliNAZIs destroyed our economy. All the deregulation starting with Regan just about did us in. So now you want the RepubliNAZIs back to finish us off?
